Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 312: Chapter 270: Experimental Mecha

In the basement.

Gu Wei stood there, clicking his tongue in wonder as he examined the ”No Beef No.1” mecha.

Lu Li’s eyes were flickering as he showcased the ”No Beef No.1” mecha to Gu Wei. It was certainly not just to show off, nor to intimidate him; there was a deeper intention behind it.

Thinking about it, Lu Li chuckled and asked, ”So, what do you think of my mecha?”

”Good, it’s more than just good, it’s incredible!” Gu Wei said with a look of amazement, ”I always thought that the technology of Gundam or Iron Man could only exist in sci-fi works. I didn’t expect to witness it with my own eyes today. Honestly, I’m quite shocked.”

Lu Li tried to steer the conversation toward his purpose, ”Oh, why do you think Iron Man technology can’t exist in reality?”

Gu Wei answered seriously, ”According to current technology, Iron Man’s technology is theoretically achievable, but practically impossible to manufacture. Firstly, the energy problem: humans would at least need to create a small controllable nuclear fusion device to meet the basic requirements for making Iron Man armor. Secondly, providing oxygen inside the armor is also an important issue, as are heating and cooling systems, which all require more advanced technology. These are just the basic problems. Most importantly, those high-energy weapons–current technology simply can’t produce them successfully.”

Seeing that he hadn’t touched upon the key point, Lu Li deliberately guided him, ”Some of the issues you mentioned can actually be resolved by remote control, like the oxygen issue or heating and cooling systems.”

No one sits inside anyway.

So there’s no need to worry about oxygen.

The ”No Beef No.1” did solve the oxygen issue.

He just wanted to steer the conversation back on track, which is why he said that.

”If no one sits inside the mecha, you can indeed ignore many problems.”

Gu Wei nodded in agreement. At this point, he seemed to think of something, ”Hey, Mr. Lu, you just mentioned that this mecha can be remotely controlled. What device do you use for remote control?”

This was exactly the topic Lu Li wanted to guide into.

The ”No Beef No.1” has some similarities with drones in terms of remote control.

It can be operated using either radio waves or by using artificial satellites to transmit commands.

To put it simply, if ”No Beef No.1” is executing tasks at close range, radio waves can be used.

Generally speaking, radio transmission is limited to a few kilometers. In special cases, it can reach dozens of kilometers, but it’s heavily reliant on ”base stations,” so radio control is only suitable for short-range tasks.

For Lu Li, who needs to conduct long-range operations, relying on radio control is obviously unrealistic.

He needs to use artificial satellites to help transmit control commands, enabling the ”No Beef No.1” mecha to execute ultra-long-range tasks.

For example, tasks as far as ten thousand kilometers or even twenty thousand kilometers away.

Lu Li certainly doesn’t own an artificial satellite, which is why he needs Gu Wei’s help.

Or rather, even if he had the capability to launch an artificial satellite, it wouldn’t be useful.

The primary reason is that with thousands of satellites already in orbit, even if he managed to launch one, it might get shot down by another country, and the issue of signal interference is unsolvable.

If he launched his own satellite, its signals might conflict with others, making it impossible to control the mecha.

Moreover, satellite signal transmission typically requires the establishment of communication channels between ground transmission and reception stations.

Without these, merely having a satellite isn’t enough.

This explanation might be difficult for many to understand.

In simplified terms, the principle of satellite-controlled mechas primarily relies on satellite relay communication technology. By installing a long-distance satellite communication antenna on the mecha and setting up data transmission terminals between the ground control station and the satellite, data transmission between the mecha and the satellite is achieved, thus completing a series of complex instructions.

Lu Li had limited time for now and couldn’t fuss with satellites and the like.

Perhaps after he finishes this task, he’ll have the time to launch his own artificial satellite to serve the mechas, but certainly not at this stage.

Lu Li blinked and said, ”It can be controlled using artificial satellites.”

”Artificial satellites?” Gu Wei showed a strange expression. ”I remember you don’t have any artificial satellites, right?”

Lu Li revealed his intentions and said with a sly smile, ”That’s why I wanted to ask if, with your current authority, you could get me an artificial satellite to play with, preferably one that wouldn’t attract attention, maybe an idle satellite. You never know, I might get so satisfied that I’d share the ’No Beef No.1’ mecha technology with you.”

The last sentence was purely an exaggeration.

At least while the mecha still posed a threat to him, it was impossible to give its core technology to anyone.

Gu Wei said, dizzyingly, ”It’s not like there are no artificial satellites, but if you want me to keep the mecha under wraps, it’s very hard to execute on my side. If you are willing to let others know, like my boss, then it’ll be much easier.”

Lu Li sighed, ”I just don’t want others to know, which is why I’m discussing this with you. Don’t you really have a way?”

Gu Wei fell silent, seemingly engaged in an inner struggle.

Lu Li didn’t rush him, standing patiently.

After about two or three minutes, Gu Wei made a decision. He raised his head and said, ”Mr. Lu, I can find a way to get you usage rights to an artificial satellite, and during your operation, it’s likely you won’t be noticed, but afterward, my boss will most likely ask questions. How should I respond then?”

Lu Li thought for a moment and replied, ”Afterward, you can answer truthfully. I might even be able to provide some of the mecha’s technology to you then.”

Gu Wei’s eyes lit up, ”You’re willing to share some of the mecha technology?”

Lu Li nodded, ”Yes.”

Without hesitation, Gu Wei said, ”Alright, I’ll contact someone now. I estimate that before tomorrow morning, you’ll have the rights to use an artificial satellite.”

Lu Li said, ”Alright, thank you.”

Gu Wei responded politely and turned to contact the person he had in mind.

Lu Li watched Gu Wei’s back, contemplating the matters concerning the mecha.

Certain technologies related to mecha can be provided for Gu Wei’s team to research.

But as for the miniature reactors or weapons related to ”volcanic ash rock” subatomic particles, they absolutely cannot be provided at the present time.

Firstly, Gu Wei and the people behind him don’t have ”volcanic ash rock” subatomic particles, so even if the technology is given to them, it wouldn’t be useful.

Secondly, and most critically, the ”volcanic ash rock” subatomic particles currently pose a relatively significant threat to me.

Lu Li thought it through and decided to hand over some of the mecha technologies that were excluded during his previous simulation processes.

This way, Huaxia’s mecha technology can reach a threshold without compromising his own safety.

”Although a single artificial satellite cannot completely cover the entire Earth’s surface, it’s sufficient for now.”

Lu Li had looked up the data and knew that a slightly larger artificial satellite could cover an area of up to 163 million square kilometers, and three artificial satellites could cover the globe.

Even a smaller artificial satellite covers an area of 300,000 square kilometers, equivalent to fifty times the size of Shanghai.

Although what Lu Li wanted to do this time was quite sensational, the required satellite coverage area did not need to be large; covering 300,000 square kilometers was completely sufficient.

...

Late at night, in Beijing.

An imposing elderly man was on the phone with Gu Wei.

Already in bed and ready to rest, the old man placed the specialized telephone receiver to his ear and softly asked, ”Xiaogu, is there something important for you to call so late?”

On the other end of the line, Gu Wei said, ”Boss, I need access to a large communications satellite, and I’m reporting to you first.”

The old man was slightly startled, his gaze sharp, ”Is it for Mr. Lu?”

Gu Wei admitted, ”Yes.”

The old man inquired further, ”What’s he going to do with the satellite?”

Gu Wei laughed bitterly, ”I promised Mr. Lu not to mention this to anyone, but one thing I can tell you: if I help Mr. Lu this time, we might gain access to technology beyond our current era, the kind that only appears in sci-fi films.”

The old man confirmed, ”Technology that only appears in sci-fi movies?”

Gu Wei replied with certainty, ”Yes, sci-fi technology.”

The old man decisively said, ”Alright, grant him access to the satellite. Besides, although I don’t know what he intends to do, make sure you persuade him not to do anything dreadful; otherwise, it would be beyond my control. Also, you not talking is your business; my monitoring is my business. Please relay this message too.”

Gu Wei replied with a peculiar tone, ”You may not be able to monitor it, hmm, I can’t explain the reason now, but you will understand later.”

Unable to monitor it?

After hanging up the phone, the old man leaned back against the bedhead, deep in thought for a long time.

Gradually, he seemed to think of something terrifying.

Startled at the thought, the old man pondered whether Lu Li might do something even more terrifying than what happened in Mexico last time.

With this thought, the old man couldn’t sleep. He hurriedly picked up the phone by his side and dialed another number, ”Send someone to watch Mr. Lu right away, report any movement to me immediately, hurry! There could be big trouble brewing!”

After that call, his right hand, which had been holding the receiver, was trembling.

The old man knew that there was a very good chance Lu Li would cause significant trouble this time.

At the same time, for him, this might also be a significant opportunity that is impossible to seek but only to encounter.

...

The next morning, at nine o’clock.

In Shanghai, at the satellite control center.

Gu Wei accompanied Lu Li inside, introducing, ”This time, the satellite I’ve secured for you is relatively large, with a coverage of several million square kilometers. And, as per your request, I’ve canceled all other assignments for this satellite. You are free to use it. Would you like me to explain the specific operations of the satellite to you?”

Lu Li glanced at the control room full of dozens of computers and instruments, waved his hand, and said, ”No need, I know how to operate it.”

Speaking, he seemed to be feeling something.

A ”particle stream” appeared.

In the palm of his hand, something resembling a game console controller began to take shape.

Once the ”game controller” had formed, Lu Li started making adjustments.

Gu Wei asked somewhat puzzled, ”Mr. Lu, what is that controller for?”

While Lu Li was calibrating the signals, he casually replied, ”Oh, it’s for controlling mecha.”

Gu Wei nearly fainted to the ground, ”What? You control mecha with a game controller?”

Lu Li absentmindedly replied, ”This way is simpler. Isn’t Old Ugly’s aircraft carrier controlled using a controller? What’s so strange?”

Saying this, he saw that the small display screen on the ”game controller” had connected to the control system of ”No-Beef Number One.”

Lu Li looked up with a radiant smile, ”Old Gu, didn’t you say before that your boss insisted on monitoring me?”

Gu Wei instinctively nodded, ”Yes, he did say that; are you unhappy about it?”

”Not at all.” Lu Li started to manipulate the controller, his face showing an inexplicable smile, ”Tell him I’m going to test something more terrifying than a nuclear weapon, and let’s see if he can detect it!”
