Chapter 686: Chapter 272: Enhancement and Improvement (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)_3

Various training dummies and archery targets were all in place without exception.

This training room was originally designated for the exclusive use of Count Habs and Cleya, but with one severely injured and the other undergoing a breakthrough, it naturally became unavailable to them.

Rein didn’t have to worry about anyone else disturbing him here.

Moreover, ever since last night, Rein had been eager to test the newly learned Basic Secret Technique of Arcadian Swordsmanship, “Sword Blade Storm.”

Now, he planned to start trying it immediately.

To test the effect of Sword Blade Storm, Rein first placed four ironwood dummies at distances of four or five meters to his front, back, left, and right, and then placed another four dummies ten meters away.

Following that, he positioned himself at the centerpoint of the ironwood dummies and took a deep breath.

The next second, the Hardened Essence Gold covering his Knight’s gauntlets instantly transformed into a Dual-Handed Greatsword.

“Sword Blade Storm!”

In an instant, Rein, holding the Dual-Handed Greatsword, began to rapidly spin like a top, creating a powerful cyclone that seemed to explode into existence in the open ground, rapidly enveloping the surroundings in a shockwave!

“Bang! Bang! Crack! Crack!” A series of noises followed.

Both the ironwood dummies at a distance of five meters and those at ten meters alike fell over to the ground.

Seconds later, once the dust had settled—

Rein walked over to check, only to see that each of the four ironwood dummies five meters away had over ten horizontal sword cuts, each several inches deep.

Ironwood is known for its hardness and toughness; leaving such deep cuts on it meant that even tempered steel would likely suffer a similar fate.

Rein nodded slightly.

He then started inspecting the dummies set ten meters away.

However, these dummies only bore faint traces of over ten linear white marks. Seeing this effect, Rein’s brows slightly furrowed.

The damage to the ironwood dummies wasn’t caused by the greatsword in Rein’s hands, but by the original force on the greatsword affecting the air at ultra-high speeds, creating high-velocity airflow that sliced through, resulting in the effect observed.

If the greatsword had directly struck the dummies, there was no doubt they would have been chopped into several sections.

“The power is pretty strong, it’s just that the attack range doesn’t seem as wide as I imagined,” he said.

“If the effective radius is only about five meters… it’s still a bit too limited.”

“However, it does seem difficult for merely high-speed airflow to travel much further…”

Rein immediately brought up the system panel, focusing his attention on Sword Blade Storm.

“If I raise it to the Intermediate level, it should be much more powerful, I suppose.”

“…To raise it to an Intermediate Secret Technique, the breathing method is already satisfied, but I still need Arcadian Swordsmanship lv14 or higher and to expend 2 Golden Skill Points.”

“That means I need a total of 3 Golden Skill Points, which just happens to be enough,” he calculated.

After mulling it over for a moment, Rein decided to enhance it and see the effect.

….

Several minutes later, Rein looked at the several ironwood dummies lying prone around him and nodded slightly.

“The damage radius has only expanded to approximately seven meters, which is much less than I anticipated; however, the lethality within the radius is indeed impressive, as the ironwood dummies within three to five meters were directly severed!”

After a bit of thought, an idea flashed across Rein’s mind.

He focused his Spirit on the Dual-Handed Greatsword in his hands.

The next second, the surface of the Dual-Handed Greatsword showed several shapes resembling the shurikens used by ninjas in his previous world, connected to the greatsword by extremely fine metal wires.

“Sword Blade Storm!”

In an instant, as Rein held the Dual-Handed Greatsword spinning like a top, a powerful sonic boom swept the area, and amidst the airflow were specks of something black.

“Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!”

With this deployment, the seven or eighty densely packed shurikens on the greatsword, due to the strong rotational inertia, all broke away from the metal wires, being swiftly flung outwards from the greatsword’s blade.

“Ding ding dang dang!”

A chorus of sounds reminiscent of popping beans came from the ironwood dummies at a further distance.

When the dust settled, Rein moved forward to inspect once more, and this time he discovered shurikens numbering between three to eight embedded in the surface of the ironwood dummies placed against the wall, thirty meters away.

The depth of the shurikens reached over five centimeters, roughly similar to the cutting effect of the high-velocity airflow within a six or seven-meter radius previously.

That is to say, with Rein’s modifications, the range of the Sword Blade Storm had been enhanced from the initial six or seven meters to an impressive thirty to fifty meters!

Seeing this effect, a slight smile appeared on Rein’s face.

As for why he chose shurikens?

That’s because Rein took into consideration the stability of the shurikens upon rotation, which was better than kunai—including the so-called “willow leaf” throwing knives—as it completely removed the need to consider the angle of the greatsword when deploying Sword Blade Storm.

The shurikens could ensure a 360-degree no-dead-zone sweep in all directions.

Of course, this wasn’t without its downsides.

It was particularly expensive in terms of Hardened Essence Gold!

The seventy or eighty shurikens that were shot out were all transformations of Hardened Essence Gold, meaning that each deployment of the Sword Blade Storm cost Rein approximately ten kilograms of the metal!

Quite costly indeed.

Rein adjusted the thickness of the metal wires several more times to just the right degree, neither too thick to inhibit breaking free from rotational inertia nor too thin causing immediate detachment and diminishing power.

Half an hour later, Rein finally wore a satisfied smile.
