Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1344: Chapter 78: Myth Shattered (Part 3)

Faset tilted his head, the intense pain on his face extending to the roots of his ears. His skin was swollen and red due to congestion, and his eyes, filled with shame and anger, had turned bright red.

It was chaotic around him, his officers had long lost their previous composure, and with a sudden noise, they surrounded the bandit army major general. Meanwhile, the Feiyang guards also quickly rushed over.

However, though their movements were swift, the bandit army’s actions were even swifter. Almost at the same time the bandit army major general slapped Faset’s face, more than a hundred bandit soldiers had already surged forward, and over a dozen Green Mechas swiftly moved in, encircling Faset, a few officers beside him, and more than twenty Feiyang soldiers.

Looking at the bandit army major general who was coldly staring at him, and at the Mecha behind him slightly leaning forward, Faset had no doubt that if his subordinates showed any aggressive behavior, these Mechas would crush them like stepping on mice.

Spitting out a mouthful of blood-streaked saliva, Faset, his mind racing, gently waved his hand at his officers and soldiers.

It took almost all his strength before his nearby officers could restrain their outrage and halted. They remained alert, glaring at the bandit soldiers and Mechas surrounding them, while glaring angrily at the bandit army major general in front of them.

Then, a piercing alarm sounded at the 31st Army Base. The Feiyang soldiers on the guard tower, after seeing Faset struck, quickly sounded the alarm. The originally silent 31st Army Base suddenly became unbelievably noisy. Countless soldiers poured out of the barracks, numerous officers ran out of the office building, and on the helipad, one black Divine Mecha and one silver Long Blade were activated. The roar of engines, the sound of Mechas running, the alarm, and the officers’ orders were deafening.

”You made a mistake,” Faset pulled out a white handkerchief, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and suddenly smiled, ”Major General Rashid, your military career ends here. When you’re arrested, you’ll understand what kind of price you’ll pay for your recklessness!”

Outside the base, on tall buildings, officers from various countries were silent. They dumbfoundedly watched the dark, surging Mechas in the base, watched the crowd centered around Faset and the bandit army’s First Division Commander Rashid, and watched as a bandit army armored group quickly converged towards the base’s gate through several blocks outside the base.

When the voice collecting device transmitted Faset’s voice with a 0.5-second delay, all the officers couldn’t help but feel a bone-chilling coldness.

They shivered at the rash actions of the bandit army major general and at Faset’s words. It was clear that with this slap, there was no room for maneuver between the two sides. Sparring, contesting, drills... all pretexts had been stripped away. This slap sounded the bell of battle between the bandit army and the 31st Army.

Looking at the Mechas moving between both sides, all optimism had been thrown to the winds. What remained was the chilling realization of the unending conflict between the two sides, once comrades in the alliance forces.

In any country’s military, assaulting an officer is a serious crime.

Because of the unique organizational nature of the military and its special mission, military discipline is the foundation of a military’s existence. For soldiers, obeying orders is their paramount duty. Regardless of how justified the reason, disobeying an officer’s orders and will is never permissible, let alone assaulting an officer.

Although the bandit army and the 31st Army didn’t belong to the same country, they were both forces under the Alliance Command Center, in name and in current organizational structure, part of the same system. Even if Faset couldn’t directly command Rashid, both weren’t directly subordinate, nevertheless, he was still Rashid’s superior.

This slap from Rashid, though it felt satisfying, as long as the 31st Army defeated the bandit army on the spot and arrested Rashid, even Hastings probably wouldn’t be able to absolve him. As the victor, Faset would control the narrative, and the captured bandit army would become fish on the chopping block, at his mercy.

This is the rule within the military: what seems right is also wrong, what seems wrong is also right. The one with the bigger fist is right.

The two sides are competing within the permitted boundaries. Behind Faset in the base, four assembled armored divisions, with over twenty thousand tenth-generation or higher Feiyang Mechas, are his reasoning! No matter how many legendary skilled Mech Knights the bandit army might have, they are, after all, not regular soldiers. Their lax discipline will lead them to collapse under the strong offensive of the 31st Army.

”Impulsive, too impulsive!” Tatania Major General stomped her foot.

The officers looked at each other, also filled with worry.

Everyone had initially thought that the numerically inferior bandit army would employ more skillful tactics like provocation, competition, small-scale exercises, to leverage their legendary Mechanical Gods against the enemy, but unexpectedly, their division commander went up and slapped. Directly declaring war.

This was no different from seeking death, not only were they unjustified in reason, they were also at a strategic disadvantage.

The next moment, the swarming Mechas of the 31st Army could completely overwhelm the small armored group gathered at the gate.

In the silence, on the screen, the bandit army First Division Major General Rashid’s indifferent face, lips slightly parted, and when the 0.5-second collection and recognition delay brought the voice to everyone’s ears, they saw Rashid suddenly kick, fiercely hitting Faset’s abdomen.

Arriving fashionably late was a word full of mockery.

”Idiot!”

This word, like sounding the horn of a charge, drove over a hundred bandit soldiers to rush forward.

The frontmost bandit soldiers moved like lightning, punching the Feiyang guards before they could react. With a spray of blood, a few guards fell as if responding to a command. Their bodies hadn’t yet hit the ground when bandit soldiers were already passing by, like tigers entering a flock of sheep, rushing into the group of Feiyang officers.

Fists, flying kicks, outside the base gate it was as if a chaotic bloody flower bloomed instantly, the dull thuds of body impacts and piercing sounds of bone fracture resounding together. The group of Feiyang officers and guards, caught off guard by the sudden assault, was in complete disarray. They only had time to shield their vital spots with their hands, their entire bodies curling under the barrage of punches.

Just one glance, and the officers from various countries watching from tall buildings knew these fierce bandit soldiers were definitely not ordinary. Their actions were clean and ruthless, their cooperation seamless, their knowledge of key points on the human body extremely precise. With each punch, they aimed for the most painful places. Clearly, these were special soldiers who’d been through the grind on the battlefield for years.

They weren’t trying to kill the Feiyang, they just wanted to make their opponents howl in unbearable pain!

If the soldiers of the 31st Army are well-trained, brave, and cold-blooded hounds, then these bandit soldiers are a pack of wolves surviving in the most brutal environments, fighting the fiercest enemies.

The officers of various countries held their breath at this moment. They suddenly realized how wrong they were in their estimation of these seemingly lax bandit soldiers. No matter the final outcome of this battle, they are definitely not people that ordinary individuals can provoke. When they bare their terrifying fangs, even lions will feel fear!

A bandit soldier punched a Lieutenant Colonel of the 31st Army squarely in the diaphragm, this punch directly knocked the Feiyang Lieutenant Colonel out of breath. But the agony did not end there; the bandit soldier grabbed his arm, with his middle finger sticking out, and punched his armpit. A heaven-shaking wail pierced the skies.

In the wail was a chilling pain. Even those with hearts of stone would cover their ears when hearing it.

Yet this did not earn the bandit soldier even a shred of pity. As if dissatisfied with the Lieutenant Colonel’s howls, the soldier expressionlessly continued to punch the Lieutenant Colonel, each blow not enough to be fatal, but with enough time in between for the screams to burst forth freely.

In less than a few seconds, the sound had already changed pitch.

Aside from Faset, who was still desperately holding out under the protection of a few officers and soldiers, around him, more than a dozen 31st Army officers and soldiers were all emitting the same cries of agony.

Watching that expressionless bandit soldier, officers from various countries were chilled to the bone. This ruthless guy was definitely a veteran who narrowly escaped death many times on the battlefield; this kind of calm cannot simply be trained. Behind him, the heavy gate of the base had already opened, and a flood of Feiyang Mecha was desperately rushing towards the gate. Yet the bandit soldier still leisurely and methodically battered the Feiyang Lieutenant Colonel at a consistent pace.

Seeing that the Feiyang Mecha inside the base had already reached the gate, suddenly, a green figure appeared in the screen. Instantly, the entire view aimed at the base gate was overwhelmed by a sea of green.

The officers saw, the Bandit Army Mecha, which had been quietly standing at the base gate, began to run.

The speed of their launch wasn’t fast and did not launch a full-out charge like the Feiyang Mecha. The formation in a Triangle Attack Formation started with the first batch of Mecha, then the second batch activated at a relatively wide interval, followed by the third and fourth. Their movements were very light, with a charming rhythm.

After two seconds of launch, the first batch of Mecha at the tip of the Triangle Attack Formation began accelerating. Their running frequency changed from gentle rain and breeze to a raging storm. Their speed, amid the roaring engines, became faster and faster, and finally, they resembled bolts of lightning shooting straight across the ground.

The base gate was unable to contain the increasing number of green Mecha from behind.

Just as everyone worried that the bandit army’s Triangle Attack Formation would become disorganized due to the width of the base gate, they suddenly noticed the Mecha on the two wings of the triangular formation suddenly leapt when they rushed straight to the high walls of the base. Some flipped in mid-air, some tapped with their feet on the thick walls continuously, some launched themselves with their hands, or shot up like missiles... Hundreds of Mecha, like agile green monkeys, the high walls of the base didn’t even slow them down a bit.

When they landed, they almost simultaneously began to accelerate their charge. The powerful burst of energy saw them darting forward like rockets at second-level acceleration. And terrifyingly, they were perfectly synchronized with their comrades pushing through from the base gate center.

The Green Mecha Group charged towards the Black Mecha Group.

The scene before them left everyone upstairs unable to believe their eyes. From these Green Mechas, every seasoned officer saw a control technique they found unbelievable, and a madness they found inexplicable.

Suddenly, there was a tremendous clamor from the distant buildings. Then the officers’ phones began ringing one after another. After answering the calls, all the officers just looked at each other in dismay.

No need to ask, they knew the terrifying news they must have received over the phone.....

The bandit army’s four regiments simultaneously launched attacks on the four gates of the 31st Army Base. The torrent of green Mecha had already rolled into the base.

Boom......

Downstairs, a loud crash was heard, and on the screen, the places the Green Mecha passed by were in utter chaos.

A clap of thunder rose from the ground.

”Kill!”
