Armed Train in the Apocalypse

After a few minutes, Yu Yue’s voice appeared in his ear a bit later.

”There is a small-scale corpse tide passing directly ahead. Command asked whether to continue forward or stand firm and resist?”

Feeling the number of corpses, Su Huan said indifferently, ”Just continue forward as normal.”

”According to the information sent back from the Hive, about one kilometer ahead, the gravity is strengthened by one-third multiplier, which will slow the train’s speed.”

”Go around it.”

”Understood.”

The train slightly altered its direction, skirting the heavy zone and continued heading northeast.

Jiao Ting led his men with due diligence to scout ahead, guarding against Evolution Beasts and zombies along the way.

Of course, the train wouldn’t leave such an important matter solely to the Iron Wolf Corps, and as per usual, scouts were dispatched in all directions.

As they approached the gravity-doubled area, Su Huan noticeably felt his body become much heavier, as if carrying a sandbag evenly, from his body to his organs, all feeling a slight sense of suppression, affecting him as if he were in a sauna.

In his perception, the flow of energy in this area slowed down, like a rushing river suddenly calming here.

Thus, Su Huan could detect the strange gravity zone faster than the train and immediately alerted them verbally when the train couldn’t sense it in time.

After maneuvering around three chaotic gravity areas, the train managed to travel fifteen kilometers, while on the tundra straight ahead appeared silhouettes rushing forward, initially at the horizon and then densely filling the view, the wilderness echoing with terrifying howls from all sides.

Discounting extreme cases, humans have an average speed of about 20 km/h. A Tier One zombie horde commonly reaches speeds of 60 km/h, and speed-type zombies can even exceed this during a burst.

In a few breaths, the originally empty wilderness was engulfed by the corpse tide.

Two off-road vehicles along with four motorcycles sprinted over the waves, racing back towards the train.

”Corpse tide!”

Jiao Ting leapt off his motorbike directly onto the train’s roof, shouting with an ashen face, ”It’s a major corpse tide exceeding ten thousand, quick turn around! If we’re held up, it’ll be too late.”

”Boom boom boom...”

Zombies dashed wildly across the wilderness like out-of-control beasts, their wild momentum chilling to behold even during daylight.

If Scavengers without vehicles encountered such a corpse tide in the unprotected wilderness, one could imagine the level of despair they’d face.

No wonder the Iron Wolf Corps preferred risking being thrown off the floating island rather than staying below. Such a massive corpse tide sweeping through meant smaller forces couldn’t survive, not even by hiding in sewers, as only from the sky could they hope to resist desperately.

Su Huan observed the corpse tide while discussing through Yu Yue and the command station inside the train.

”Logically, corpse tides of this scale usually remain in fixed locations and won’t move on such a large scale without a Lord leading them.”

”According to the AI database analysis, it should be due to Donghuang Heavy Industry.”

”Donghuang Heavy Industry?”

Su Huan’s eyes grew cold, ”What does that mean?”

”In September, Donghuang Heavy Industry took over the capital of Yuchuan Province, but apparently didn’t clean it up thoroughly, driving some zombies outside. The timeline matches, though that’s just the largest possibility among others. The corpse tide might have come from surrounding cities or been attracted by Deep Blue Data’s battle...”

While Su Huan listened to the analysis from the command station, he saw Jiao Ting stomping his feet anxiously in front.

”What did you say?”

Su Huan looked at the anxious face of the stout man.

Jiao Ting sighed as the number of zombies increased, ”It’s too late to run now. Let’s quickly hide inside the train, have your men open fire to consume as many zombies as possible. If we take down all Tier Two zombies, we’ll have a chance to shake off the entire corpse tide.”

Su Huan glanced at the heavy machine guns on the train’s roof, ”Do you mean these?”

”Of course!”

Jiao Ting felt he was almost dying of impatience, yet this young man remained calm throughout.

”We’re out of bullets. This time we came to find ammunition.”

Su Huan stated truthfully.

”What?”

Jiao Ting’s pupils contracted, out of bullets?

Are you banking on the metal train carriages to block the corpse tide?

Tier Two zombies can rip through steel with their bare hands!

Though Su Huan seemed mysterious and the armed train was the most formidable vehicle Jiao Ting had seen, the terrifying creatures they’d soon face didn’t inspire confidence. His previous composure was based on the hundreds of heavy machine guns and cannons on Su Huan’s train roof.

Now, hearing these were mere showpieces, Jiao Ting almost swore in frustration.

But considering he still needed to hide in the other’s train, he forcefully swallowed his curses.

The train emitted a whale-like whistle and came to a halt, as the returning scout teams familiar with operations drove the off-road vehicles back into the train’s rear garage and positioned mobile vehicles on either side of the train, connecting them into a wall nearly a hundred meters long.

Seeing this, Jiao Ting anxiously exclaimed, ”That’s a corpse tide of tens of thousands, we need to run to avoid encirclement.”

Su Huan calmly replied, ”No need for all that trouble.”

He then snapped his fingers towards the end of the corpse tide.

Jiao Ting looked bewilderedly at the sudden change, and then instinctively turned his head fearfully.

A small boy descended precisely upon the distant zombie horde from God’s trousers, followed by a tangible line of ripple expanding from the center to all sides, wherever it passed, it didn’t matter if zombies were running or standing confused, regardless of rank, they suddenly vanished.

It wasn’t an explosion, but a gradual vaporization from the flesh.

Witnessing this terrifying scene, Jiao Ting cursed and the stout figure jumped onto the iron-wood deck beside him, taking cover with his head down.

(Thanks to the reader for providing a diagram. Actually, the middle deck is a bit lower than the train on both sides.)

The roar engulfed every howl, and the world seemed to quieten.

Just when Jiao Ting worried about the elite he brought along, he suddenly sensed something was off.

Why hasn’t half a day passed without the explosion affecting here yet?

He tentatively raised his head and noticed wave after wave had vanished directly in front of the train. It was as if they had never appeared, and around him, a row of sturdy combat boots stood, a bit above them the hem of a gray-green trench coat was visible.

A boisterous voice reached his ears, ”The standard this time is simple, whichever team uses the least bullets to eliminate the most zombies will receive a reward, otherwise extra training!”

”Yes!”

The clanging of footsteps resounded on the deck.

Jiao Ting first glanced upwards, Su Huan still stood there, his black and red Power Armor seemed even untouched by dust. Then he realized a muscular man with a cigarette extended one to him.

Amusingly asked, ”Backflip’s quite standard, practiced?”

Jiao Ting took the cigarette, instinctively glanced at the corpse tide outside, and was shocked.

The entire corpse tide on the distant horizon had vanished, and there was no longer an endless supply.

Only a scattering one to two thousand zombies nearby, howling as they rushed towards the nearest train carriage before being emotionlessly taken down by soldiers. Their killing was so practiced, the positioning, division of labor like an efficient machine, even more fearsome than the rampaging hordes below.

”Reservist, haven’t practiced in years, compared to you guys I’m just a rookie.”

Jiao Ting tremblingly stuck the cigarette into his mouth.

Scenes flashed through his mind, from Su Huan’s appearance on the Iron Wolf Corps’ floating island, leaping from the twenty-meter-high floating island, to the mysterious finger snap just now.

Sudden relief struck his heart; fortunately, he hadn’t shown hostility at the start, the worst being an invitation for a spiked drink.

”You guys wouldn’t be...”

Jiao Ting suddenly asked with a glimmer of hope.
