Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Behind him, Gao Yuan, drenched in sweat, followed closely, feeling as if he were dreaming.

They clearly went to confront someone, but after an inexplicable conversation, they somehow left without explanation.

”What’s the situation? The conductor didn’t notice?”

Tong Zizhan sighed softly, ”The conductor probably noticed long ago; it was just our wishful thinking before.”

Gao Yuan was startled, ”Then why...”

”Why didn’t he kill us? We just discussed this. He values our camaraderie through hardship.”

”He’s actually very sentimental.”

The two of them had guessed this possibility, but when they said it out loud, they were still deeply shaken and uneasy.

After taking a couple of steps, Gao Yuan asked, ”Are the two of us considered traitors now?”

”We can’t slack off anymore.”

”If it weren’t for you, a college student, dragging me along, I would have thought long ago how nice it would be to follow the conductor, plenty to eat and drink.”

”But no college students.”

”Get lost!”

...

Gravity Zone.

A well-equipped convoy drove over the uneven ground, overhead were giant shadows blocking out the sun.

The vehicles were covered in scratches, perfectly erasing all the insignias that could indicate faction affiliation, but more apparent were the bomb craters and gunpowder burns.

Some car windows were missing as the wind rushed inside, and a big chunk was missing from some car rears.

The convoy had clearly been through a major battle.

Inside the car, Wei Mountain frowned deeply, ”That was two sets of Tier Two Genetic Potions; if the plan fails, your fate won’t be much better than mine.”

Haywood shrugged, ”Of course, you’re one of the company’s nine executives and have the option of retirement; I’m just a minor employee.”

”Then what’s your point of going the extra mile?”

”Naturally, it’s to sow discord.”

Wei Mountain’s eyes were filled with more doubts; he could see it was to sow discord, but what was the purpose?

He knew Tong Zizhan and Gao Yuan weren’t that loyal to the company anymore; they might have even defected already. But even if they were the conductor’s right-hand men, they were just two Tier One Evolvers. What value was there in using two Tier Two Genetic Potions to sow discord?

Haywood said casually, ”If it were you, would you hand over the Tier Two Potion to the company?”

Wei Mountain in the back seat was silent for a moment, vaguely understanding Haywood’s point.

Tong Zizhan certainly wouldn’t hand the potion over to the train; their loyalty to the train was limited. So next, they could move them through other means, or use them to pass false information to the train, which would be crucial in the upcoming battles!

This was a small breakthrough obtained at a great cost.

Wei Mountain was silent for a moment, then sighed, ”You’d make a great politician.”

”Perhaps I already am. Steady yourself, my old leader, you’re going to be busy soon.”

The convoy headed straight to the recently recaptured provincial capital in the Gravity Zone.

...

Accompanied by the crackling sound of electricity and the roar of engines, the train tore through the Fungus Carpet like a lightning dragon, revealing a clear view ahead as the treads creaked over the thinning fungus carpet. Apart from mushrooms, other plants began to appear sporadically in the world, and chunks of land in various sizes materialized in the sky in the distance.

The people following the train on both sides let out a great cheer; they finally emerged from the Spore Zone!

Su Huan sniffed the wind hitting his face, now drier without all the dampness of the Mushroom Zone, feeling refreshed. But his eyes still remained calm as still water; the Gravity Zone was far from his final destination, just a part of the journey.

The train’s front started to steer according to the plan, heading towards the Dayunpo Bishui County in Jinfeng Province.

Having left the Spore Zone, the speed of the armored train gradually picked up. Even without him injecting additional electricity, the speed reached 60 km/h, and within just over three hours, they’d reach their destination.

Looking back, Su Han sifted through the fruit basket in his hand, picking out an unfamiliar green date, took a couple of bites, and frowned slightly.

Su Han anxiously asked, ”Is it too sour?”

”The taste is fine, just has slight toxicity.”

The girl sighed in relief, ”Director Xu said only you can eat this fruit, so I washed some for you; normally, we just keep it as an ornamental plant.”

Su Huan’s forehead was lined with black marks. He spat out the date pit, snorted, and returned inside through the train’s heavy weapon operation cabin.

The girl followed closely, leaving the date pit tracing an elegant parabola through the air for over fifty meters, eventually landing in fertile soil.

Behind them, drones soared into the sky like hawks, not only for reconnaissance but also brandishing black gun barrels.

Upon entering the train, Su Huan immediately saw a thick, sturdy figure by the control panel. Just sitting there, it was like a small mountain, the chair beneath stretched to its limit to bear his awesome weight.

This was Liang Kuan’s ”workstation.” Apart from carrying his shield while accompanying the conductor on missions, he always sat here.

Beside his hand was a pot of strong tea, a large glass bottle forty centimeters high, with a fifth of it filled with tea leaves.

Su Huan waved his hand, dismissing the staff who’d wanted to greet him, and walked behind Liang Kuan, casually squeezing his shoulder. Old Liang turned around with some wonder, but seeing it was the conductor, he was unsurprised.

Su Huan was the only one on the train who interacted with him like this.

”We’ll arrive shortly. The terrain is a bit rough, but the train’s current obstruction-passing ability is very strong.”

Liang Kuan replied in a muffled voice.

Su Huan shook his head, ”I’m not here for that. Your home is in Yuchuan, right?”

Liang Kuan’s body froze, his heavy breathing paused for a moment, then he responded with a heavy ”hmm.”

”Once we grab the munitions, we’ll go have a look.”

”I’ve always cooked for you; when we get to your place, if you can’t serve up something decent to entertain me, hehe...”

”Alright.”

There was no further response, only this single word.

Like the heavy earth, no matter how great the tremor, it remained silent for him. But regardless of when you stomped around to test it, he was there, rock solid.

Su Huan patted his solid arm, ”Stop monitoring here. The train runs whether you’re here or not now.”

But Liang Kuan didn’t move, eyes locked on the data on the screen, speaking quietly, ”The speed’s increased.”

Su Huan turned his head, noticing the train’s speed had surged from 60 km/h to 70, with a tendency to climb even further.

His gaze instantly sharpened.

The armored train wasn’t some small family car; it comprised over a hundred carriages weighing several hundred tons each, forming a steel behemoth weighing forty to fifty thousand tons. Even with its structure optimized by numerous experts, it couldn’t reach this speed without his power augmentation.

”Is it out of control?”

The thought flashed through Su Huan’s mind, but with the hardware in place, it couldn’t possibly be this aggressive even if out of control, could it?

He’s only heard of people drunkenly hitting their spouses, never of anyone drunkenly solving world problems.

”This is a normal phenomenon in the Gravity Zone.” Glasses quickly explained when seeing the grave expressions on the two’s faces, ”Based on the conclusions from the Spore Zone, we found the Disaster Zone doesn’t have strict boundaries; they sometimes ’cross over’ each other. Hence we arranged detection before the train entered this time.”

”We discovered the Gravity Zone’s gravitational pull was somewhat imbalanced; in outlying areas, gravity could decrease by about one-sixth, which is also why the train is accelerating.”

”Moreover, although we haven’t encountered increased gravity yet, it’s highly likely the train will, so for safety’s sake, we’ll lower the train’s speed to around 40 km/h to avoid gravitational shifts damaging the train body.”

Su Huan nonchalantly turned away, ”Alright, proceed with the operation; I’m off to eat.”

It seemed he was becoming increasingly slack, unaware of such crucial matters.

There must be a traitor at his side, blinding the conductor!

Who could it be?

It must be Shu Wei. Even if she isn’t a traitor, she failed in her duty to remind the conductor.

Punishment!

She must be properly punished!
