Counterfeit Hero

”Hmm.” Kubo nodded without saying a word, his expression somewhat displeased. He had no choice but to approach this short, fat man from the Tai Sect who had the widest connections. He had already inquired about everything he could in the Free Port using his own network. No one knew this fatty. Clearly, he wasn’t from the Free Port.

To investigate someone outside of the Free Port, it’s not something a mecha fighting faction could easily accomplish. After all, factions are more skilled in internal affairs rather than intelligence gathering. It’s challenging to identify people across different sectors unless they belong to the private mecha faction.

Yap glanced at the cigar in his hand, a flash of craftiness appearing in his droopy eyes, and remarked seemingly unintentionally, ”Due to our cancellation of the challenge with the Phantom Stream these past days, there’s been some gossip among the lower ranks. The little bastards aren’t as obedient as before. What exactly happened? Is it related to this fatty?”

”Why should I tell you anything?” Kubo snorted inwardly, giving Yap, who appeared utterly unguarded, a fleeting glance before resting his head against the back of the chair without a word.

The Second Elder Yap sneered internally at the sight. In the conniving Tai Sect, everyone knew that Kubo had suffered a significant loss, leading to the compromise with Phantom Stream. However, no one knew the exact details of that loss.

Kubo had dominated the Tai Sect for many years, always strong and watertight. This incident piqued many people’s curiosity to uncover the truth, including Yap. He was already suspicious of the suddenly appearing fatty amidst the odd occurrences of the past few days.

Both men were deep in thought, and the room fell into silence.

”By the way...” Yap broke the silence with a muffled voice, ”The Fierce Bear Association has almost completed its preliminary work with the Galaxy Mecha Manufacturing Company. Galaxy Mecha Company has already been pushed to the brink by accumulating interest debts. If we don’t act soon, I fear the young owner might hang himself, scattering the rest of the people.”

Kubo rubbed his temples. The Galaxy Mecha Manufacturing Company Yap mentioned was a small mecha manufacturing enterprise in Mars Free Port. Despite its modest strength, it had unique achievements in mecha design and manufacturing. Over the past thirty years, the generations of mechas designed and produced by this company were considered classics among contemporary private mechas.

The reason behind this success was Galaxy Mecha Company having a group of loyal and talented mechanics and engineers. Especially Hann Mingxia, the chief designer who served the company for twenty full years, was a renowned mechanical master in the mechanical world. He designed the mainstay mechas for the Tai Sect, Absolute Kill Stream, and Mingxin Sect.

If not for the previous owner of Galaxy Company passing away and leaving an innocent and naive successor who gambled away the family’s fortune, the company wouldn’t have gotten involved with the Tai Sect. Countless large manufacturing enterprises had attempted to acquire this company but were all declined by the previous owner.

Finally having this opportunity, Kubo naturally didn’t want to see any further changes. By any means, he had to seize all the production lines and the associated mechanics of the company! With Galaxy Company, the mechanical enterprises controlled by the Tai Sect would immediately step up a notch. Once the alliance with the Western Territory was settled, with their technical support, these enterprises could transform into military factories for the Tai Sect!

Kubo had been planning this for a long time.

”Tell that stupid bear that I’ll personally close the net!” Kubo crushed the cigar into unrecognizable pieces in the ashtray, his fingers turning pale with force. He decided to vent his anger from the humiliation within the Phantom Stream on the poor young owner of the mecha company.
