Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 124: Chapter 111: Operation Codename: Wild Hunt

It’s been a month since the Beast Tide was launched.

The sky was gloomy, and the terrifying Black Tide had completely covered Automobile City. Sporadic gunfire occasionally erupted between buildings, followed by the surging sound of chewing.

Kep sat somewhat awkwardly behind a pillar, listening to the heavy footsteps gradually fade away. The Bio-Fusion Armor transformed into a black substance and receded, revealing his bare upper body with three huge wounds, the flesh turned outward and very apparent.

He took a few deep breaths and pulled out a bottle of ointment, slowly applying it.

Such injuries could only be caused by a B-level Radiation Beast.

As the Beast Tide escalated to B-level, the Genetic Territory fully covered Automobile City, and B-level Radiation Beasts began to regain their strength even stronger than when they were in the Metropolitan Area.

The reason is simple: although the ghostly craftsmanship of nature has bred such a bizarre race as the Radiation Beasts, the law of conservation of energy never changes, and such massive amounts of life energy require a powerful supplier.

The Beast Tide is just such a supplier.

Therefore, to combat the Beast Tide, it must be nipped in the bud. However, those two A-level Radiation Beasts were too cunning. After a draw with Demon Mountain General in the early stages, they went into hiding, seemingly determined not to show themselves until the Beast Tide reached a sufficient strength.

Within a month, the Beast Tide had matured.

”This is troublesome.”

Under the suppression of the B-level Beast Tide, or Black Tide, only the elite could survive; ordinary soldiers could no longer endure. Once exposed to high-intensity radiation, they would exhibit symptoms similar to ’altitude sickness,’ with body tremors and consciousness confusion; more severely, they might even die due to organ failure.

Under these circumstances, Advanced Combat Robots and Bio-Fusioners became the main forces on the battlefield, and then they experienced the true Beast Tide.

The endless, relentless mutated tidal wave that drowned everything.

Even the elite from the Mother City, like him, fell into a state of despair against such an endless enemy.

There were even Bio-Fusioners who committed suicide.

This was absolutely unimaginable in the past.

Suddenly, a burst of gunfire erupted, and Kep quickly dashed to the window, looked outside through the curtain, and saw the tongues of fire lighting up from the top of a building across — a comrade had been discovered!

Soon, a large number of creatures began to converge from the shadows, in the sky and on the ground: Alien Forms, Heavy Mechanical Beasts, Gun Beasts, Parasitic Beasts, covering everything in sight.

The light quickly dimmed and brightened, making it clear that his comrade was in crisis.

Kep’s first reaction wasn’t to help but to think about how to evade. In just a short ten days, he seemed to have developed some sort of stress reaction to these Radiation Beasts, feeling an uncontrollable strong nausea as soon as he saw these enemies.

He took deep breaths, and the black substance that was the Bio-Fusion Armor covered him once more, stretching and retracting several times before finally enveloping his entire body.

With a palm strike, he shattered the glass, revealing energy jets on his thighs and shoulder blades. In an instant, he appeared in mid-air.

However, unexpectedly, before he could make a move, the ground suddenly lit up like ’a myriad of lights,’ and terrifying gunfire drowned everything.

It felt like a divine army descending onto the battlefield.

Kep was stunned.

How could there still be reinforcements at this time?

Or rather, how did the reinforcements break through layers of Beast Tide to enter this Oasis?

Moreover, the firepower was ridiculously strong, as if each had a Six-Barreled Vulcan Cannon or a grenade launcher, with even hundreds of energy beams crisscrossing.

Even with so many heavy weapons, there had to be enough users.

The Bio-Fusion Armor’s eye area quickly turned red, switching to infrared mode, only for him to be shocked to find that this reinforcement wasn’t human but ’armored monsters’ more gun-laden than Gun Beasts!

The Bone Armor on these monsters was thicker than a tank’s.

Some had six sets of machine guns on their backs.

Some were covered in steel blades from head to toe.

They used weapons, tore, and rampaged.

The sudden attack by these monsters threw the other Radiation Beasts into chaos.

”We’re all comrades, how can you attack us? Isn’t human more delightful?”

Kep didn’t have time to think it over, as he saw his comrade’s light had vanished.

In an instant, he appeared on the same floor, crashing through a wall with a ’bang’.

The floor was littered with Radiation Beast corpses, smashed as if by a heavy object. Just as he was about to advance, a sense of alertness struck him, and without hesitation, he flew in the opposite direction; the powerful burst of the Bio-Fusion Armor allowed him almost no pause in the shift of movement.

The next moment, a massive mechanized axe the size of a millstone flashed and struck down where he’d just been, shattering the entire floor and scattering a mass of steel and stone to the lower level.

”A Mechanical Beast’s chained weapon?”

Kep’s eyes flashed with killing intent, and eight energy jets on his body lit up as he lunged toward the direction of the Mechanical Beast’s body.

But in the next instant, a long whip of flame swept out, twisted in mid-air five times, and at an odd, cunning angle grabbed his ankle, yanking hard. Kep was slammed to the ground, the Bio-Fusion Armor on his back emitting a crisp cracking noise.

The skill of borrowing and releasing force, with rhythmic shakes and pulls, was rated as ’Master’ level on the ’game panel’.

”Don’t attack, it’s me, Captain!” Salina ran over from a distance, somewhat anxious, but relaxed upon seeing Kep.

”Hehe, Old Ma, how’s my Lightning Five-Chain Whip?” a smug voice sounded, and hearing it, naturally, it had to be Old Ma.

”It’s passable. Although you looked rather awkward, I must say your whip-wielding skills were indeed impressive,” another old voice responded.

Two elderly figures emerged from the darkness. Kep’s eyes narrowed as he saw these two old men, one with both hands severed at the root, replaced by two strange flesh whips, and the other hunched over, dragging a massive chain behind him, at the end of which was the axe that almost killed him earlier.

Unlike those Biological Transformated Warriors, these two gave off a strong sense of threat as soon as they appeared.

They were masters of the same level!

”Who are you?”

”Who are we, you ask? Well, allow me to elaborate,” Old Ma coughed dryly and began an old storyteller’s tale.

”There is a saying, ’A horse knows loyalty, a dog remembers kindness, an ape offers fruit willingly, and the spider weaves a web to protect itself.’ Now, there was a man of great talent, surnamed Gao, who, on a certain year, month, and day, sought to save all beings by seeking help from old heroes across the lands. There were thirteen such heroes, with the leader being surnamed Ma...”

”Ma my foot, you’re supposed to save someone, and you start boasting!”

A sudden gale rose, and everyone turned to see a mechanical eagle with a wingspan of over two meters appear at the shattered wall. A petite figure jumped down from the eagle’s back, put her hands on her hips, and sized up Kep.

”You’re the guy from the Bio-Fusioner team, right, the weird advisor? Oh no, your new superior mentioned you to me.”

”You mean the Special Military Advisor?” Kep perked up. After almost half a month, he finally heard news, which wasn’t easy.

”Yes, that’s him. He wanted me to tell you that from now on, you all will work under me. I need the list of all logistics staff you have, and you need to assist us with installing the sensory equipment, clearing each combat zone...”

Kep had to interrupt her, somewhat anxious, ”Doesn’t Advisor Gao have anything to say about the Beast Tide?”

Huang Yuanli gave him a curious look.

”What, you don’t know? The new special military operation has already begun.”

”Codename: Wild Hunt.”

...

”Uncle Xu, why won’t mom let me play with you?”

In different locations but the same squatting posture, two figures, one large and one small, squatted in the same pose on the ruins of a tall building on the periphery. Fat Xiang touched his chin, utterly bewildered.

Old Xu glanced at the menacing bone armor on the other and had a moment of nostalgia in his eyes.

”Did Sister Xiang ever tell you about a guy named Old Gong?”

”Seems like she mentioned it,” Fat Xiang touched his chubby chin, seriously recalling, ”Mom said this new outfit of mine is Uncle Gong’s.”

”That’s right, your Uncle Gong was a good friend of ours. Like you, he had the ability to transform into a giant. Even at our peak, Old Gong was the strongest among us. He called himself a Monster Hunter, and we all called him the Big Muscle Dominator.”

”And then?” Fat Xiang asked curiously.

Suddenly, Old Xu made a silencing gesture, pressing his big head down. Then, a tremendous vibration sounded.

Both had been injected with the ’Desert Potion,’ so they didn’t worry about their presence being detected.

There were quite a few ambushes like theirs around.

According to intelligence, although the B-level Beasts had not yet attacked the core of Automobile City, quite a few large figures of B-level Beasts had already appeared on the outskirts.

Fat Xiang couldn’t help it and quietly peeked out from behind cover.

Then he saw a humongous back of a head, crouching in the same posture, peeping at the seventh floor of a building.

”It’s huge!” Fat Xiang quickly covered his mouth.

When he transformed, he was at most three stories tall, but the other was twice his size!

Old Xu didn’t care about him anymore, instead taking out a hand-rolled cigarette, clamping it between his lips but not lighting it.

”Fat Xiang, do you know, in the desert, there’s a type of newborn with a unique physique? They not only resist radiation but also adapt perfectly to it. As they grow, especially after reaching adulthood, their strength, endurance, and speed see an explosive increase.”

”How old are you, Fat Xiang?”

”I’m eighteen this year.”

Old Xu looked at the massive two-meter-three, muscular figure, nodding.

”This explosive growth lasts for a full decade. During those ten years, their physical qualities increase exponentially, and so does their size.”

”Isn’t that a good thing?” Fat Xiang scratched his head.

”Of course, it is. But in addition to that, their humanity gradually fades away, replaced by animal instincts.”

Old Xu slowly stood up, his thumb resting on the double sheath of the Red Unicorn, and above the mechanical knife sheath, there were four ’Three-dimensional Maneuvering Devices.’

”Once their animal instincts completely overwhelm their humanity, they are no longer human but B-level mutant kinds, Mutant Giants.”

”Back then, among our companions, many were of this type, and Old Gong was one of the best. When they reached the brink of losing their humanity, someone had to send them on their way. That someone was me.”

”Send them on their way? Send them where?” Fat Xiang widened his eyes, pure innocence in his gaze.

Old Xu grinned, ruffled Fat Xiang’s head, and strutted away, while that giant face slowly turned around.

The next moment, two thick, high-temperature air columns sprayed from its nostrils.

The maneuvering nozzle emitted a powerful explosion, and Old Xu’s figure appeared in mid-air, the wind whistling. He activated the Electromagnetic Exciter, and two sonic boom air currents appeared, shooting precisely through the gaps in its grasp.

And at the same time, he drew his blade.

Old Xu, actual name unknown; his nickname back then, the Giant Hunter!
