Not Being a Trainer This Time

The screen showed Tobias’s Darkrai defeating the opposing Pokemon with just one move.

Naoki lost interest after a few glances, as the upcoming events were ones he had seen before.

Just then, the alarm went off, and Naoki hurriedly turned off his Rotom Phone and got up to check the steamer.

As soon as the pot lid was opened, a sweet and glutinous aroma greeted him, accompanied by steam.

In the wispy mist, round, plump dumplings lay quietly.

The moment Naoki’s gaze landed on them, information about those dumplings emerged in his mind.

[Dragon Shedding Pill (A): A dumpling made from the skin shed by Dratini and glutinous rice flour, with various jams added inside for enhanced flavor.

Cooking Effect: Dragon’s Armor. When used on a Pokemon, this effect grants ”Dragon’s Armor,” greatly increasing the toughness of skin and scales, thereby reducing damage taken when attacked. This effect is only applicable to Dragon Type Pokemon and can be used only once per Pokemon.]

Rating: Quickly feed your Dragon Type Pokemon!]

”Hmm? Greatly increasing the toughness of skin and scales? Also reduces damage taken?”

Seeing these descriptions, the ability that popped into Naoki’s mind was Dragonite’s Multiscale!

[Multiscale: When HP is full, damage received is reduced.]

So the effect of this Dragon Shedding Pill is basically a permanent Multiscale ability?

This is game-changing!

Given Dragonite’s current strength, if it were to consume a Dragon Shedding Pill and combine it with its Multiscale ability, even Legendary Pokemon’s attacks might not do much damage.

Even more exaggerated is that it works not only for Dragonite family but also for other Dragon-type Pokemon!

Naoki immediately called Koraidon, Cyclizar, and Dragonite to feed them each a Dragon Shedding Pill.

The three Pokemon, although unaware of what it was, obediently swallowed the pill.

Dragonite tasted the sweet jam inside and instantly let out a happy growl: ”Awoo~”

”How does it feel?” Naoki observed the three Pokemon’s state closely.

”Agassi~” Koraidon emitted a joyful sound.

”Gaho~” Cyclizar also displayed a cheerful expression.

”It seems that this pill will slowly improve the physique of Dragon-type Pokemon...” Seeing no obvious changes, Naoki murmured to himself.

As they grow, it will gradually enhance the toughness of their skin and the sturdiness of their scales, much like some herbal pills.

”Alright, that’s it. You can go back to playing now!”

Having verified the effects of the Dragon Shedding Pill, Naoki decided to send the remaining pills to Giratina and the Dragon-type Pokemon at the World Tree.

Yet before doing that, he watched Cyclizar’s departing back and suddenly felt that the Little Cyclizar at home was becoming a buffed-up monster.

Two months ago was Cyclizar’s birthday, and Naoki had fed it a cake that boosted species strength as a birthday treat.

To date, Cyclizar had eaten birthday cakes four times, and its species strength has reached unknown heights. Combined with various other enhancing cuisines, Cyclizar’s true strength might not be as harmless and ordinary as it often appears.

”I’ll have to find an opportunity to test it out,” Naoki thought.

He originally thought this opportunity would take a while, but that very afternoon, when he went to town to buy ingredients, he noticed a research institute specialized in examining Pokemon’s physical qualities and skill levels.

”Hmm? A research institute for examining Pokemon’s physical qualities?” Naoki raised his eyebrows, intrigued by this research.

He couldn’t resist asking the people nearby for information about the research institute.

Soon, Naoki gathered some general information from the helpful townspeople.

The owner of the institute was named Professor Kuroki, who reportedly had moved from the Kanto Region, attracted by the culture and customs of the Paldea Region and Calyrex, and thus had relocated the institute to this town.

Initially, Naoki thought Professor Kuroki would be a white-haired elder like Professor Oak.

But upon visiting the institute, he discovered that Professor Kuroki was quite young, seemingly had just graduated from university not long ago, looking no older than twenty-five or twenty-six.

”Ah? Hello! Welcome to my research institute!” Seeing Naoki suddenly arrive, Professor Kuroki greeted him with a smile and then turned his attention to Koraidon by Naoki’s side: ”Wow, such a dense dragon aura!”

”Hello, Professor Kuroki, I’m Naoki, and I’d like to have my Pokemon’s physical qualities examined.” Naoki said.

”Of course, you’re very welcome.” Professor Kuroki grinned widely, stood up, and began introducing Naoki to his research institute.

On the way, Naoki spotted graduation certificates from Celadon University and several research gold awards on the wall.

This indicated that Professor Kuroki was quite a high achiever!

”Here’s my laboratory. Though it appears cluttered, it’s fully functional!”

Said Professor Kuroki, pointing to the machines in the laboratory:

”This side is for testing strength; over there is for testing speed; at the very end is for testing resilience. I specifically research the variability among different individuals of the same species of Pokemon.”
