Armed Train in the Apocalypse

As Su Huan walked slowly, nimble figures had already rushed past him towards the ruins.

It’s worth mentioning that the speed of the mongoose was a bit faster, being the fastest Tier One Evolver he had ever seen, sometimes even surpassing a Tier One Evolution Beast. Soldiers disembarked from the vehicle behind him, entering the village with vigilance, completely disregarding the protection of the train conductor.

Su Huan didn’t interfere with their work, just wandered around the village on his own.

Finally, he stood next to a deep pit, the hole was three meters deep with a diameter exceeding twenty meters, the bottom crystallized with a layer of blood frost, yet lacking any corpses, and no footprints of Evolution Beasts around it, but Su Huan could see the residual energy they left behind.

Not much, but enough for him to deduce the situation back then.

The attacked party detonated some kind of high-yield explosive, along with other ability enhancements, resulting in such a big crater.

However, the difference in power between the two sides was not too wide, at least they had the energy to take away supplies and their companions’ bodies, leaving the Mutant Beasts to only lick the blood frost on the ground.

Three minutes later, the Trace Expert in the squad gathered the battlefield clues, compiled them into a comprehensive report, and handed it to Su Huan.

The attackers numbered around a hundred, used ten vehicles, all elite, with over twenty Tier One Evolvers, at least two Tier Two, and heavy firepower, much like the nameless armed forces the train encountered these two days.

The attacked party numbered over two hundred, carrying a large amount of supplies, firepower comparable to the military, with at least one Tier Two Evolver leading.

Giraffe handed two shell casings to Su Huan, ”There’s no difference in bullet craftsmanship between the two, it might be an internal conflict of the nearby major powers.”

Su Huan looked at the shell casings in his hand without making a sound.

Early on, Donghuang inherited many military technologies from the Northern Alliance, and later the Northern Alliance received considerable support from Donghuang, so some ammunition models were identical in both places, with craftsmanship inherited from the same lineage, which explains it from this perspective.

But it’s somewhat far-fetched, the probability fits more with Giraffe’s guess.

”Whose territory is this nearby?”

Su Huan asked.

”Technically it’s Donghuang Heavy Industry, but there are other small forces surviving here, roughly based on the analysis, they’re located to the west and north.” Giraffe tentatively asked, ”Do you want to go inquire about the situation?”

Su Huan squinted his eyes, ”Just casually ask the small forces, let Shu Wei send a message to Donghuang Heavy Industry, stating that I lost something on their territory, as the host they’re responsible.”

”Yes!”

Giraffe briefly sympathized with Donghuang Heavy Industry, who got blamed without being involved in anything.

...

Yuchuan Province Capital, Donghuang Heavy Industry.

The once bustling metropolis was transformed into a steel fortress, the original concrete buildings abandoned, replaced by stacked-up metal blocks like iron cages, extending dozens of floors high, the outer layer resembling scaffolding steel structure, with narrow steel-plated paths intertwining outside the staircase where people flowed back and forth.

Surrounding buildings were mostly similar, resembling steel nests crowded together complexly.

Compared to the open space outside, people preferred to squeeze into this hive-like city, or into underground urban areas like subway tunnels and shopping malls. Though it was dark and unseen here, a bit smelly too, it was much warmer than the surface, ordinary people could survive without painstakingly trying to keep warm.

Yet some buildings stood separate outside the hive city, like the checkpoint to the south of Donghuang Heavy Industry. Besides checking Scavengers entering the city, it housed the strongest armed forces of the whole Gravity Zone, the Donghuang Heavy Armor Brigade.

In a bare office building serving as a barrack, angry roars of a woman echoed from the sixth floor.

The metallic security door slammed against the wall with a bang, the window frame vibrated, cold air surged in, but it couldn’t diminish the anger of the inner occupants.

Lian Jin, who boldly walked in originally, suddenly stiffened, pulled his suit to cover his flamboyant chest muscles, and stealthily approached the expressionless Yang Ruoyu outside the door, ”What’s going on, sis, why’s the window here lacking any glass.”

The latter nodded towards the deformed metal door on the ground, helplessly saying, ”Just changed the door, haven’t gotten around to the window yet.”

”But rather than focusing on that, you might want to consider yourself.”

”What’s wrong with me?”

”Since returning, you’ve stayed on the front lines without coming back once. The leadership is very dissatisfied with you, and recently Deep Blue Data’s people have been making her very unhappy.”

Lian Jin’s thick eyebrows furrowed, ”Deep Blue Data? What are they here for?”

”Lian Jin! Get in here!”

A shout erupted from the room, causing Lian Jin to instinctively shrink his head outside the window.

Then, under the sighing gaze of Xiaoshui, he walked into the office, a mouse exploded beside his head, and as he just lifted his head, he noticed a shadow coming face-to-face. As he just tried to dodge, he realized it was his sister’s favorite mug, forcing him to helplessly catch it; otherwise, if the cup broke he’d face another bout of scolding. His sister wasn’t one to hold grudges, she generally settled them on the spot.

”You’ve finally come back? Letting you out once really let you go wild, haven’t been home for months. I have a dog that’s smart enough to know to come home when hungry, you have no clue? People who know think Mom gave birth to a son, those who don’t still think she gave birth to a drifting bottle!”

A string of curses like firecrackers entered his ears, Lian Jin didn’t mind, instead, he smiled apologetically, cautiously placing the cup back on the nearby cabinet on hand, to avoid having it thrown back again just after handing it over.
