Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1321: Chapter 66: Lofty Mountains and Steep Ridges (10)

”You little brat, what are you doing here?!” Fatty jumped with anxiety, lowering his voice, ”Listen, go back quickly, your dad and the uncles are just playing, it’s fine, they’ll come find you soon.”

”Dad..... boo..... dad!” The little kid clung tightly to Fatty’s leg.

”Go, go.” Fatty’s lowered voice was incomparably mournful.

”I’m not going,” the little kid wailed, crying loudly.

”Haha.....” Fatty felt the amused gaze of General Vego, raised his head and forced a servile smile, ”General, we’re just talking, this kid’s dad is my friend, long dead.”

With an expressionless face, General Vego suddenly reached out, grabbed the little kid by the collar, and lifted him up.

Fatty’s face changed, he hurriedly said, ”Don’t....” His voice abruptly stopped. He just looked at General Vego with a complex gaze.

”Pretty boy.....” General Vego held the little kid, facing him, and smiled after a glance.

”Put me down, boo, put me down....” The little kid struggled desperately, his body just hung down, his grimy little face looking as pitiable as a little flower cat.

”Tell me your name, and I’ll put you down.” General Vego turned his gaze back to Fatty, speaking without turning his head.

”Put me down.....” The little kid struggled desperately, crying stubbornly, completely ignoring General Vego’s question.

”You say he’s not your son,” General Vego clearly had no interest in tangling with an utterly clueless child, he raised his eyebrows at Fatty, smiling. However, this smile appeared unusually cold.

”Gen..... General...” Fatty struggled, his eyes flickering, the muscle on his face twitching.

General Vego’s smile grew increasingly cold, he extended a hand, and a soldier beside him drew an energy pistol from his waist, ready to hand it to him.

Seeing the gun, Fatty’s face completely changed. Hesitation and struggle turned into fear and pleading in an instant, he exclaimed, ”Yes, he’s my son, he’s my son!”

The little kid in General Vego’s hands struggled even harder, flailing his short arms and legs, crying out, ”Let go of my dad, let go of my dad.....”

General Vego took the gun, surprisingly agreeing to the little kid’s request, he gestured to the Jiepeng soldiers beside Fatty, ”Let him go.”

The soldiers cautiously released Fatty, but the muzzle remained tightly aimed at him. Any slight movement from him and they would immediately fire, even if not fatal, they would first disable his limbs.

Released, Fatty looked dumbly at General Vego, wanting to step forward but simply stood there.

”General Vego...” Fatty finally broke down, staring intently at the little kid, his eyes full of tearful pain, incoherently pleading, ”This is our matter, it has nothing to do with the child. Please, let him go. I’ll do whatever you want, just let my son go, he’s just a child.”

In the end, Fatty’s emotions completely lost control, tears and snot falling together.

”I’m begging you, please, please!!!”

General Vego’s hand loosened, and the little kid fell to the ground with a thud.

Ignoring the soldiers’ guns, Fatty suddenly lunged forward and hugged the little kid tightly. The little kid also wrapped his arms around Fatty’s neck, crying and climbing up...

”Little Treasure....”

”Dad...”

The two Fatty’s looked at each other tenderly, hugging tightly and crying out loud.

In front of the TV, a silence fell. The audience stood silently, many turning their heads away, unable to bear watching any longer.

No one expected this rescue to turn out this way. The Red Armored Forces were surrounded. That chubby guy, incredibly cowardly, chose to surrender. Thinking about the sycophantic face he had when surrendering, his craven, fear-of-death expression, everyone wished to punch that fat face.

However, even if they resented Fatty’s surrender face, they couldn’t help but sympathize with the father-son pair’s plight.

That little boy, only three or four years old!

And some women, the moment the little boy appeared, had already their hearts tied to this cute little boy. They covered their mouths, tears rolling down like rain, eyes wide open, staring unblinkingly at the kitten-like boy. They wished they could rush into the TV and cuddle the boy in their arms.

”Little Treasure.....”

”Dad....”

Fatty released the little kid, tears flowing as he patted his head, wiped away his tears.

Father and son looked at each other tenderly again, hugging tightly, as if holding the world’s most precious treasure, unwilling to let go even for a moment.

In the frontline command center, Li Cunxin and others, just picked up by Transport Ship on the Hermo Carrier, looked at the screen with somber expressions. At that moment, no one knew exactly what they felt inside.

Felix sat dejectedly in his chair, covering his face with his hand. Su Fei had long been crying, tears falling like rain.

That little boy had once been held in his arms. But now, he was on the battlefield, trapped with all the warriors from the Suicide Camp.

Tears blurred her eyes, unable to bear watching any longer, Su Fei turned her head....

Behind her, Milan and Boswell met her gaze, both clutching their heads in pain. Their faces lacked any trace of grief, instead displaying a mix of headache-inducing awkwardness, both amusing and exasperating.

-------

At the Allied Command Center, the generals looked dejectedly at the virtual screen.

The turn of events had exceeded everyone’s imagination. They originally thought that it would either be a tragic elegy or an inspiring victorious escape. But now....

Hastings stared in shock at the little kid on the screen, quietly asking, ”Maggie..... is it the one....”

Margaret nodded, biting her lip hard, burying her flushed face into her arm.

In the corner of the room, Bernadotte hid from everyone’s sight, his face ashen... The biggest mistake of his life was turning this damned Fatty into a Federation Hero!

This old face was completely disgraced by Fatty!

On the screen, the two fatties were still hugging their heads and crying, desperately playing out the deep father-son bond.

————————————————

”General Vego,” Fatty let go of the little kid, who was crying his heart out and was about to faint, and pleaded to Vego, ”Can you let my son....”

”If you cooperate, he will be fine.” Vego calmly interrupted Fatty.

This scene was something Vego hadn’t expected. However, regardless of the deep bond between this Fatty and his son, it had nothing to do with him.

Three days ago, it was this Fatty leading this troop that wiped out an entire Special Forces Camp under his command, leading him to make a strategic mistake. For the past three days, every time he thought of the wrong turn at the crossroads of fate and everything Fatty had done, it felt like living in hell.

The pain of such an ordeal can never be understood by those who haven’t experienced it.

The irreversible regret is the most painful emotion in life.

At this moment, watching the father and son in front of him, seeing the Fei Alliance Armored Forces landing around, yet not daring to make a move, and the fighters circling in the sky, Vego felt only the joy and satisfaction of victory.

Everything was within his grasp!

Just by looking at the bond between Fatty and his son, it was clear that Fatty would do anything for the boy. This was far better than just capturing him alone.

No ropes were needed, no persuasion necessary; just pointing a gun at the little boy’s head, and this Fatty would pay any price without hesitation.

Vego checked the time; there could be no more delays.

”Major General Tian,” Vego said politely, ”Perhaps you should contact your command center.....”

Fatty was stunned, then nodded frantically, appeasing, ”I’ll contact them immediately, immediately... I’ll make them leave, make them all leave. They will listen to me, they will definitely listen to me.”

Vego nodded, glancing at the tense red Mecha Group still in a standoff with the nearby Jiepeng Mecha, his eyes squinted, ”However, I think before that, you should have your warriors deactivate combat mode and surrender.”

”Okay, okay,” Fatty nodded quickly, then turned and shouted, ”All engines off, disengage combat mode. Surrender, we surrender.”

However, Fatty’s shout didn’t receive any response from the red Mecha Group.

Not only that, but the uneasy movements of several red Mechas upon hearing Fatty’s shout almost triggered an attack from the surrounding Jiepeng Mecha. The tense atmosphere instead intensified. Outside, the Chuckna Mecha swarmed, and after a moment of chaos in the center, instinctively adopted an attack stance.

The entire battlefield, like a pond rippled by a stone, had its tension suddenly heightened by the chain reaction of disturbances.

This unexpected scene startled Vego into a cold sweat.

”General.....” Fatty was clearly startled as well, quickly stepping back two steps while clutching the sobbing little kid, saying fearfully to Vego, ”.... These warriors are all Chuckna people, I am only temporarily leading them. They won’t accept a forced surrender order, I need to contact the command center first....”

He said this while sheepishly glancing at the vigilant Jiepeng soldiers around, hesitantly pointing at the nearby Command Mecha, ”Can I use the Command Mecha’s electronic communication system....”

Vego nodded without hesitation. With a wave, he ordered the Command Mecha’s hatch to open. Several armed warriors entered the Mecha on his cue, taking guard positions.

Watching Fatty inch towards the Command Mecha with the nearly lifeless little boy, Vego followed closely behind.

He wouldn’t allow Fatty to pilot other Mechas, but with the Command Mecha being impossible for one person to operate, he wasn’t concerned. In the Command Mecha’s spacious cabin, facing several energy guns’ muzzles, not even a deity would dare to act rashly. Moreover, the child in Fatty’s arms was his shackle!

Upon entering the Mecha, Vego suddenly noticed the boy on Fatty’s shoulder blink at him mischievously.

”Idiot!”
