His Beloved Treasure

Chapter 2304: Chapter 665: One Year Later (42)_2

”This! I’d better go stay at a hotel, it’s too much trouble for you.”

”If you were afraid of troubling me, would you still have called me out for a drink tonight?”

Qin Mu smiled lightly.

”Then let me treat you to a cigarette?”

The two women drove away from AM, found a deserted spot, got out of the car and smoked a cigarette together, then went their separate ways.

When Qin Mu got home, she was worried they might already be asleep, so she walked in very quietly. It was indeed quite silent inside, but when she reached the living room, she found someone there.

”You’re back!”

Wang Huanyu was sitting on the sofa, reading a newspaper under the floor lamp. When he saw her come in, he greeted her with a smile.

Qin Mu’s eyes flickered. She gave him a faint smile. ”Why aren’t you asleep yet?”

”I have something I’d like to ask you to help with.”

Wang Huanyu still spoke to her in a very polite tone.

Qin Mu lowered her lashes. After thinking for a moment, the smile on her face faded, and she walked over to sit down.

”You smoked?”

Who knew that just as she sat down, Wang Huanyu would ask her that.

Qin Mu...

”I won’t tell your brother-in-law, don’t worry.”

Seeing her tense up, Wang Huanyu explained.

Qin Mu...

”I wanted to ask you to help me talk to your brother-in-law about something. Right after the New Year, a task came down from above, but I’ve gone to see him several times and he’s ignored me every time. So in the end, I can only trouble you.”

When Wang Huanyu said this, his face finally showed a trace of frustration.

Qin Mu shot him a sharp glance. ”Knew it had to be about him.”

Wang Huanyu smiled. ”So you have to help me. You know you’re the only sister-in-law I’ve got.”

”But it’s not like you don’t know the two of us are in the middle of a divorce!”

Qin Mu was a little angry, but she still tried to keep her voice down as she spoke to him.

”I know, but I also know your brother-in-law doesn’t want a divorce. Qin Mu, consider it a favor I owe you. This matter is really important to me.”

Even the space between Wang Huanyu’s brows tightened, and his eyes were full of a kind of aggrieved pleading.

To think that the usually steady top leader of Rong City would never show this kind of childish expression in public.

It was rare for Qin Mu to see him like this, suddenly like a deflated balloon.

”You always call him brother-in-law, but why do you keep calling me Qin Mu?”

Qin Mu had been about to agree, but then she thought of this key issue and immediately grabbed onto it.

”You’re so much older than me, and you still look so young. If I call you ’sis,’ aren’t you afraid I’ll make you sound old?”

This line of his hit her sweet spot dead on. Qin Mu couldn’t help feeling a little smug. She thought of how President Mu had just said she was getting old the other day; by comparison, how pleasant Wang Huanyu’s words sounded. No wonder he could sit in the top seat in Rong City—he really did have a few tricks up his sleeve.

”Mm. But even if I go to him, I doubt he’ll be that easy to talk to, so you...”

”As long as you go find him, there definitely won’t be a problem!”

Qin Mu had meant to say that since they were in the middle of a divorce, Mu Yichen would definitely make things difficult for her in every way, and might not agree to help, so she wanted to prepare Wang Huanyu for the possibility of failure. But before she could finish, Wang Huanyu completely cut off her retreat. Qin Mu instantly felt something stuck in her throat and couldn’t get another word out.

”It’s getting late. The kids are already asleep, I’m going to keep Mingzhu company. Good night?”

Wang Huanyu spoke a few more words to her in that good-tempered way of his.

Qin Mu...

She really had a whole bunch of words stuck in her throat, but in the end she could only nod helplessly. ”Mm.”

Seeing her nod, Wang Huanyu hurriedly took his leave.

As for Qin Mu, she just sat dazed on the sofa, thinking that she’d just stood Mu Yichen up tonight, and tomorrow she was supposed to go talk to Mu Yichen about something. Would Mu Yichen even bother with her? Like hell he would!

Qin Mu slumped against the sofa, feeling like life had nothing left to offer. She tilted her head back and stared at the dim gray light fixture on the ceiling, at a loss for words, exhausted to the bone.

Still, this was the first time her brother-in-law had come to her for help. Qin Mu figured she had to at least try to complete this arduous mission.

And the fact that Wang Huanyu had come to talk to her himself, instead of asking Qin Mingzhu to nag her into it, was already pretty considerate. Qin Mu leaned on the sofa thinking for a while, and when the floor lamp was finally switched off, she got up and dragged her somewhat listless body upstairs.

——

The next morning, when Mu Qingxin got up, her stomach was growling with hunger, so she shot straight downstairs. But...

”Brother-in-law?”

Seeing Mu Yichen in her own living room, Qin Mingzhu almost thought she was hallucinating. She stood woodenly at the bottom of the stairs, staring blankly at the man drinking water in front of her.

Mu Yichen shifted his gaze, then finished the water in his cup, utterly calm. ”I hadn’t planned on letting you all find out, but so be it.”
