Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 388: Chapter 340: Were You Really Hit by a Nuke?

Perhaps it was because they hadn’t seen each other for a long time.

Or maybe it was because he had been busy dealing with the affairs of the Morgan Clan, and hadn’t had a full meal.

So, as soon as Lu Li returned, he launched a fierce offensive on Liu Kexin, wanting to seize the opportunity to take a bite.

Although Liu Kexin was still hesitant, Lu Li respected her wishes, but couldn’t help but collect some interest.

”Why are you putting your hand in there?”

”The air conditioning is a bit low, it’s cold.”

”Phooey, that’s all nonsense, stop messing around and let me get up.”

”Hey, we haven’t seen each other for more than ten days, aren’t you going to keep me company?”

”Of course I’ll keep you company, but let me get up, okay?”

Lu Li had to stop his hands from wandering and let Liu Kexin sit up.

Liu Kexin’s clothes were wrinkled all over.

She reached behind to button up and said irritably, ”Can you not be so eager? As soon as you come back, you wrinkle all the clothes and pants I’ve ironed.”

Lu Li lay on his side, propping his chin, looking at the disheveled Liu Kexin, ”Hey, did you get up just to fix your clothes?”

”I haven’t had breakfast yet, okay?”

Liu Kexin rolled her eyes, got out of bed, stepped into her slippers, and reached to buckle her belt, ”Let’s go down for breakfast first, okay?”

Lu Li couldn’t help but break into a sweat.

It turned out that Liu Kexin was hungry.

After all, having undergone four deep evolutions, he didn’t need to eat.

He could absorb energy from the outside world to maintain his body’s operations.

But Liu Kexin was an ordinary person and couldn’t go without food.

He could only say, ”Alright.”

Saying this, Lu Li stood up.

Holding Liu Kexin’s hand, he walked outside.

While walking, he was still thinking about the speed increase when he flew back.

Or rather, matters related to evolution.

In the past, each deep evolution happened in at most fourteen or fifteen days, but this time it seemed slightly longer.

Lu Li calculated the days, after his fourth deep evolution, he stayed in the country for about a week, and then spent about another ten days dealing with the Morgan Clan’s affairs.

All together, it had been sixteen or seventeen days.

Based on previous experiences, he should be nearing the next deep evolution.

This time, it was different.

Lu Li didn’t feel any sense of an impending deep evolution, as if it needed a few more days of settling.

However, it wasn’t without gains.

At least, during this period, he had become much stronger.

The most direct measure was the flight speed when his Biological Force Field was activated.

After completing the fourth deep evolution, he hadn’t tested his speed, but after six or seven days, on the way to Old Ugly, Lu Li did a test, and the speed reached over six Mach.

Then, during his four or five days in Ugly Country, he had an evolution of considerable magnitude, increasing his flight speed to around twelve point six five Mach.

Finally, during his four or five days in Niger, on the return trip, his flight speed had rocketed to around twenty-one Mach.

From these three speed increases, his current power was at least three to four times stronger than when he had just completed his fourth deep evolution.

”The closer I get to each deep evolution, my progress seems to slow down more and more.”

Lu Li and Liu Kexin reached the top of the stairs, his mind still analyzing, ”During the days from going to Old Ugly and leaving there, I almost doubled my strength, but over a similar time in Niger, it didn’t grow by a full double. Based on flight speed, I grew by about zero point six six times.”

Could it be... if I grow another zero point three four times, I’ll be nearing the fifth deep evolution?

Or will it require even more improvement?

If an increase of zero point three four times is enough, then at most it would stretch another three or four days, maybe just a day or two at the least.

If more improvement is needed, then Lu Li’s confidence wavers.

”This isn’t something I can control, I’ll let it unfold naturally.”

Lu Li decided not to fret anymore.

Instead, he expanded his field to the maximum.

He wanted to see if the level of enhancement matched his assumptions.

In the next moment, the field spread out suddenly, covering a vast area.

Lu Li was surprised to find that the coverage radius now surpassed Tai Province, faintly touching Salt City.

”Hmm?” He calculated, ”The direct distance from here to Tai Province is about one hundred sixty kilometers, and based on my field range when I went to Niger, it should only reach that far, but now I’ve covered part of Salt City’s territory, which is clearly over two hundred kilometers.”

Lu Li used his ”omniscience in the area” ability to find a nearby map and measure it.

The final conclusion was that his field coverage radius had reached about two hundred sixty-five kilometers.

This improvement is almost consistent with the increase in flight speed.

In other words, his previous judgment of being zero point six six times stronger than when at Old Ugly was correct.

Therefore, there was no need to judge in other aspects, everything should have been enhanced by zero point six six times compared to before.

Lu Li had a hunch.

If he could reach double the strength of when he was at Old Ugly, he should be nearing the fifth deep evolution.

Though this was just his own judgment, his intuition assured him it was unlikely to be wrong by much.

Nearing the next deep evolution should be a joyful thing.

But at this moment, Lu Li couldn’t help but furrow his brows.

”When I underwent the fourth deep evolution, I absorbed nearly half a province’s daily power consumption. If I want to enter the fifth deep evolution, how enormous must the required energy be?”

Lu Li figured that meeting the energy requirement for his fifth deep evolution on Earth should be feasible.

However, to truly lend a hand, it might require several provinces to cut power for a day.

Actually, having several provinces cut power for a day is possible.

But a single power plant’s power output wouldn’t be enough.

I can’t absorb energy across regions.

”Looks like I have to find a place with plenty of energy to absorb it.”

Just as Lu Li came downstairs, he couldn’t help but look up at the sky, ”For example, going to space.”

The free energy in space is certainly richer compared to Earth.

Speaking of nothing else.

Just take sunlight for instance.

When it passes through Earth’s atmosphere, it loses about fifty percent of its energy.

And that’s just sunlight. What about other free energy, like various cosmic radiations?

With this in mind, Lu Li decided to head to space once he evolved enough to reach the first cosmic speed and see if he could gather more energy.

...

Downstairs, breakfast was already on the table.

Aunt Huang, who had just finished her chores, was quite surprised to see Lu Li. ”Oh, Mr. Lu, I haven’t seen you in days. Have you been on a trip?”

Lu Li held Liu Kexin’s hand and sat down next to the dining table, smiling as he responded, ”Yeah, first to the Ugly Country, then to Africa.”

”Ugly Country? Africa?” Aunt Huang seemed to have recalled something, ”Those places aren’t very safe. I heard from my son that there was a huge explosion in the Ugly Country a few days ago, something about millions... millions of what now? And in Africa, too, there’s been some unrest. The news is urging people not to travel to... what was the name of that country again?”

Upon hearing this, Liu Kexin instinctively glanced at Lu Li’s face.

Clearly, she knew much more than Aunt Huang.

Lu Li remained calm, casually saying, ”Yeah, it was quite dangerous, but didn’t I come back safe and sound? Hey, maybe I’ll just avoid those places in the future.”

Aunt Huang replied with concern, ”Yes, yes, let’s not go to such dangerous places anymore.”

After a brief chat, Aunt Huang turned to the kitchen to wash the pan.

Soon, only two people were left in the living room.

Liu Kexin leaned towards Lu Li and whispered, ”Look at you, wherever you go, chaos follows. You’re such a troublemaker.”

Lu Li replied with a cheeky grin, ”But haven’t I troubled you yet? Hey, have you thought it over, when can I trouble you?”

Liu Kexin blushed slightly, ”Let me think it through, we’re having breakfast right now.”

Lu Li didn’t rush, ”Alright, let’s finish breakfast first.”

Although he didn’t need to eat, he hadn’t eaten much during his days in Africa. Still, the habit of eating had been with him for over twenty years, and he couldn’t just quit it.

The breakfast wasn’t particularly lavish.

Just millet porridge and a few pickled side dishes.

Like jellyfish, salted melon with stir-fried edamame, and so on.

But after many days without home food, Lu Li found himself with a good appetite.

Liu Kexin picked up her chopsticks, which she hadn’t used yet, and gave Lu Li some jellyfish, ”This jellyfish from Yangkou Port is quite delicious, try it.”

Lu Li took a bite, ”Hmm, it really is quite tasty.”

Liu Kexin asked with concern, ”What do you want for lunch? I can ask Aunt Huang to prepare it.”

Lu Li drank the millet porridge and swallowed it, ”I’m not picky about food, as long as I have your company.”

Speaking of this, Liu Kexin seemed to have thought of something.

She put down her chopsticks and took out her phone, ”I’ll make a call to take the day off first.”

Lu Li said, ”Okay.”

After a while, Liu Kexin finished the call and continued her breakfast.

”Did you encounter any danger on this trip?”

”What danger could there be for me? Look, I’m right here safe and sound.”

”But I heard from my dad that something very terrifying happened in Niger.”

”Indeed, something very terrifying did happen. I’ll tell you all about it after breakfast.”

”Alright, tell me all about it later. I’ve been worried sick these days, afraid something would happen to you out there. Lu Li, don’t mind my nagging, I know you’re capable, but no matter how capable you are, with today’s advanced technology, if someone bombs you with a nuclear weapon or something, can you be okay?”

Liu Kexin was rambling on.

Lu Li didn’t find it annoying at all; instead, he felt warm inside.

Having someone care about you feels wonderful.

Breakfast ended shortly after.

Liu Kexin suddenly approached with a napkin, giggling, ”Look at you, like a little kid, got food all over your face. Don’t move, let me clean it off for you.”

Lu Li had long noticed, and was just about to wipe it off himself.

Seeing his girlfriend taking the initiative to clean him, he stopped.

Liu Kexin gently wiped off the grain of rice and also wiped away the rice soup around Lu Li’s lips.

Feeling her tenderness, Lu Li instinctively grabbed her hand, ”Kexin, it’s so good to have you.”

Liu Kexin blinked, ”Why do I feel like you’re not being honest with that statement?”

Lu Li said speechlessly, ”It’s what I truly feel, okay? You’re looking at me with prejudice, through colored glasses.”

Liu Kexin snorted, ”Who told you to act so eager the moment you got back? It’s normal for me to have a prejudice against you.”

Saying this, she gently touched Lu Li’s T-shirt, ”Your clothes are so dirty; let’s go out, and I’ll buy you some new clothes.”

This time going to Niger for several days, Lu Li didn’t bring any clothes at all, so it’s normal that he’s a bit dirty.

The seasons are about to change to fall; although he’s not afraid of the cold, he can’t wear suits anymore; that’s too quirky. He does need some new clothes.

Lu Li said, ”Okay, let’s see what taste of clothes my wife picks for me.”

”Who’s your wife? We’re not married yet.” Liu Kexin blushed, pulled her hand back, and went to get her phone, ”Do you want to take a shower first, then we’ll go out t...”

Before she could finish speaking, her voice stopped abruptly.

She suddenly lifted her head and, with a shocked expression in her eyes, looked at Lu Li, gasping, and stammered, ”Lu... Lu Li, did you really get hit by a nuclear explosion this time out... out?”

Oh no.

No need to say more; it’s obvious.

It must have been reported on the news.

Lu Li wasn’t surprised at all.

He was somewhat curious about the extent of this coverage.
