Not Being a Trainer This Time

Chapter 164: Chapter 131: Summer and the Night of Fireflies (4k)

”Gah-oh...”

Looking at Cyclizar, Naoki guessed, ”Is it because you can’t use Dragon Pulse?”

Cyclizar nodded its head, looking disappointed.

Seeing this, Naoki comforted it, ”Don’t worry too much, maybe you just haven’t grasped the knack of it yet. If you keep trying, one day you’ll figure it out and become as strong as Koraidon.”

”Gah-oh?” Cyclizar tilted its head in confusion.

Speaking of Koraidon, Naoki remembered a legend and smiled at Cyclizar:

”Speaking of which, you have a profound connection with Koraidon! Some urban legends say that Koraidon is what you used to look like.”

Cyclizar looked completely puzzled, not understanding.

Naoki thought for a moment and explained, ”It’s how you were a long, long time ago.”

”Besides Koraidon, there’s Miraidon, which is supposedly what you’ll look like a long, long time in the future. One represents the past, one the future, and you, you belong to the present.”

”Gah-oh?” Cyclizar was even more perplexed.

This made it think of the evolution of those Pokemon in the ranch.

So the question arose: Can it also evolve into Koraidon and Miraidon?

Thinking of this, Cyclizar’s eyes lit up instantly.

If it evolves, will it become as powerful as Koraidon?

Naoki sensed that Cyclizar might have misunderstood something, but he didn’t think much of it. He just patted Cyclizar’s head and said, ”It’s okay if you don’t understand. The era they live in is too far from us.”

At this point, the nearby Dragonite couldn’t help but ask, ”Awu?”

What about it? Does Dragonite also have past and future forms?

Although Naoki couldn’t understand Dragonite’s words, he could roughly guess its meaning through its expression and gaze.

He was about to shake his head, but suddenly remembered the giant Dragonite once seen near Bill’s Lighthouse in the anime, hovering above the sea and shrouded in mist.

Rumor has it that the giant Dragonite is an Ancient Dragonite, just like the Ancient Jigglypuff, Ancient Gengar, and Ancient Alakazam sealed in the mountains behind Pallet Town.

Thinking of this, Naoki replied, ”Maybe.”

At this time, other Pokemon started gathering around.

Butterfree, Pawmo, Alcremie, Koraidon...

Butterfree flew over to stay with Naoki upon seeing him sitting on the grass, stargazing.

While Pawmo, Koraidon, and Alcremie came out because Naoki hadn’t returned indoors to sleep.

Naoki looked at them and continued answering Dragonite’s question, ”Maybe a long, long time ago, Dragonite had a gigantic body like a mountain.”

A mountain-sized body... How terrifying would such power be?

Dragonite widened its eyes, imagining the scene.

Naoki sat on the grass, smiling as he enjoyed the quiet night with a group of Pokemon.

Looking at the empty grass, he suddenly felt something was missing, so he returned inside to fetch a picnic cloth, spread it out on the grass, and arranged snacks on it.

Lucky Pudding, Berry, Strawberry Milk, Berry Juice, Honey Bun, Sandwich, Cream Smoothie, Grassy Seed...

Naoki asked Alcremie to call everyone over.

Alcremie gladly agreed.

Soon enough, Glaceon, Gogoat, Nacli, Naclstack, Miltank, Smoliv, Combee, and other Pokemon gathered on the soft grass.

Glaceon’s eyes fixed on the cream smoothie on the picnic cloth, showing a strong desire to eat.

Seeing this, Naoki handed the cream smoothie to it, then took the opportunity to rub Glaceon’s head.

Glaceon, never having been touched by a human before, instantly froze.

”Eat up!” Naoki grinned widely.

”Eevee...”

Glaceon lowered its head and silently began licking the smoothie with its small tongue.

Naoki took out a Grassy Seed from the picnic basket.

Smelling it, the three Gogoat nudged their way over.

While petting their fur, Naoki fed them the Grassy Seed.

”Hmm, maybe I can make some other dishes using grass,” Naoki thought.

Like grass ice cream, grass pie, grass cake...

Luckily, he already had the kitchen tools at home to make cakes, so Naoki planned to try making Green Grass Cake tomorrow to give Gogoat a taste change.

”Meeh!”

At this moment, Gogoat seemed to sense his thoughts and suddenly showed a happy expression, licking him with its tongue that had a faint grassy smell.

Naoki was startled by their actions and quickly withdrew his hand placed on their horns.

Soon after, he realized that Gogoat had sensed his thoughts through his hand!

This was Gogoat’s special ability.

With a touch of their horns, they can feel the emotions of the other party and can read the trainer’s thoughts from the subtle differences in grip pressure.

Naoki curiously asked, ”You sensed my emotions?”

The three Gogoat squinted their eyes happily, ”Meeh~”

”Good job!” Naoki praised, petting the middle Gogoat.

This Gogoat was the one that battled Koraidon earlier and was also the leader of the other two Gogoat.

After evolving from Skiddo to Gogoat, it won in horn games, which made it the leader.

Having finished the Grassy Seed, the three Gogoat lay down nearby.

Naoki then turned to look at the Miltank, not far away, rolling around on the grass.

The Miltank was lively and energetic, especially adept at the Move Rollout.

Watching its actions, Naoki suddenly had a whimsical idea, thinking of a traditional snack - Fried Mung Bean Dumplings.

So the question arose: Could this snack enhance Miltank’s Rollout Move?

”I’ll try making it later,” Naoki planned.

He ate a piece of Lucky Pudding and started playing with Nacli and Naclstack.

First stacking Nacli together, then putting them all onto Naclstack.

Tilting his head and looking at Naclstack for a while, Naoki suddenly felt that this Pokemon’s style was very different from other Pokemon.

Square and neat, unlike creatures from the Pokemon World, looking more like they came from the game Minecraft.

At this time, Butterfree beside him suddenly noticed something, ”Muh-ee!”

Naoki turned around and followed its gaze to see some scattered yellow-green glows on the gently flowing river in the nighttime.

They floated above the river, gently dancing in the tranquil night.

Those are... fireflies?

Naoki was somewhat surprised because, logically speaking, fireflies should appear around July and August.

But soon he thought that the climate of this world was very different from his past life. With distinct seasons here, plus Porto Marinada Town’s coastal location, the nearby climate was warm and humid year-round, so fireflies appearing wasn’t strange.

Gradually, more fireflies gathered by the river, creating a beautiful galaxy slowly flowing in the night.

”Mama...”

Alcremie was stunned by this scene, murmuring softly.

The other Pokemon all turned their heads to look.

Naoki couldn’t help but sigh, ”Yes, it’s truly beautiful!”

In his past life, always bustling through city life, he never had the chance to see such sights.

Maybe, this is the charm of nature?

Beautiful and yet making one feel close.

Not only them, but the group of dazed Psyduck across the river also noticed the scene.

One Psyduck tilted its head, attempting to reach out with its duck foot to catch a firefly.

But failing to catch it, it tumbled into the river, clumsily scrambling back up.

Ignoring the river water all over it, the Psyduck dazedly gazed up at the river.

Clearly, it too was stunned by this beautiful scene.

Watching them, Naoki couldn’t help but think that perhaps in this respect, they are alike.

Whether humans or Pokemon, they are all part of nature.
