Counterfeit Hero

”Survive!”

Helen couldn’t remember how long she had been in a daze at that moment, or how she had looked at Fatty.

Only those who have truly experienced war, truly experienced despair, will understand how vastly different real war is from novels and movies.

Humans only appreciate the beauty of peace when faced with the reality of war. Thinking back now, the life of shopping, listening to music, traveling with friends, falling in love, and partying was so wonderful.

These are the rights of survival!

To use one’s genes to pass on civilization. For humanity, there is no greater belief than this.

Helen’s gaze involuntarily shifted to Fatty again... Sigh, it’s better to just listen to their conversation. Fatty’s hand was resting on his protruding belly, scratching...

”The odds are still dropping, they’re almost down to one in four.” Barbarossa said. As he spoke, he took a beautifully crafted wooden box from his desk drawer, opened it, and took out a premium Havana cigar produced on Earth. He carefully cut off one end with a cigar cutter and was just about to put it in his mouth when Fatty reached out and snatched it away.

”It’s our turn to strike it rich!” Fatty greedily shoved the cigar into his mouth and lit it, puffing away with smoke pouring out of his seven orifices.

”Klaus has already prepared the money.” Barbarossa reluctantly took out another cigar: ”When the odds reach one in five, he’ll place the bet. A total of one billion Fei Yuan!”

”Short-sighted!” Fatty curled his lip, the cigar in his mouth turning from side to side: ”It’s just a cruiser, get an aircraft carrier and they’ll be completely dumbfounded.”

”To you, a cruiser is nothing.” Barbarossa sighed: ”But to the Free World, which is under weapon embargo, all ships and mechas must be developed and produced by themselves, relying on civilian shipyards and mecha manufacturers. Even if they can get decommissioned military ships, it’s impossible to get the full set of military equipment.”

Lighting his cigar, Barbarossa continued, ”To enhance their strength and obtain military equipment, many commerce groups and pirate groups, mercenaries will spare no expense. In the Free World, such items are always in short supply. Whoever tries to save money will fall behind and get beaten. Enemies and competitors are always watching you closely.”

”Oh?” Fatty showed interest: ”In some designs, civilian mechas are even ahead of military mechas. Why is the gap so big in weapons and ships?”

”Because of technical and resource limitations.” Barbarossa said: ”For countries worldwide, military technology and resources are strictly controlled. This, you should understand better than me. And the Free World has no resources. There are the best mechanics and experts in various fields here, but because of the balance rules of the Free World itself and the control of the Free World by the Supreme Joint Council, no one dares to overstep boundaries except for some small weapons.”

”That’s true.” Fatty nodded: ”Under the control of the Human Supreme Council, there are already so many pirates in the Free World. If you were allowed to have advanced military weapons, what would happen then?”

”However...” Barbarossa said: ”This kind of control has almost disappeared. The Human Supreme Joint Council is now almost nominal. The regulated resources falling into the Free World from various channels have exploded. In a short time, the entire Free World will be plunged into chaotic reshuffling. Now, it just depends on whose moves are faster!”

”So, do you think the mechas and warships we’ve recently completed have a market?” Fatty puffed out a thick cloud of smoke.

”Yes!” Barbarossa nodded firmly: ”If people knew our current equipment, the odds might even reverse! To make money, selling weapons is indeed a good path, but can these things be mass-produced? You have to know, soon we will face competition from military equipment drifting out of Saleria and equipment developed by the Free World with Western Alliance support simultaneously.”

”Those things...” Fatty arrogantly crossed his legs: ”How can they compare with my designs? What others can’t do, I can! As long as there’s money, I dare to build anything!”

”Money?” Barbarossa laughed: ”Once you take down the Demon’s Eye and assert your dominance in the Free World, you’ll see that this world is filled with money!”

”No, no, no.” Fatty shook his head: ”The one rising strongly won’t be me. It’s you.”

”Why?” Barbarossa looked at Fatty in confusion.

”Becoming the puppet master...” Fatty stretched out a chubby hand, admiring it, flipping it back and forth with great affection: ”is my real love.”

”Besides, your identity allows you to cooperate with both the Fei Alliance and the Western Alliance.” Fatty raised his eyebrows, his sinister smile leaving Helen stunned: ”I won’t miss any opportunity to profit. At that time, it’d be best if we could split internally, secretly fighting each other with deep animosity, one side leaning on the Fei Alliance and the other side on the Western Alliance, fiercely making a killing!”

”Ally with the Western Alliance?” Barbarossa said blankly: ”That’s not something that can be done casually. Are you planning to target Fei Alliance’s ships?”

”Why not?” Fatty puffed his cigar and sneered: ”I’ve long wanted to rob Feiyang Republic’s ships!”

”Not even sparing your own people?” Barbarossa’s gaze became somewhat scattered, feeling that the Fatty in front of him was the real pirate. Ruthless and turning faces faster than flipping a book.
