Counterfeit Hero

All along, although the Mars Free Port was a typical world of the strong preying on the weak, for these genius scientists, it wasn’t that terrifying. The conflicts between the gangs had nothing to do with them. As long as they had wisdom and brains, many organizations would want to win them over.

This was an era where technology was king. A scientific research project or an invention could revive a company or organization, bringing them great wealth. It could also give them an advantage in competition. The most important thing was that scientists who only focused on research wouldn’t get involved in power struggles and posed no threat to anyone!

This positioning once made the scientists very satisfied! In their eyes, as long as they had enough time and space to immerse themselves in their research, it was the happiest life in the world.

But now, everyone present hated themselves for being just weak scientists and not warriors! They wished they could tear apart the inhuman bastard in front of them, but their long-believed power of wisdom was so weak in the face of Kolev’s gun!

A staff member being held at gunpoint by Kolev was barely over twenty. At this moment, the young man had lost all thoughts. He could only stare dead at Kolev’s finger. As long as that finger moved slightly, he would end up like the two who were shot earlier, lying in a pool of blood.

Would a young life just end so easily?

Kolev’s finger moved slightly twice, torturing the prey’s nerves, something he often did. He was most excited to kill the prey when they were distracted or hoping for luck.

Beep beep. A light sound came from the communicator on Kolev’s wrist.

Kolev looked at the communicator in surprise, retracted his gun, and prepared to answer.

Just at that inevitable moment when the young staff member relaxed, a gunshot rang out, and a blood hole appeared on his forehead.

In the instant he fell with eyes full of disbelief.

”Hahahaha!” Kolev burst into wild laughter, almost tearing up with laughter as he danced around under the furious glares of the surrounding scientists. Then, he pressed the answer key on the communicator.

Amidst the gunfire, Folman rushed into the Imagination Technology Building.

Following him was a grim-faced Fatty and forty fully armed, expressionless bandit soldiers.

The communicator finally connected.

”Kolev?!” Folman panted as he rushed into the floating elevator.

”It’s me, Chairman Folman!” Kolev’s respectful voice came from the communicator.

”Who the hell told you to shoot? Stand right where you are and don’t move!” Folman looked at Fatty’s twitching dark face beside him and trembled as he spoke, ”Do nothing, not even blink! Understand? I’ll be there soon!”

The flush from the wild laughter still lingered on Kolev’s face, and his expression suddenly froze.

He stared dumbfounded at the three bodies on the ground, not understanding what was wrong with Folman, but a sense of foreboding instantly struck him.

Moments later, Folman stormed into the Black Devil Studio hall like a madman, followed by dozens of soldiers Kolev had never seen before. They swiftly surrounded everyone in the studio, including Kolev and his armed men.

”Drop your guns!” Folman ordered Kolev’s armed men to lay down their weapons, then strode to Kolev and gave him two resounding slaps: ”Who told you to shoot and kill?!”

Then, with reddened eyes, Folman kicked the completely stunned Kolev to the ground.

The sudden change left Kolev dumbfounded. But to the scientists, it was like moving from hell to heaven! The shift made their heads spin, and their whole bodies trembled as if struck by electricity.

They looked at Fatty beside Folman and the dozens of elite, fierce bandit soldiers surrounding the hall. They were the ones who, for the sake of these weak scientists, launched a thunderous attack. It was they who, in just two hours, broke through several divided territories and stormed here, shocking the entire Mars Free Port!

The intense relief of surviving exceeded many people’s psychological limits. A few female researchers couldn’t control their emotions and burst into tears, and even the men had red eyes!

”I’m sorry.....” Fatty gritted his teeth, looking at the three bodies lying in the blood: ”I still came too late!”

After a dead silence in the hall, the sound of crying filled the room.

For these scientists who were only focused on their research, the earlier experience was too cruel.

The young staff member who was just gunned down had only joined the studio three months ago. Diligent, eager to learn. Although he made no significant contributions to the research, he always completed every assigned task well.

A few minutes faster, just a few minutes faster, and this young life would not have been lost!

But could the Fatty with tears in his eyes be blamed?

Waiting was everyone’s unanimous decision! In this chaotic world, they had nowhere to go if they were driven out! And after Fatty made his promise, it was a thunderous two-hundred-kilometer assault! He even arrived several minutes earlier than he had promised!
