Counterfeit Hero

The girl was crying, and the others in the building were pale-faced. Despair shrouded Puluo Town. In the distance, Central City was similarly engulfed in continuous gunfire and cannon blasts. Though the world was vast, there was nowhere for people to escape!

Below, the ant-like red Mechas had begun a new round of deployment.

The Mechas that had stayed at the rear all along had completely surged forward, advancing along the alleyways towards First Avenue. Both wings of the district were densely packed with scattered Mechas!

Zhang Kai sighed and reached out to turn off the camera. He didn’t want to capture the failure of this black team.

Even if it cost him his job, he wouldn’t record it!

Zhang Kai felt that, for a period of time at least, these Mechas and he, along with everyone in Puluo Town, were united in their fight against the common enemy. Although there was no actual connection between them, the feeling was undoubtedly real.

However, Zhang Kai’s hand froze just when he was about to press the switch.

He suddenly noticed an extremely weird scene in one of the shots—a corner hidden in an infantry trench where several mannequin soldiers were posed in various positions. Their bodies were piled with rags, blood bags, and chunks of pork.

A projectile hit the spot precisely and exploded with a blinding flash. Zhang Kai was startled by the light captured in the frame. He stared at the image with a perplexed expression—blood and flesh flying everywhere.

Zhang Kai’s heart was racing, a premonition compelling him to swiftly switch all the lenses to wide-angle shots.

In the wide-angle lens, the tide of red Mechas had completely surged forward, filling the entire First District with their squirming forms.

The black Mechas seemed to have given up on resisting. They retreated rapidly, disintegrating into chaos. Before them, the central advancing red Mechas pressed harder, advancing even faster.

The reds advanced, the blacks retreated. The swirling colors in the scene were dizzying.

However, when the foremost black Mecha retreated past the last Mecha trench, the dazzling chase abruptly ended.

The ground trembled, and muffled thunderous sounds emanated from underground.

Time froze suddenly.

People looked around in shock, not knowing what was happening.

Also bewildered were the red Mechas in the scene. Their movements became hesitant, some even stopped and gazed around. These death-defying warriors instinctively sensed danger.

Suddenly, a thunderous explosion from underground surged out of the bank building and roared in the air. Immediately, an even more intense chain of explosions, like the beats of passing a drumstick, rapidly transmitted around the buildings in First District, deafeningly loud.

Like a volcanic eruption, or like the old battleships firing hundreds of cannons simultaneously, the windows and doors at the bottom of each building in First District spewed raging flames and billowing smoke.

In the terrifying explosions, the buildings began to tilt.

A few seconds later, the shockwave radiating from the center of First Avenue District swept up thick clouds of dust, rolling out to the surroundings, ascending into the sky, blocking the sun!

The bank building was gone.

The Dellphine Commercial Center Building was also gone.

The Mingxin Sect, Absolute Kill Stream, Mountain Breaker Sect buildings, all of them vanished.

Zhang Kai was stunned, and the girl beside him was also stunned.

Everyone was stunned.

All the blood in their bodies rushed to their heads and then swiftly withdrew. A shivering electric current crawled up from the tailbone to the back of their heads.

No one dared to believe what had just happened—within moments, the entire square-shaped First District had lost all its heights!

First District was leveled!

People strained to move their eyes, pale-faced and looking at each other, seemingly trying to confirm the undeniable answer from each other’s expressions—that hundreds of red Mechas were finished.

There was no need for the dust to settle; simply observing the direction of the collapsing buildings indicated that few red Mechas would escape this horrific catastrophe!

This was a massacre, a meticulously planned massacre! (To be continued. To know what happens next, please visit www.qidian.com, more chapters available, support the author, support legal reading!)
