Counterfeit Hero

Sometimes, they even wanted to open Fatty’s brain to see what else he had hidden in there.

”We need to finish the disruption before Kubo wakes up and before the situation in Free Port completely deteriorates, and we need your cooperation for that.” Fatty slowly extinguished his cigarette: ”Have you watched TV? The small-scale conflict between the Saleria Federation and the Suss Empire has already affected the free docks and space stations of several public star systems. In two weeks, it will be the civilian factions’ quadrennial championship. Both Absolute Kill Stream and Mountain Breaker Sect are in contact with the Western Alliance; they’ve long wanted to make a move on Tai Sect. The mercenary troops and pirate groups of Mars Free Port are all expanding their power, and the friction between them is growing. The plutocrats and the black society forces are also stirring. Now, I’ve opened a crack in this water-filled dam, and what we need next is a set of stunning combination punches...”

”Perhaps, as a Level 1 Mecha Commander, Lundel had never imagined that one day he would be defeated purely by technique, piloting a mecha whose engine couldn’t operate at full power. But, he was still defeated. From the very first second the battle broke out, the new Director of Tai Sect launched a relentless and fiercely aggressive attack characteristic of Tai Sect’s ferocity, completely overwhelming Lundel.

As a literary journalist, I truly cannot describe the scene at that time. I can only tell everyone, including myself, that everyone present was stupefied. We had only one question: to pilot such a mecha and perform such tidal wave-like attacks, how fast must Tai Sect Director Guo’s hand speed be?!

Sixty-five moves per second, maybe even seventy moves per second?

Incomprehensible!”

Kubo stared blankly at the Mars Daily in his hands.

This newspaper had now gone crazy in sales all over Mars Free Port.

All the reports in the newspaper centered around one thing: Tai Sect’s thunderous challenge.

Setting aside other factors, Tai Sect’s streak of victories smashing through the Nine Halls indeed brought them into the limelight. Now, the entire Free World had started to re-evaluate Tai Sect. The hottest topic among people was Tai Sect. Interviewers, registrants, and various others were flocking to their doors.

To put it bluntly, Tai Sect’s reputation was at its peak at this moment.

If Kubo had been in command of the operation himself, he would be sitting at a celebration banquet, raising a toast to Fatty, and feeling elated right now.

But at this moment, Kubo wanted to strangle this damned Fei Alliance scammer with his own hands.

Of course, that was only a thought.

Even if this Fatty didn’t have a Fei Alliance background, Kubo had no reason to make a move against him now. To most members of Tai Sect, this new elder, Director of the Puluo Branch, had already become Tai Sect’s hero. What he did were things that the audacious members of Tai Sect had always wanted to do but couldn’t.

One must know, despite being ranked as the third major school in Mars Free Port, Tai Sect had long been criticized for a key weakness in their faction: their mecha fighting skills.

Few other factions acknowledged the superiority of Tai Sect’s skills. In everyone’s eyes, Tai Sect was merely a faction that relied on a gang of desperados and other means to attain their third-place position.

Even Tai Sect’s highest-tier Second-level Mecha War God Weii Jianshan and Level 3 Mecha War God Nakagawa Daiki were never taken seriously by the veteran factions with deep-seated mecha skill traditions.

In the quadrennial championship, if it weren’t for Weii Jianshan and Nakagawa Daiki, Tai Sect probably wouldn’t even make it to the top eight. Even Monroe, who advanced to Level 1 Mecha Commander four years ago, was defeated by a Second-level Mecha Commander of the Mountain Breaker Sect.

Why had Tai Sect struggled to make a breakthrough in the gold mine of Puluo Town?

It was because of this reason!

But now, that Fatty single-handedly swept through the entire First Avenue of Puluo Town.

The previously bustling fighting arenas of various major factions had now closed down! Looking at First Avenue now, it was dark and desolate.

The only place with its doors wide open was Tai Sect!

For the ordinary members of Tai Sect, what could be more exhilarating than this?

If anyone dared to say Tai Sect’s skills were lousy, they would slam the Mars Daily into their face and spit on them!

The lower ranks were lively, and the upper ranks weren’t idle either. Even though the elders of Tai Sect knew that this challenge could bring both fortune and misfortune, the Third Elder Sankey, the Fourth Elder Geoffrey, and the Seventh Elder Weii Jianshan had already rushed to Puluo Town when Fatty took down the third hall. Known for their maniacal obsession with mecha fighting skills, they wouldn’t stand by and watch anyone harm Fatty at this moment.

Meanwhile, the Great Elder Iz and the Second Elder Yap had a clear stance, understood by Kubo: ”The man you, Kubo, brought in, and the trouble you, Kubo, caused—you figure out how to handle it.”

Even the Eighth Elder Nakagawa Daiki, who had been closest to Kubo and had his nephew killed by Fatty, was secretly plotting his ambitions.

The remaining elders in Tai Sect were just figureheads.

Putting down the newspaper, Kubo stared at the ceiling in a daze. He knew that if he wasn’t careful, this incident wouldn’t just result in a ruined reputation. Whether it was the Western Alliance or the Fei Alliance, Tai Sect couldn’t afford to provoke them at the moment. No one really knew what background Fatty had, what forces the Fei Alliance had secretly planted.
