Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 500: Volume 6 Chapter 8 Murder

The military two-wheel off-road flying car glided silently down the desolate highway.

From the window, the bustling capital, once filled with traffic, now showed signs of weariness due to the ongoing war.

The pedestrians on the streets were few, and the number of civilian flying cars on the highway had significantly decreased. In the distance, towering skyscrapers and a few immense Space Cities stood silently, their dim exteriors no longer displaying the vibrant splendor of a few years ago.

The flying car turned into a high-speed lane closed off by military police, smoothly floating along the metal magnetic line. Before long, it reached the base of the Federation Army First Armored Division.

The First Armored Division is currently the Federation’s only five-star special grade main battle division. Its predecessor was the Third Division of the insurgent forces during the Leray Independence War, renowned nationally for its distinguished achievements.

This was the armored division that, at the crucial moment, seized a fleeting opportunity amid chaos, forcibly broke through enemy lines, and first captured the Nademick Dynasty’s imperial palace, announcing the downfall of this dynasty and the independence of the Leray Federation.

The flying car moved noiselessly within the base, and one by one, the new mechas appeared before Fatty’s eyes.

With tear-filled eyes, Fatty looked around curiously like a child, his attention entirely captured by the new mechas on the training ground, causing several officers to shake their heads.

After passing several security checkpoints, the flying car finally stopped in a well-guarded garden. The small building in the garden was the location of the Leray National Defense War Supreme Command Department.

Fatty turned his head and saw, standing outside the small building, Vice Admiral Mihailovich, Admiral Russell, Admiral Bernadotte, and Federation President Hamilton, all smiling as they looked at the parked flying car.

”Doesn’t seem like they’re here to reprimand me,” Fatty was momentarily stunned. As he pushed open the car door, the tears on his face vanished in an instant, without needing to be wiped away, stunning the officer beside him.

Seeing Fatty step out of the car and hesitantly stand by the door, the usually stern Russell quickly walked up, speeding up as he approached. Just as Fatty, trembling and dumbfounded, stood there petrified, Russell gave him a Kentai Clan-style hug.

”Thank you!” Russell’s voice was filled with gratitude. For a soldier who had dedicated his life to national liberation, no other words could express his emotions.

With Russell’s thanks, the heart that had been in turmoil suddenly settled in Fatty’s chest.

When Hamilton and the others came up, they saw a composed soldier. Standing at attention, he saluted with military precision.

”Tian Xingjian of the Leray Federation Army reporting as ordered!” Fatty’s face bore a weary but determined look.

Bernadotte and Mihailovich smiled at each other after returning the salute. No one understood better than them what kind of person this rascal Fatty was. The Deputy Commander could not help but touch his face, vividly recalling the time over a year ago when Fatty had spat a mouthful of saliva in his face in a bar in Gallipalan.

Hamilton tightly grasped Fatty’s hand and said loudly, ”Welcome back, General Tian!”

Fatty, neither overbearing nor servile, smiled and replied, ”Thank you!”

”You’ve done a great service for the Leray Federation!” Hamilton laughed, ”Without you, we couldn’t have brought that Emperor from Gazalin here. How was it? You had quite a hard time in Gazalin, didn’t you?”

Fatty remained calm and composed, ”For my country, I am willing to give everything! It is the destiny of a professional soldier! Tian Xingjian will die a thousand deaths without hesitation!”

The officers who had accompanied Fatty to this location, excited and thrilled when welcoming the hero earlier, were now drenched in sweat. They desperately wanted to rush over and beat up this shameless Fatty who had been sobbing in the flying car moments ago. Despicable! This damn Fatty must be an imposter!

”Let’s go inside,” Mihailovich suggested with a smile, leading the group into the small building. In the midst of the crowd, Fatty walked up the steps with a straight and upright posture, looking more like an officer than the generals beside him.

Once seated in Mihailovich’s office, after inquiring about Fatty’s experiences in Gazalin, Hamilton’s smile faded slightly, and he changed the topic, ”General Tian, we have reviewed your actions in Gazalin. The accusations made by Admiral Fiscella of the Expeditionary Army Headquarters against you are indeed true, and this has been confirmed by the Allied General Command as well...”

Fatty was stupefied upon hearing this, looking around to see the generals had already lost their smiles, drinking tea with serious faces. His heart raced, and the determined expression of a professional soldier crumbled as he pitifully gazed at Hamilton, waiting for him to continue.

Hamilton took a sip of tea. Seeing Fatty’s pitiful expression, he suddenly spat out the tea he had just drunk, coughing uncontrollably.

Fatty blinked innocently.

Hamilton almost wanted to slap that fat face right in front of him. He had been skeptical when the generals told him about this Fatty. How could such a despicable Fatty accomplish so many sensational and heroic feats?

Yet now, that fat face was right in front of him, less than a meter away, looking at him with an innocent, slightly ingratiating expression. From a determined and stern soldier to an innocent and pitiable Fatty, this guy effortlessly switched expressions with masterful skill.
