The First Store System

Chapter 854: Conditions Fulfilled!

Aakesh had chosen a random direction to leave since there was no point in going back to the city. Once his class upgraded to Mythical grade, he would totally focus on leveling inside Panagea.

Aakesh would have begun searching for the Emperorʼs inheritance if the system hadnʼt asked him not to interfere with the main storyline of Panagea.

Aakesh had only traveled a few hundred miles when automatic alerts began ringing inside his head.

Aakesh jumped on one of the trees and focused on the rewards he had received from his class.

For watching over the ritual and the demonʼs fulfilled wishes, Aakesh got a level increment as well as a large quantity of XP.

Since Aakesh had been stagnating at his level for several years now, the reward was what Aakesh needed.

The next moment, he called his status screen since it had been a long time since he had checked it.

The next moment, a blue screen with golden fonts appeared in front of him, containing all his details.

Personal Status:

Name: Aakesh,

Aakeshʼs level had grown from Level 294 to Level 295, and he had even reached the limit since he also gained a large amount of XP.

Aakesh was at most a day away from achieving Level 296; he would most likely achieve it today. Aakesh hadnʼt gained any level in the past several decades, and now he was close to gaining two levels in a single day.

Aakesh then removed his focus from the status screen, as this was not the most desirable thing to him.

[Adventurer, witnessing the last event has pushed your experience past the limit of the Legendary grade!]

[You have now become eligible to take a test for the class upgrade!]

[Adventurer, do you want to participate in the class upgrade quest?]

A smile spread across Aakeshʼs face as he heard the latest alert. He had finally crossed the threshold of the legendary grade.

Aakesh was already aware that there would be a class upgrade quest since it was a unique class. He would need to complete the mission objective for every upgrade. The higher the upgrade level, the more difficult the requirements for the quest would become.

Aakesh hadnʼt come this far to give up at the end, so he answered with a yes to the systemʼs alert.

[Adventurer, you have chosen to partake in the class upgrade quest!]

[Prepare for teleportation to the questʼs location!]

[Teleporting in 10,9,8,...,2,1!]

When the systemʼs alarm reached one, a white light appeared and surrounded Aakesh.

The next moment, both Aakesh and the white light disappeared from that spot.

Aakeshʼs status screen, which had been still floating, also vanished after Aakesh left, waiting for its owner to call it back.

After the teleportation was successful, Aakesh found himself in a market full of buzz. It was nighttime here. The streets were wider than usual, and yet they were overcrowded.

Lanterns could be seen floating in the air. It seemed the people here were celebrating their festivals.

Boom!

A few miles away from where Aakesh was, there was an explosion. The joyous mood that had spread in the market turned into panic as people began to run.

[Adventurer, the quest for you is to select ten beings in the market to watch over. If even one of the ten beings you pick dies in the upcoming war, you will lose the quest.]

The next moment, a blue screen containing golden fonts appeared in front of Aakesh.

The quest was the same as what Aakesh had faced getting the class, but Aakesh could sense that the difficulty this time was going to be several folds higher.

As Aakesh was thinking, another screen appeared in front of him.

This time, the screen contained the criteria required by Aakesh when he chose the ten candidates.

When Aakesh read all the conditions, he understood that it was a pit he had to willingly throw himself into. When all the conditions were considered at the same time, it meant Aakesh needed to choose ten people who would fight on the front.

The last time, Aakesh had intervened in the battle since the other side was only mortals. But this time, the situation was different.

If Aakesh interfered, the war would get bigger and bigger with higher-level people joining. In the end, the situation for the chosen candidate would turn even more dangerous than it would have been without Aakeshʼs interference.

Similar to the last time, the enemy in the war was a race of beastmen.

According to the conditions put forth by the quest, Aakesh began searching for ten candidates.

Time flew by, and a few minutes passed in the blink of an eye.

The situation was worsening as Aakesh had heard at least seven blasts in the vicinity during his stay here. Aakesh still hadnʼt found a single candidate as he needed to be careful.

Aakesh couldnʼt be casual like the last time. He had no thoughts of interference after getting the systemʼs warning.

Even one death would result in the questʼs failure, and Aakesh didnʼt want to see what would happen to his efforts once he failed the quest. He cautiously began searching for his candidates.

He suddenly came across a middle-aged man, rushing toward the danger, searching for his daughter.

The others thought the man to be crazy, but not Aakesh. His eyes shone since he got his first candidate.

Even though everyone here was only mortal, from the way the man was moving, Aakesh was sure that the man must be in the defense profession.

In the middle of the screams, Aakesh found a few more candidates for his quest. Aakesh now only needed three more candidates, and then he would have all ten candidates required.

The seven candidates found by Aakesh were the best he had seen in all the people, while in those seven, the middle-aged man Aakesh found first seemed to be on another level.

Time flew by, and after searching for several minutes, Aakesh finally found all his ten candidates.

As Aakesh selected all his ten candidates, loud alarms began blaring around the city as if everything depended on Aakesh choosing his candidates.

[City people, those barbarians have attacked us once again. How long are we going to see our people dying?]

[We may be weaker than the enemy when it comes to strength or numbers, but they are nowhere as strong as us when it comes to protecting our children.]

[Keeping the future of our children in mind, the city administration has decided to wage a last war against the barbarians.]

[The war is mandatory for everyone, beginning at age thirteen. Deserters would be executed with their families.]

[We would either come out of this alive and would have secured the future of our loved ones, or this would be the end of us!]

[Enough is Enough!]

An announcement from the city lord replaced the blaring alarms. Many citizens felt their blood boiling in anger when they remembered the number of people the city had lost due to the beastmenʼs attacks.

While there were many who lost all their colors in fright since the announcement clearly showed that it would be either the end of them or the end of the beastmen.

Many who had been living lives of luxury protested against the announcement but when executions occurred, everyone willingly joined the war. The war at least gave them a chance of survival, whereas speaking against the war meant certain death. It was clear as to what was the better choice.

Since all ten candidates selected by Aakesh were related to the cityʼs defense, they joined the war together.

The announcements continue to ring, and an hour later, the army filled with young blood left the city.

It was an idiot strategy to fight in the open when the other party was not only superior in strength but also numbers. But the city army had no choice.

Even though the beastmen were the stronger party, they didnʼt attack the city directly. They instead bombed the city from time to time. They wanted to play with the city people as a hunter played with his prey.

The city administration also knew this, so with the army in the front, they sent fifty of their best soldiers to assassinate the beastmen. Of those fifty soldiers, one was the middle-aged man chosen by Aakesh.

The quest had become even more difficult for Aakesh as the survival chances of the middle-aged man had decreased by several times.

Aakesh could now only hope for the best. He put the intervening option back on the table when he heard about the operation. Aakesh wouldnʼt let the quest fail at any cost.
