Counterfeit Hero

Fatty had killed many people, but he had never raised a butcher’s knife against innocent civilians! Forced into the war, what he hated the most was this senseless slaughter!

When it came to such people, Fatty always had one method of dealing with them — an eye for an eye!

Behind him, a ”Heng Dao” launched three red signal flares.

The red flares slowly ascended into the sky. When they reached the top and started to fall, a loud charge horn sounded from between the buildings.

Suddenly, around Echo Street in Puluo Town, the sounds of killing rose up.

Like two torrents of black dragons, the mecha surged forward, sweeping everything in their path as they converged towards the center. People and horses were overturned everywhere they went. The scattered red mechas and the infantry following behind them were instantly reduced to smithereens whenever they encountered the black butchers in groups of three or five.

Blood splattered, and the entire city groaned under this terrifying massacre.

Automatic cannons exploded amidst the Blood-colored Mercenary Army’s infantry, metal shells tearing through flesh and blood. Wherever the eye could see, soldiers fell in waves like harvested wheat. Large chunks of flesh rolled through the air, raining blood; white brain matter splattered everywhere— the ground was a mire of blood.

The scattered red mechas couldn’t organize any effective resistance. The black mechas always moved in teams of three, one attacking from the front, two flanking from the sides. Their maneuvers were extremely bizarre. Often, just as a red mecha assumed a defensive position, it would be taken down by an unexpected axe from out of nowhere.

Communications were cut off, and command coordination was lost. In modern warfare, even the most elite units would be powerless under such circumstances. Moreover, they were facing the most ruthless pirates and the battle-hardened Leray Warriors! And these warriors, were the core force meticulously trained by Fatty himself!

Apart from the carefully selected mecha martial arts and killing techniques on the battlefield, Fatty had put a lot of work into close combat coordination within small areas. The ”Wave Riding Skill” footwork from mecha martial arts was drilled into the soldiers repeatedly. Every detail—direction, timing, speed, mecha posture control, attack sequence—was ingrained into the Bandit Army Mecha Soldiers.

At the beginning of the battle, the Bandit Army Mecha Soldiers were still a bit rusty and doubtful of the data-filled, theoretical, intricate footwork coordination. But as the battle progressed, with each successful kill made in coordination, they became utterly addicted to this combat style.

Electronic interference, mechanical knight level suppression, close-knit coordination in small areas, and the sudden initial attack—all these factors turned the Bandit Army Mecha Soldiers into the harbingers of death. At this moment, their sole duty was slaughter!

In the eastern districts of Echo Street, the red mechas were retreating.

In urban street battles, such a retreat was fatal. The fog of war enveloped them; no one knew how many enemies lurked in the spider-web-like streets! Street by street, block by block, panic spread rapidly.

The people standing in the tall buildings were completely dumbfounded.

The numerous red mechas were routed, while the less than a hundred black mechas swept through everything like a hot knife through butter. Advancing from three directions towards the center, they left a trail of corpses in their wake. The panicked red mechas attempted to resist, but behind the black mechas lay an eerie dead silence.

At the very front of these black mechas, one mecha was leading the killing.

Fatty, piloting a ”Heng Dao,” charged at the forefront. His hand speed of seventy-two actions per second had been pushed to the extreme.

With one swing, he cut down a red mecha. ”Heng Dao” leaped up, its legs kicking out like lightning, shattering the cockpit of another mecha. Without waiting to land, it twisted in mid-air like a great bird, its battle axe drawing a sharp arc, splitting open the head of a third mecha.

Before the other mechas could catch up, he executed a textbook-perfect ”Jumping Through,” shooting into another group of retreating red mechas—only the sound of clashing metal followed. The red mechas exploded like fireworks, with several dismembered mechas flying in all directions.

In the eyes of the Bandit Army Mecha Soldiers, their commander had transformed into the Grim Reaper. In ferocious close combat and precise long-range shooting, the mecha under his control was like a wolf among sheep, every movement a killing blow.

His speed had reached the extreme; no one could distinguish which of the several phantoms weaving, dashing, and jumping among the red mechas was his real self.

Before him, no red mecha could withstand even a single round.

On top of the Puluo Branch building, Cosmo, Baz, Weiseler, and the elders, along with over a thousand young Mech Knights, watched in absolute silence.

Their eyes were wide open, nostrils flaring. Some bit their lips tightly, while others clenched their fists so hard their knuckles turned white!

One versus a hundred, bearing down like Mount Tai, sweeping through thousands, dominating everything... That black mecha gave them a lesson in warfare!

But what stirred the hearts of Cosmo and the others to an uncontrollable extent was the sight of the hundred and twenty black mechas rolling up in a massive wave.

Roaring cheers rose from the surrounding buildings.

The hundred and twenty mechas continued their triumphant advance.

This victorious scene, so intimately related to them, unfolded before their eyes. The young Mech Knights had never felt such pride and fervor, nor had they ever realized so profoundly that this chaotic era was one where heroes emerged.

Excluding the dozens of Leray Warriors, those pirates they had looked down upon from the bottom of their hearts were now fierce professional soldiers.

Before them, the enemy was retreating.

Behind them, the civilians were cheering!

They had earned the respect of everyone!

A man ought to be like this! (To be continued. For more chapters, please visit www.qidian.com, support the author, and support legitimate reading!)
