Counterfeit Hero

Qian Bolin felt a bit awkward. All this analysis indeed stood from his position as the Commander of Karsdon Star River Battlefield. In terms of overall strategy, he had not considered deeply. That was the business of the highest Alliance Commander, Hastings; he never thought he needed to rack his brains.

”Think about it.” Hastings said leisurely, ”If you were Sobel, what would you do?!”

”What would I do?” Qian Bolin furrowed his brows, fingers unconsciously tapping his knee. He pondered for a long time but couldn’t figure out, in this chess game, what strategic deployment the remarkably brilliant General of the Binart Empire would make.

This is a chess game that has just entered the mid-phase. At the start, Sobel initiated the conflict in the southeast corner, swiftly deploying pieces, securing the key interstellar jump points of the main human channels, thereby splitting the Fei Alliance Member Countries from Western Alliance countries. In the southeast corner, the crucial member countries of Western Alliance undoubtedly hold the upper hand.

With Hastings initiating action in the Karsdon Star River, the chess game entered the mid-phase. Now, both sides are in a stalemate, whether at Karsdon or in the Southeast Star Domain, neither seems able to overwhelm the other’s strength.

This war, to truly determine a winner and loser, would at least need five or six years, maybe even ten or twenty years. That is considered fast. After all, this is a cosmic war involving dozens of human nations. Even though modern military can exert national power concentrated on a few fleets or a dozen armored divisions, often deciding victory in one battle, no one expects this war to conclude in just a year or two!

Thinking of this, Qian Bolin suddenly glanced at Hastings, and a thought leapt into his mind... ten, twenty years, Hastings’ age and health...

This thought, once generated, became inexorable.

Compared to a few years ago, Hastings now appeared much older. People are always attracted by his halo, forgetting that even as a Military God, he is also an increasingly frail old man plagued by illness.

Looking again at the operational diagram in front of him, its significance grows ever deeper. Suddenly, Qian Bolin’s mind went blank... Though Feiyang is powerful, as an Admiral of the Military Department, he clearly understands the gap between Feiyang and the Binart Empire. It’s like a seesaw in a children’s playground; both are evenly matched now, but should anything happen to Hastings, then...

Sobel could absolutely cripple the Fei Alliance!

Considering the age factor, that man is currently the number one Great General, right?!

The reason Hastings initiated the Karsdon offensive, which all Feiyang people, including himself, deem contrary to national interest, seems to be emerging. Now, what on earth is Sobel thinking?

Staring blankly at the elderly man in front of him, who has become much more gaunt than in memory, a thought flashed through his mind like lightning...

Western Alliance’s Twelfth Generation Mecha, Hastings’ health, Binart Empire’s defensive stance in Karsdon Star River, and the careless, unambitious attitude of Suss and Jiepeng after clearing the Leray Central Channel...all these form an answer... Sobel is dragging! He is the biggest winner in dragging it out.

His focus is not on Karsdon Star River; he doesn’t want a showdown with Feiyang now.

He is aiming at Southeast Star Domain.

No matter how ambitious Suss and Jiepeng are, they are not rivals for the Binart Empire. Sobel will unleash these hounds only after securing the entire Southeast Star Domain! He is in no rush!

So, now Western Alliance’s strategy is not to deploy forces from Suss, Jiepeng, and Desic to Karsdon, but the opposite... Binart Empire, via the Leray Central Star Domain, sends troops to the Southeast!

Hastings watched as Qian Bolin’s finger moved from Binart Empire on the interstellar map to the Southeast Star Domain, smiling with satisfaction, and then he burst into a severe coughing fit.

He handed the operational diagram to Qian Bolin: ”Contact Douglas; he will tell you other things. First, go to Chuckna; I’ve already coordinated with Chuckna Military Department, the east and southeast will be merged into a large battlefield. Also, Margaret is at Mars Free Port...”

”Watch over her for me,” Hastings took a deep breath, calming his violently heaving chest, and handed a document on his side to Qian Bolin: ”Most importantly, you need to keep an eye on this person...if Carolina hasn’t settled him. Don’t hesitate to use him more. I’ve always been very curious about this person.”

Qian Bolin took the file from Hastings’ hand, opened the first page, and a photo of a Fatty appeared before his eyes.
