Counterfeit Hero

The news that the commander of the 3rd Battalion had broken through the Commerce Alliance’s defenses came at the control console of the Command Mecha.

Those buildings that formed the firepower network had been completely destroyed. The ground’s makeshift fortifications couldn’t stop the 3rd Battalion’s advance at all. The mercenary army recruited by the Commerce Alliance was retreating steadily. Their limited private mechas had already turned into burning wreckage — against hundreds of[Fire Element]mechas, without energy shields, only equipped with old-fashioned projectile cannons, these private mechas were no match.

The infantry regiment had already followed up, clearing the remaining enemies in the buildings on both sides of the streets, and gradually advancing towards the Commerce Alliance’s headquarters. Kodell heard that the headquarters had a lot of money stored up.

He was calculating, that after capturing the place, he could get more energy cannons and energy for equipping mechas in the first transaction between the Northern Alliance and Suss in a few days. The Northern Alliance had already emptied their foundations for today. Selwal even directly ordered the looting of the occupied territories.

Keeping an army requires money, and especially these mechas are expensive.

A cold smile appeared on Kodell’s face; the Blood Shadow Mecha Group was still consuming combat supplies on the resource highway without any fight, and he was about to occupy the entire Puluo Town, bringing the first military fund to the Northern Alliance. Hard work paid off, and in this deal with the Western Alliance, Selwal had no reason not to give him what he deserved. Perhaps after this war, his First Armored Assault Group would rise above the Blood Shadow Mecha Group as the main force mecha group through victory after victory!

The Free World, sealed off for thousands of years, would become unrecognizable amidst the incoming tide of weaponry. Whoever obtains the first batch of military equipment would stand at the pinnacle!

The Blood-colored Mercenary Army’s First Armored Assault Group’s 3rd Battalion had already completely invaded the core district of the Commerce Alliance’s defense area.

The central park, forest park, skyscrapers, parking lots, warehouses, malls, small cargo stations, passenger centers, ground transit ports — every place was embroiled in fierce firefights.

The Commerce Alliance’s guard team and the mercenary army they hired were fighting with all their might. Other than resisting, there was no other way. In this world, everyone knew that failure meant losing everything. Even if they wanted to surrender now, it was impossible; those cold mechas had no intention of taking prisoners. Many people saw with their own eyes those who raised their hands in surrender being killed without hesitation.

On the firefighting streets, corpses were everywhere. Many still kept their hands raised high.

Several buildings were ablaze with raging fire. Under the illumination of the flames, fiery red mechas were continually splitting and encircling the Commerce Alliance’s armed forces along the streets. No one could stop them. Their swift movements and coordinated actions, even by Free World’s standards, were considered highly skillful in mecha control technology.

Especially the mixed cannons equipped on these mechas, which were completely beyond the capabilities of ordinary private mechas. The close combat fighting style largely used by private mechas was extremely ineffective against these mechas. Even if they could dodge most of the bullets with their movement techniques, they couldn’t withstand more than two shots without energy shields and military armor. In collective fire coverage, such defenses were no different from being naked.

The 3rd Battalion’s three companies had already dispersed; besides the First Company continuing to advance along the main road, the other two companies were divided into platoons, sweeping all living forces in sight as they charged forward recklessly. Mechas cleared the path in front, firing at any building suspected of hiding enemies. The infantry behind swaggered along, openly shooting at any target, demonstrating their destructive power.

No survivors left.

Kodell’s principle had become the principle of the entire First Armored Assault Group.

These violent mechas swept through the entire combat zone. Everyone who appeared before them faced only death, the only difference being whether they were shredded by onboard machine guns or blasted into bloody chunks by a cannon shot.

After thirty minutes of fighting, the Commerce Alliance, having lost three district front-line positions, had completely collapsed.

Dozens of major members of the Commerce Alliance were desperately fleeing under the cover of the guard team. Those guard soldiers and mercenaries who initially resisted with gunfire were now dropping their weapons and running for their lives. At this moment, nothing else mattered. Facing those cold and ruthless enemies, the only way out was to get far away.

The fleeing crowd rushed westward from the streets and alleys towards the spindle-shaped Puluo Town’s one end, already surrounded by those butcher-like red mechas. If they didn’t want to charge at the enemy or jump into Luoye Lake, the only escape route was towards Puluo First Avenue.

The panicked crowd fled desperately, but except for a few mechas and flying cars, most people were on foot, unable to outrun the pursuing red mechas.

Years of harsh training, long stints locked in bases’ dull boredom, and Kodell’s deliberate cultivation of aggression had turned these mechanical warriors into brutal beasts just released from their cages. And when these beasts savored the thrill of murder amidst the blood, they lost their sanity.

Blood flowed in rivers.

The machine gun fire lines tore flesh, and repeated violent explosions devoured lives. From east to west, ten districts were littered with corpses. The fleeing people rushed towards First Avenue, and the fastest mechas and flying cars carrying Commerce Alliance leaders reached Echo Street first — here, was the bandit army’s defense line.

When the red mechas surged towards Echo Street, they saw people crossing the defense line continuously with the bandit army’s tacit approval. There were also dozens of[Heng Dao]strangely parked at the street entrance.

Although every member of the Blood-colored Mercenary Army’s First Armored Assault Group recognized these strange mechas akin to[Fallen Angels]as their ultimate target, without Kodell’s orders, they wouldn’t attack the bandit army. However, this didn’t stop them from continuing to chase their prey.

A red[Fire Element]mecha grabbed a Commerce Alliance guard soldier and crushed him to death. Dragging the corpse along the street, it even walked up to the bandit army’s mecha defense line. It arrogantly gazed at the dumbfounded[Heng Dao]mechas, seemingly frozen in shock, then threw the mutilated corpse in front of their defense line and walked away swaggering.

Not far away, dozens of[Fire Element]mechas watched their companion’s performance with amused interest.

In their eyes, these mechas without visible energy cannon ports, missile launchers, or energy shields, only carrying a crescent-shaped armor-piercing axe on their right arm and a strange disc on their left, were just the next prey. Since Kodell received the order, the fate of these mechas was sealed.

They didn’t believe there were any enemies on this planet capable of opposing them.

The First Battalion should have already completed the encirclement to the west of Puluo Town.

These mechas standing here pretending to be calm were awaiting a bloody massacre.

The taunting red[Fire Element]walked back smugly.

His companion’s thumbs up and the laughing infantry gave him a perverse thrill.

But he soon noticed that his companions seemed frozen in place, and the smiles on the infantry faces instantly stiffened and quickly turned into fear.

A white ball of light erupted from the street center, followed by a series of deafening explosions.

The light spread in all directions, with a bright red flame at its center. Black smoke billowed, and the dust from the explosion covered the sky.

The smug red mecha had completely vanished.

Forty energy bullets had simultaneously hit it.

The[Heng Dao]mechas ignored all other red mechas and, in full view, they all opened their energy cannon armors, casually fired a volley.

”Stupid!”
