Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 204: Chapter 187: Purity

Inside the airplane.

Lu Li was pondering how to win money in Atlantic City.

His company was about to spend a large sum, and though he had enough,

he was also planning to buy a private jet during this trip to the Ugly Country.

He was thinking about whether he could earn the money for the jet in Atlantic City.

Lost in thought, Lu Li casually asked Shen Xia, ”Do you like gambling?”

”Not really.” Shen Xia tilted her head slightly, ”I heard there are many fun places in Atlantic City. I want to check them out and make some memories. Before, when I came to the Ugly Country, I either went to Boston or attended research at the California Institute of Technology, and didn’t have time to visit around New York. This time, I finally have a chance, so I want to see it.”

Atlantic City is very close to New York, only about 160 kilometers away.

Lu Li’s attention wasn’t on Atlantic City and New York.

He asked curiously, ”Shen Xia, there’s something I’m quite curious about.”

Shen Xia turned to look at him, ”What is it? Go ahead and say it.”

Lu Li stared at her delicate face, ”How did you decide to become a physicist? Isn’t it a subject that girls generally aren’t very interested in?”

When talking about this, Shen Xia smiled, ”This might have something to do with my family background. My dad is a theoretical physicist, and my mom is an experimental physicist. Under their influence, I developed an interest in physics from a young age and wanted to explore the world.”

Even though Lu Li studied liberal arts, he still knew the difference between theoretical and experimental physicists.

Physicists are generally divided into theoretical and experimental types.

Of course, in physics, theory and experiment are both essential components, so sometimes it’s hard to categorize them.

But if a physicist leans more towards theory, they’re called a theoretical physicist, like Einstein.

If they focus more on experiments, they’re referred to as experimental physicists, like Faraday.

If one must make an analogy between the two types of physicists,

theoretical physicists are like high priests studying the ways of the Tao.

While experimental physicists are akin to sorcerers studying spells.

After some conversation, Lu Li found himself running out of topics and didn’t know how to continue.

Shen Xia seemed to notice this too, and she proactively brought up a topic, ”Many people think studying physics is a very stern affair, but there are actually many interesting things within physics.”

Lu Li said, ”Like what?”

Shen Xia said, ”Like Newton. There was a time when he invited friends over for dinner, but he was so absorbed in his lab work that he didn’t come out despite repeated urging. When his friends finished eating a chicken and left a pile of bones on the plate, Newton finally remembered. Yet, when he saw the bones, he said with sudden realization, ’I thought I hadn’t eaten, but apparently, I already have.’”

Pfft!

Lu Li couldn’t help but laugh, ”Newton was quite interesting. Any other interesting stories?”

Shen Xia blinked, ”Yes, like Einstein.”

Lu Li asked, ”Tell me about it.”

Shen Xia earnestly recounted the story, ”As a child, Einstein’s teacher asked the students to create crafts. Everyone did very well, but Einstein only made an ugly little stool. The teacher and students mocked him, saying is there an uglier stool than this in the world? Einstein said there was, and he indeed brought out two even uglier ones.”

Both stories were quite amusing.

Lu Li couldn’t help but laugh at them.

Maybe because Shen Xia told two jokes.

Lu Li went from having nothing much to talk about to chatting warmly with her.

Lu Li had to admit that Shen Xia broke his stereotypical impression of physicists being ”rigid.”

This woman spoke interestingly and was a comfortable person to be around.

After chatting for a while, the airplane finally took off.

The noise was a bit loud during the flight.

The two of them paused their conversation for a bit.

Once the plane leveled, they resumed chatting.

Lu Li initiated a topic, ”Hey, you seem to be in your late twenties. Haven’t you found a boyfriend yet?”

Shen Xia brushed her bangs, jokingly saying, ”Men only slow down my sword-drawing speed. For the sake of science, I’ve decided to avoid them.”

Lu Li knew she was joking, ”Haha, so you plan to stay single all your life?”

Speaking of this, Shen Xia said openly, ”Perhaps, anyway, until now, apart from having some feelings for boys during puberty, I’ve always been immersed in physics.”

Lu Li was surprised, ”Don’t tell me you’ve never been in a relationship?”

Shen Xia nodded slightly, ”I have no interest in relationships, I only want to uncover the mysteries of the world.”

Hearing this, Lu Li couldn’t help but gaze onto Shen Xia’s face.

Honestly, her makeup-free face might only be above average in looks, not considered a typical great beauty, but she gives off a very pure vibe.

On that pure face, Lu Li saw a child-like innocence.

He had never met a woman as pure as Shen Xia.

This purity wasn’t from her body, or her actions, but from deep within her soul.

Lu Li really didn’t expect that there could be such a ”pure” woman in the world.

Though he had no inappropriate thoughts about Shen Xia, he quite liked being friends with someone like her.

So, Lu Li joked with her: ”You wouldn’t happen to be a lesbian, would you?”

Shen Xia smiled, ”Of course not, sometimes I also check out handsome guys.”

Lu Li pointed to himself, ”So do you think I’m handsome?”

Shen Xia carefully examined his face for a moment and then answered seriously: ”To be honest, I’ve never seen a man with features as perfectly proportioned as yours. Your face looks like a masterpiece crafted by nature, hard to believe it’s real.”

As she said this, her gaze was clear, not at all filled with desire like some flame babe.

Lu Li knew why his appearance seemed so ”perfect.”

Evolution generally tends toward perfection.

He was still considered human.

Naturally, he had to evolve perfectly towards the so-called ”aesthetic standards” of humans.

Therefore, he could very responsibly say that there might not be anyone in the world whose features are more perfect than his own.

Lu Li continued to tease her: ”If I told you I had plastic surgery, would you believe it?”

Shen Xia was a little surprised: ”Impossible, can plastic surgery look as natural as you?”

Lu Li said, ”Haha, I’m not kidding you, I haven’t had surgery. Hey, if you wished to become more beautiful, but it required some sacrifices, would you choose to become more beautiful?”

Shen Xia didn’t immediately answer but thought for a while.

Then, she gently shook her head, ”Probably not.”

Lu Li was a bit surprised: ”Why?”

Shen Xia said seriously: ”Beauty is just a sensory perception. I think the true beauty of a person should come from the heart. If someone cares about my appearance instead of seeing my soul, then it’s okay if we don’t deepen the relationship.”

These words made Lu Li quite emotional.

He really had never seen anyone as pure as Shen Xia.

Especially in today’s rather restless society, Shen Xia’s kind of purity is truly precious.

Lu Li smiled and asked: ”So, by what you’re saying, you want to be friends with me because you see the goodness in my soul?”

Shen Xia admitted: ”Yes, setting aside your looks and your talent in physics, even if you were an ordinary person, not someone with immense wealth, I would still want to be friends with you.”

Lu Li was curious: ”Why?”

Shen Xia slowly said: ”I am usually busy with work and don’t interact with many people, but your presence feels different from anyone I’ve met. How should I put it? I feel like you appear very carefree on the surface, but in reality, you are studious, courageous, and resilient. You also don’t put on airs when interacting with others, unlike some wealthy people. Even though they seem approachable, they are actually aloof at heart. Such behavior that comes from the soul is truly rare to see.”

Indeed, if most people experienced a sudden surge in power and wealth as I did, they would probably become arrogant.

I’ve never been like that, and my interactions with everyone are the same as before.

Lu Li hadn’t noticed this at first, but it was only after Shen Xia mentioned it that he realized it was true.

This might be related to my character.

Although I hold grudges, my nature seems a bit lazy, too lazy to be ”arrogant.”

Lu Li didn’t expect Shen Xia to notice this advantage of his.

This made him feel quite sentimental, because until now, whether it was Liu Kexin or the flame babe, the intersections with them were never as pure, and mostly stemmed from his looks.

Now, having someone who can ”appreciate” his true nature makes Lu Li feel very content.

Most importantly, Shen Xia was very sincere when she said these words.

Sincere to the point that even without telepathy, Lu Li could tell she was speaking from her heart.

Because of this, he felt a satisfaction from being ”appreciated,” a feeling that was immensely wonderful.

Lu Li also looked at Shen Xia with seriousness and said earnestly: ”When I’m with other women, there’s more or less a purpose, which you can imagine. But, when I’m with you, I don’t have any distractions. I just feel you’re very pure, and it’s very comfortable being friends with you.”

Shen Xia blinked her big eyes and said, ”So you mean I’m not beautiful enough to catch your eye?”

Lu Li: ”...”

Shen Xia suddenly burst into laughter, ”Just kidding.”

Lu Li was taken aback, then couldn’t help but laugh along.

This woman is quite interesting.

Everything she says and does is amusing.

Lu Li thought to himself that this is the way normal relationships between people should be.

No distractions towards each other, just simply making friends.

He quite enjoyed interacting with Shen Xia, feeling it was like a casual chat after a meal with a close friend, without any mundane constraints. Basically saying whatever came to mind, this kind of interaction felt very free.
