His Beloved Treasure

Chapter 2070: Chapter 591: Bumping Straight Into Trouble (Second Update)

”But Chen Fei told me he really did fall for Yang Qin, sigh!”

Zhao Huai let out a helpless sigh, then lifted his eyes to look at Mu Yichen. Mu Yichen was lowering his head over the files and ignored him, which made him a bit anxious.

”Say something, will you! At lea—”

Just as Zhao Huai was about to urge Mu Yichen to give his opinion, a ringtone sounded from outside, as if it were right at the door. Zhao Huai’s heart gave a hard thump.

Mu Yichen’s brows and eyes froze for a beat, then he calmly continued staring at the file in his hand as if nothing had happened.

”I really have a cheap mouth!”

Zhao Huai muttered, then got up from his seat.

As soon as he opened the door, sure enough, Yang Qin was standing there. Only this time, the look she gave him could be summed up as love turned to hate—pure, unfiltered loathing.

”Do you need something?”

Only then did Yang Qin pull back that openly hateful gaze. Hugging the file in her arms, she walked inside.

Standing at the door, watching her ignore him completely, Zhao Huai knew it was really over.

”Boss, they just called from downstairs urging you to sign this document as soon as possible.”

Yang Qin handed the file in her arms to Mu Yichen.

Mu Yichen took it, flipped it open, and carefully read through the contents.

But Yang Qin’s eyes were brimming with tears. Big drops were pooling under her lashes, about to fall at any moment.

She couldn’t understand why they had to do this. She didn’t dare ask her boss either; she just felt an overwhelming humiliation inside. She’d been trying so hard to be a conscientious, responsible subordinate, but in their eyes, she was nothing more than a clown?

After Mu Yichen finished signing, he handed the file back to her. She nodded and turned to leave.

Zhao Huai stood at the door, unable to stop the regret that rose up in him. This really hadn’t been handled well. He’d never meant to hurt a girl like this.

”Secretary Yang...”

He wanted to explain, to apologize, but Yang Qin didn’t even lift her head and walked straight out of the office. And just as she stepped outside, a heavy tear finally slid down her cheek—this scene landed squarely in Zhao Huai’s eyes.

Zhao Huai closed the door again and went back to sit in front of Mu Yichen’s desk, lamenting over and over: ”I’ve really pissed her off this time.”

”Back when you got Zhao Fei to approach her, you should’ve expected it’d be exposed one day.”

Mu Yichen reminded him mildly.

”Easy for you to say. Weren’t we doing all this for you?”

Zhao Huai was a bit frustrated, and had no idea how he was supposed to explain things to Yang Qin later.

”Mm. I’m very grateful.”

Mu Yichen lifted his brows slightly, picked up his unfinished coffee with a faint smile. It was a bit cold, but still tasted fine.

”I should talk to Qiao Yi. He’s got more ideas than I do.”

After thinking it over, Zhao Huai said this to Mu Yichen.

Mu Yichen still just chuckled lightly. ”That works too.”

Zhao Huai looked at him, disgruntled. ”So as long as it doesn’t involve you, everything’s fine, huh? Careful or the two of us will dump the whole thing on you.”

”That works too.”

Mu Yichen still didn’t seem to care much, which left Zhao Huai feeling rather baffled.

”Man, offending President Mu’s secretary—I must have a death wish!”

Work was going to be hard from now on; any communication they needed was bound to be difficult.

”Don’t overthink it.”

Seeing how upset he was, Mu Yichen added another line.

His voice was light, but when Zhao Huai heard it, he felt strangely awkward. Was Chen-ge actually trying to comfort him?

”Don’t comfort me, I can’t handle that!”

As he spoke, Zhao Huai even snuck a glance at him from the corner of his eye. He really couldn’t stomach President Mu’s comforting-women routine being used on him.

Mu Yichen couldn’t help laughing at that.

After that, Zhao Huai still had to leave the office. But once he stepped out and saw the woman hammering away at the keyboard, he didn’t know what to say. Still, just walking off like that didn’t feel right either.

So Zhao Huai had to step forward. ”Yang Qin.”

Yang Qin ignored him. Her eyes were fixed on the computer screen, fingers tapping furiously across the keyboard.

”I’m sorry.”

As a man, he at least had that much grace.

Yang Qin still ignored him, only kept working.

But from her face, and from the speed and force of her typing, Zhao Huai could tell she was angry. He couldn’t help sighing. ”I’m serious. I’m apologizing to you.”

The movement of Yang Qin’s hands suddenly stopped. Her brows and eyes twitched a little, still tinged with grievance, but when she lifted her gaze to Zhao Huai, there was pride in it. ”A serious apology?”

”Yeah.”

”And what exactly counts as a serious apology?”

Zhao Huai thought he’d seen a chance, but when Yang Qin stubbornly asked him this, he realized she had no intention of accepting his apology.

”Why did you do this? Who else was involved? Did you come up with this plan together with the boss and Old Qiao?”
