Not Being a Trainer This Time

“Tyranitar has lost its battle capability! The Gym Leader Naoki wins this match!”

The referee stepped forward to check Tyranitar’s condition and announced the result of the battle.

The Tyranitar’s whole body was charred from the electricity, its enormous body lay motionless on the ground, its eyes almost turned into spirals, and its armor-like shell was covered with scars.

The live-streaming Phone Rotom captured a close-up of Tyranitar’s condition.

This scene instantly drew a gasp from the crowd, who all took a sharp intake of breath.

Just one Thunder had turned Tyranitar into this state; the power of that Zapdos’s move was truly terrifying… as expected of a legendary Pokemon!

The appearance of Zapdos prompted the audience to take out their phones to record, and the live broadcast’s popularity began to soar rapidly, attracting countless new viewers.

On the battlefield, Zapdos flapped its wings, hovering in mid-air.

Jean couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat on his forehead, so terrifying was its power…

“Let’s continue! If you want to get the Electric Badge, prove your strength to me.” Naoki said.

The Gym Leader could not switch Pokemon during the battle, so he did not recall Zapdos.

Upon hearing this, Jean took a deep breath, then recalled Tyranitar into its Poke Ball and took out another one.

“Gallade, I’m counting on you this time.”

The second battle, Gallade vs. Zapdos, officially begins!

“Double Team, approach it!”

Jean rapidly issued the command, facing the formidable Zapdos, at this moment there was no trace of underestimation in his heart; instead, he put forth all his effort.

Gallade had been with him since the day he started his journey, helping him reach the semi-finals of the Lilycove Contest, and was his most reliable Pokemon.

On the field, as soon as the trainer’s voice appeared, Gallade’s figure began to flicker. It sprinted rapidly toward Zapdos’s position while creating dozens of clones, attempting to use them to disrupt Zapdos’s aim.

“Do you plan to use Double Team to interfere and launch a surprise attack?” Naoki immediately saw through the opponent’s plan and ordered, “Zapdos, Discharge!”

“Zzzzap!”

A powerful electric current erupted from Zapdos’s body, accompanied by dazzling sparks, enveloping Zapdos, who was mid-air, in an overwhelming Electric Type Energy.

That energy spread rapidly in all directions centered on Zapdos until it covered the entire battlefield.

Gallade’s Double Team clones were all consumed, disappearing like bubbles one by one, and the real body hidden among them, ready to launch an assault, was also caught in the spark’s range.

Almost instantly, Gallade felt the intense current enter its body, sweeping over its entire being.

“Zzzalala!”

Gallade attempted to use Teleport to escape the spark’s range, but its right hand immediately lost control.

Oh no! I can’t move!

“Is it paralyzed?” Seeing this situation, Jean tightly clenched his hands and shouted loudly, “Gallade, hold on!”

“Zapdos, Thunder.”

“Boom!”

A thick bolt of lightning struck down from the sky, replaying the previous scene as Gallade was engulfed by lightning.

A moment later, Gallade fell to the ground.

“Gallade has lost its battle capability; the Gym Leader Naoki wins this match! Jean’s trainer now has only one Pokemon left. If he continues to lose, he will lose this Gym battle!” the referee reminded.

Damn it! Am I going to lose? In all his years of travel, Jean had never encountered such a troublesome opponent.

He initially thought that the Gym challenge in Paldea would go smoothly, that those Gym Leaders were so easy to defeat in front of his powerful Pokemon partners.

Sometimes, he even thought that the Gym challenges were meaningless because those guys were so weak.

He even disdained to communicate with the Gym Leaders during Gym battles and would turn to leave after defeating them and obtaining the Badge.

But now…

Recalling in his mind what the opponent just said, was he too arrogant?

Jean was in complete disarray, dazedly sending out his third Pokemon, an Altaria.

But three minutes later, Altaria also fell under Zapdos’s lightning.

“Altaria has lost its battle capability, and the Gym Leader Naoki wins this match!”

The referee blew the whistle in his hand, announcing the result of the battle.

Jean recalled Altaria, staring blankly at the Poke Ball in his hand, then turned around and left.

Watching this scene, Naoki sighed silently in his heart.

If this trainer could tone down his temperament, not be so arrogant in the face of other weaker trainers, and fight seriously and wholeheartedly regardless of the opponent, he would still be willing to award him the Gym Badge.

Because Lono had said that the Gym battle is not merely an assessment of a trainer’s strength.

Besides that, it also tests their willpower, character, and heart.

As long as one can gain the Gym Leader’s recognition in any respect, and their strength isn’t too inferior, the Gym Leader may award the Badge as a recognition of their performance.

I hope to see him again in the future!
