Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 572: Volume 6, Chapter 42 Journey_3

How many secrets are still hidden within this vast universe?

Fatty gazed at the ceiling of the cabin, which appeared somewhat transparent under the blue light, his mind cluttered with thoughts. He pondered the technology of the Space Jump Point, speculated about the future at Chuckna, and at some point, his thoughts drifted back to the current situation in Leray.

It was only after truly returning to Leray and spending some time in Gallipalan that he truly understood Leray’s predicament. Some things can’t be felt on the battlefield. Only in life, in the sparse streets, can one discover the extent to which war has ravaged this country.

The prosperous city was gradually falling into decay, and the thriving industries had withered beyond recognition. The men had all gone to the front lines. In the current factories, women made up the majority, working tirelessly like robots to produce supplies for the front lines.

Energy had long been rationed, and while agriculture could keep up, basic foodstuffs were not lacking. However, slightly more delicate pastries and secondary food products were already difficult to buy. Luxuries and decorations could only be found in second-hand markets.

Half of the shops on the street had closed down. The remaining half had few items to sell, scrupulously making some money from items painstakingly sourced. The desolation chilled people to the bone. The bustling department stores before the war had now become grocery supermarkets.

A few days ago, there were even reports of the Space City’s ecological system being thrown out of balance due to a lack of energy.

Waves of youths put on military uniforms and headed to the front lines. The recruitment age had already been broadened to 16-45 years old.

The resolve of Federation people was unquestionable, defending their homeland with composure. They filled out forms, entered training camps, then hefted guns and headed to the front lines. The lucky ones were still on the front lines, chatting and joking, huddled in trenches with Fusion Hand Grenades waiting for the enemy to come up close for a hard hit.

The less fortunate had long since turned their bodies into scattered flesh, drizzling onto the blackened battlefield. Only a name remained, to be placed on the death notice, sealed in an envelope, and sent home.

Life had been torn apart just like that. The public’s morale, even as they continued to support the front lines, had sunk to the lowest point.

The people did not fear war, but they feared not seeing a future.

In a landscape filled with despair, a stir caused by someone with an agenda or another unbearable blow could instantly lead to upheaval.

When the Federation ran out of strength in the war, no matter who took power or sided with whom, this country would be left with nothing but scorched earth, no one would emerge unscathed.

Mother Ann, Ann Lei, Milan... what kind of life would they face then?

The Binart Empire, Feiyang Republic, Chuckna Republic, Jiepeng Empire, Suss Empire, Naga Federation, Ryan Republic... names of countries and faces of great generals from leaderboards flashed through Fatty’s mind, making him restless.

Leray, this country of peace for three hundred years, must it truly sink into this whirlpool? Will the future and glory of this country truly be shrouded in dust?

Boswell’s conjecture played out repeatedly in Fatty’s mind. Those grand, challenging, and improbable fantasies were the only conceivable future at this moment!

The spaceship gently shuddered, and the blue light disappeared.

Outside the viewport was a strange, completely different space.

The vessel’s power restored, and the lights in the cabin came on. Seeing his reflection in the viewport, looking out at that vast universe, Fatty knew he had no choice left.

Although the road ahead was rough, he had to continue walking since he had started. He needed to restore peace to the world for himself and his loved ones.

Whoever attempted to destroy his life would have their life destroyed in return! No matter which damn great general stood in his way!

Fatty gritted his teeth, cursed under his breath, and strode out of the rest cabin.

Damn it, I’m hungry!
