Counterfeit Hero

Amid the crisscrossing energy cannon light clusters, one bad news after another appeared on the Kars Lily.

Another violent jolt rocked the battleship as two consecutive energy cannon shots hit the left side. Although it was just small-caliber rotating turret shells, it still posed a significant burden on the already fragile energy shield.

This was the most dangerous moment in Leonid’s life. He wasn’t afraid of dying, but he feared that his death here would halt Flavio’s journey!

If that happened, even in death, Leonid would never forgive himself.

”How much longer for the main cannon to charge?” Blue veins pulsed on Leonid’s forehead like writhing worms.

”Four minutes!”

”Cancel main cannon charging, distribute full power to the shield and main propulsion, port rudder 2700 marks, charge through!” Leonid decided to go all out. If they didn’t accelerate away from here, the entire fleet would be thrown into a crisis because of his earlier pursuit order.

”Captain! The Blue Rose is charging ahead!” The observer at the main control station suddenly shouted.

”What?!” Leonid jumped up, but Vice President Flavio was even faster, the short old man took a swift step, rushing to the main control station.

”They’re flashing a light signal! They want us to starboard 1900 marks, and break away at full speed.”

”1900 marks? They want to cut in front of us?”

”They’re accelerating! Oh, heavens!”

Under the gaze of hundreds of officers and soldiers on the Kars Lily, the Blue Rose, which had always been behind them and in the best position to retreat from the battlefield, suddenly accelerated. With a massive orange-red jet stream at the rear, the missile-like battleship, in a highspirited stance, leapt over the left side of the Kars Lily, forcibly wedging itself in front of the pirate fleet.

”The Blue Rose signal… get the hell out, see you in Chuckna.” The observer suddenly burst into tears.

”Starboard 1900 marks...” Leonid slumped into his chair.

The entire main control room was dead silent.

”Starboard 1900 marks.” The main control pilot gritted his teeth and activated the steering propulsion. Under the effect of the two bow thrusters, the Kars Lily precisely turned to the 1900 marks position.

The Blue Rose was right behind them. This sister ship of the Kars Lily was using its body to block the tidal onslaught of the pirate fleet. The blue energy shield of the ship was flashing, and every energy cannon on the ship was firing.

”Accelerate and break away!” The order was given by Vice President Flavio. The old man covered his face with trembling hands.

Standing behind the command platform, Boswell’s mouth opened as if to say something. But in the end, no sound came out, his legs went weak, and he collapsed on the command platform.

”Fatty... is still on that battleship.”

The steering thruster shut down... the main propulsion nozzle went fully open... power distribution went full...

In that one second of stillness just before the propulsion thrusters burst forth, everyone on the Kars Lily stared blankly at the virtual screen, at the ship outside the window, that great ship standing like a breakwater in the enemy swarm.

The nozzle suddenly flared, blue ion jet stream turned orange-red...

Seconds later, the Blue Rose had become a small dot. Only the crisscrossing energy cannon light was faintly visible.

......

”Cruisers stay behind, everyone else accelerate and catch up with me!” Baolsen roared, tearing open the tightly fastened collar of his uniform. He never expected that with the fleet so close to the Leray Fleet, the prey in their grasp would escape!

That damn Leray Destroyer, didn’t they see that in front of them, the main cannons of three Binart Empire Raging Stream-class Destroyers and a Desic North Star-class cruiser had already finished charging? Under such intimidation, they still dared to position themselves in the center of the navigation path!

Baolsen could only order the pursuit!

If this operation failed, he couldn’t imagine what kind of punishment he would receive! The words of Alessandro when delivering the orders still sent chills down Baolsen’s spine.

The intelligence department had utilized extremely precious resources. The United Fleet had even delayed their coordination with Desic’s deployment to Little Pyrenees for this operation, costing them a whole month of planning and execution, all just to capture one person!

It was conceivable how determined Sobel was to get this person. If, with the prey already within their grasp, they let the person escape, then he might as well slit his own throat!

That Destroyer at the rear, how did it manage to charge up? If they had been just one minute slower, this operation could have ended perfectly!

”Faster, faster!!”

Under Baolsen’s roar, the Western Alliance Fleet, maintaining the inertia from the end of the warp, lunged straight at the Kars Lily heading for the obstacle area like a pack of hungry wolves. As long as they didn’t escape radar surveillance, they were confident they could catch the fleeing prey again!

The three most advanced Binart Empire Raging Stream-class Destroyers were far superior to that ordinary teardrop-shaped Leray Destroyer. Whether in electronics, radar, firepower, or speed!

...............

As the Blue Rose replaced the flagship, sending out the free retreat light signal, only three of the six escort ships were left.

Ignoring the Blue Rose’s signal, the scarred ships continued to deftly dodge and fire within the pirate fleet. One had lost its navigation ability, while the other two desperately tried to get close to the Blue Rose.
