Armed Train in the Apocalypse

When daylight shattered the cold mist and scattered over the floating land, the small county town, which had been tranquil for a long time, suddenly became noisy. Dozens of drones swept across the floating land, one meter off the ground, scanning with their whooshing hums piercing through the air. Even the backside of the floating land had mechanical spiders crawling up and down, searching for various information.

Armed soldiers in gray-green coats split into two groups, one delving deep into the shadow-covered Bishui County and the other spreading out in vehicles.

Yu Jing, who had been busy in the laboratory all night, lazily stretched, her graceful curves perfectly displayed. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a living soul in this lab to appreciate the view, except for the orange-red power armor before her, crafted with a Tier Two crab shell as its main component — the ”Thunder” power armor.

The power armor stood 2.4 meters tall yet weighed only 60 kg when empty.

The Guardian-2 Type, after numerous adjustments, typically had a height range of 1.9 to 2.1 meters, but its unladen weight reached 120 kg.

This is twice as heavy as the Thunder. If fully armed with weapons and ammunition, its weight would increase by about 130 kg, with the ammunition alone weighing more than the power armor itself. Yet, this is not the end of it, as a long-handled battle axe weighing about 25 kg is also added. If soldiers prefer other weapons, the weight could go even further, nearly reaching the 300 kg mark.

This is where the name ”Guardian” comes from.

Due to its armored enclosure, this power armor is too heavy, unsuited for high-speed combat. On the battlefield, it acts more like a ”tank,” ”fortress,” or ”firepower point.”

Even with the technical data on exoskeletons from the military factory, lowering the height of the power armor repeatedly, the issue remains unresolved.

However, with ammunition consumption, the Guardian power armor becomes increasingly agile as it fights.

”With only 40% completion, who would be suitable to use it...?”

Yu Jing leaned against the edge of the desk, quickly pinching a muscle tissue that resembled a blob of jelly gel.

After pondering for a while without any clear idea, she tossed the muscle into a nearby petri dish, changed clothes, and returned to compartment No. 4.

At this hour, the Armed Corps were all out, and the crew was on duty, so she didn’t encounter any acquaintances. As soon as she entered, Yu Jing instinctively glanced at Yu Yue’s bed. The quilt was neatly folded at the headboard, showing no signs of being used.

Looking up, she saw Yu Yue quietly appearing at the staircase.

There were no marks on the latter’s body, but there was an undeniable sneaky feeling, like someone unsure due to guilt.

”You’re back, Xiaojing...”

Yu Yue awkwardly tucked back the hair beside her ear.

Yu Jing habitually gave her a hug, ”I’m going to sleep. Don’t call me for meals later.”

In a place Yu Yue couldn’t see, her daughter’s nose gave a light sniff, with a hint of a smile in her phoenix eyes.

Before Yu Yue could say anything, Yu Jing had returned to her bed to lie down, allowing the busy woman to tuck her in—performing insignificant tasks meant to ease her anxiety.

Yu Jing, who had been busy for many days, soon fell into a deep sleep.

Although her aunt often seemed clumsy, she worked hard when it came to important matters about herself.

...

At noon, the train conductor sat behind his large hardwood desk, a pen in his hand hovering over an open logbook. According to Shu Wei’s observation, he had held this position for more than three hours without writing a word, just blankly staring.

He’s been zoning out a lot lately. Shu Wei silently entered for the fifth time to place the processed documents beside him.

The man suddenly looked up at her, his gaze almost tangible.

”Am I too harsh on you?”

The sudden question almost broke the reserve of his secretary, who prided herself on her composure. Her heart trembled, ’What new game is this little rascal up to now?’

She calmly replied, ”If it’s about work, it’s fine. Five secretaries can already help me share a lot of the tedious tasks. If you’re referring to the bedroom, maybe just ease up a bit, considering my evolutionary pace can’t keep up with you, and this gap will only widen in the future.”

Su Huan stared at the woman in front of him—icy on the outside but fiery within—his eyes momentarily dazed.

He greatly appreciated Shu Wei’s way of doing things. Only with her could he fully unleash his desires and quirky interests without needing to worry about the other party’s tolerance.

The woman misunderstood Su Huan’s silence, silently tying her hair up and coming forward to squat down.

Before she could act, Su Huan lifted her up, not subjecting her to the rough treatment she anticipated. Instead, he lightly bit her neck. Shu Wei had internally complained about this beast-like expression of affection multiple times, but for the first time, she found warmth in his gesture.

”You can refuse if you don’t feel like it.”

Su Huan’s voice was exceptionally gentle today, as it reached her ears.

”Hmm?”

Shu Wei’s brows held a hint of doubt—had he changed?

Testing, she asked, ”What if you want to?”

”Then I will want.”

”What if I happen not to want to give it?”

”Then I will still want.”

Watching Su Huan’s genuine and innocent expression, as sincere as a good child, Shu Wei almost laughed in exasperation.

Rather than granting her the right to ”refuse,” it added a touch of playfulness. If he persisted, how could she truly refuse?

Shu Wei sighed lightly, ”There’s actual work to do today.”

Su Huan buried his head in her bosom, with the pleasing scent of cedar and bitter orange filling his nostrils, rasping, ”Speak.”

”Tong Zizhan delivered the genetic potion to Director Xu, and the tests are completed. Both potion sets have no issues: they’re respectively the next stages of Tier One ’Dusk Robe’ and ’Beast Eye,’ Tier Two ’Thousand Threads’ and ’Hundred Beast Eye.’ The former can obscure regional perception, hiding the traces of over a thousand people after advancing to Tier Two, while the latter can simulate the vision of various beasts. These are extremely rare professions.”
