Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 482: Volume Five, Chapter 75: Two Video Clips

”First Company.” Rek opened the communication channel: ”Adopt a wave attack. Your mission is to break through the industrial area in a straight line and occupy the lightweight building material factory in the Southern District. After that, don’t worry, Second Company will provide you with cover.”

”Yes!” First Company Commander quickly responded. He pulled the control lever, and the mecha took a large step forward. The already assembled team quickly followed. With the roar of engines, the mecha group surged out of the defensive line like a tide, running faster and faster.

The tactic formulated by Rek was the wave attack commonly used by the Hunter Corps. As the first wave of the attacking units, they had only one task, which was to capture important targets in the shortest time. As for the flanks and rear, they didn’t bother at all, since the second and third waves of attacking units would naturally provide cover.

The performance of the Ninth Generation [Warhammer] made such a wave attack invincible. Often, the enemy would completely collapse under such a powerful attack.

First Company, with over a hundred mechas, formed three triangle attack formations, one in front and two behind. Despite the increasing speed, they did not scatter. Every step of each mecha was on the rhythm points memorized through countless trainings and battles.

No need for flying flags, no need for resounding war drums, and no fierce artillery fire. These over a hundred mechas, rushing forward, naturally exuded a grand momentum of overwhelming force just by their running.

First Company quickly crossed the open ground outside the Southern District. When a squad of mechas served as the vanguard and first entered Highway No. 3 leading to the lightweight building material factory, their target became very obvious. Seeing these Desic Mechas advancing in a straight line towards the ruins of the building material factory on the hillside instead of marching along Highway No. 2, the hidden Leray people in the industrial area seemed to panic.

The lightweight building material factory on the high ground was the highest point of the entire industrial area! There were only ten mechas defending there.

Dozens of [Warrior] mechas near the Southern District, disregarding their exposed positions, ran wildly along another route towards the lightweight building material factory. They attempted to intercept First Company’s advance halfway.

Seeing the panicked Leray people rushing out from their hiding places, Rek laughed heartily. These clumsy and laughable Leray people, only caring about their own schemes, imagined dragging the First Battalion into urban warfare to offset their mecha disadvantages. But they didn’t expect that Rek had already hit their fatal weakness in one move!

The First Battalion, with absolute superiority in both manpower and mechas, had no need to tangle with these rat-like broken mechas in the maze-like ruins. As long as they occupied the high ground of the Southern District, the follow-up troops could use oppressive attacks, combined with the precise fire strikes and extensive fire coverage from the high ground, to eliminate the hidden Leray mechas one by one.

First Company’s speed increased rapidly; the narrow road covered by ruins did not slow them down. Each [Warhammer] was leaping and advancing through the ruins, as light and nimble as a herd of antelopes leaping over obstacles.

On their left flank, dozens of [Warrior] mechas were rushing in, their speed far inferior to the [Warhammer], but they had the advantage of a shorter distance. At this moment, racing towards certain death, the gap between them and First Company was closing. It was evident that both sides would collide when First Company took the right-side uphill road.

”Hmph!” First Company Commander glanced at the left flank, snorted coldly, and a menacing smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. His task was to take the lightweight building material factory. The Leray mechas attempting to intercept them were originally supposed to be handled by the Second Company behind them. This fact actually made him somewhat frustrated.

But now it seemed there was no need to wait for the Second Company; in a few minutes, First Company could righteously turn those [Warriors] into their own achievements. Second Company? Let them watch and envy from behind!

The distance between both sides was closing. Through the gaps in the chaotic ruins, the mechas on both sides appeared intermittently. Just as First Company was about to reach the crossroad, with a ”boom”, a [Warhammer] at the forefront of the formation suddenly turned into a fireball.

This sudden attack shocked the entire First Company. A Ninth Generation [Warhammer] being destroyed so abruptly in front of them defied all logic!

”Boom! Boom! Boom!...” A series of explosions followed. This time, it was the Second Company at First Company’s rear left. Watching Second Company’s location being surrounded by horrifyingly dense explosions, all the soldiers of First Company were in a state of shock!

It was the sound of mecha landmines, the very place First Company had just passed through!

Before the soldiers of First Company could fully realize the hellish scene of flames and explosions, countless mechas emerged from the ruins, workshops, and behind buildings, appearing before them. The next second, a barrage of energy cannons and missiles swept towards them.

”Disperse... Take cover!” First Company Commander roared. He realized they had walked into a trap and could only instinctively give orders. But exposed in the enemy’s precise firepower circle, where could the soldiers hide?

The artillery fire immediately raised a cloud of dust in the sky.

Violent explosions lifted debris and rubble into the air, shrouding the sky.

The sounds of explosions merged into one. Red and white energy bullets flew in crisscross patterns. Whistling tracking missiles curved down from the sky and struck.

No one expected such seamless coordination among the Leray mechas, such precise shooting, and such accurate fire control! One after another, the [Warhammer] mechas were hit by energy bullets from all directions. Amid the flickering and changing energy shields, they eventually turned into fireballs in the explosions, like a string of ignited firecrackers.

In this narrow area, there’s not even a place to hide!

”Charge!” The First Company Commander, unwilling to sit and await doom, quickly made a decision. Dozens of mechas under his command charged towards the crossroad where dozens of [Warriors] were crazily pouring fire. Only by leveraging the Ninth Generation Mecha’s advantages and completely dispersing the enemy’s fire circle could they find a slim chance for survival!

It was an extremely difficult journey. In just a few hundred meters, more than ten mechas fell under the swift and coordinated concentrated fire of the Leray people.

”Kill!” The First Company Commander roared wildly, and in the final sprint, his mecha leaped with all its might toward a [Warrior Leader] in front!

Rek painfully closed his eyes. More than forty [Warhammers] that reached the enemy were chopped down like vegetables by those dilapidated [Warriors]. The strength, speed, and agility displayed by those [Warriors] were definitely not something a Seventh Generation Mecha could possess.

They were a pack of wolves in sheep’s clothing! Twenty minutes. In just twenty minutes, a fully equipped battalion armed with Ninth Generation Mecha was annihilated!

This was a mistake. This mistake was forged the moment he underestimated the enemy. What two hundred mechas... The cunning enemy had hidden a full two battalions here! As for why his own [Backdrop] was deceived, Rek already understood when he saw those twenty Eighth Generation [Listenings] of the enemy.

Both were Eighth Generation electronic mechas, and many electronic measures of [Listening] were similar to [Backdrop]. Using [Listening] to deceive [Backdrop] was really not a task requiring much technical content.

And that seemingly careless high point was precisely the bait used by the Leray people to lure the First Battalion. The road to the high ground was full of traps.

”Kill me!” Rek quietly looked at the Leray mecha beside him.

The First Company had already been wiped out. The Third Company, following to its right rear side, also encountered the same ambush. Only the Second Company, which stepped into the enemy’s meticulously designed minefield, had less than one-third of its mechas struggling desperately amidst heavy siege. As for Rek, he was captured by more than ten ferocious Leray mechas right at the start of the battle.

Rek was somewhat confused. He didn’t understand how these old Seventh Generation Mechas had such formidable strength, and he didn’t understand why the control level of these mechanical warriors was so high!

In their bizarre close combat, the guard squad protecting Rek was completely taken down within minutes. They didn’t even have a chance to fight back!

However, these were not things Rek needed to consider anymore. Such a crushing defeat, he only wished for death.

”We will release you!” A short colonel smiled at Rek. His words surprised Rek: ”You only need to bring two videos back to your division commander. I think this will have some benefits for you.”

Rek saw the video. In the video, Stephen had a hole blown into his head by a fat sniper.

Rek sneered, ”Even if Stephen is dead, your Prisk is also gone. As long as Gazalin’s group of foolish nobles can hold on for a few more hours, we can turn the tide.” He looked disdainfully at the short colonel: ”You think our division commander will retreat just based on this video? Naive!”

The colonel still smiled, showing no anger: ”I said, there are two videos. You’ve only seen one; there’s still another one!”

Rek then watched the other video, and in infinite shock, he finally had nothing to say.

In the video, that Fatty somehow obtained a [Holy Sword] 18 Mecha. Moreover, during the search everywhere, this mecha calmly followed a shift-changing group of soldiers into the base while chatting and laughing.

When he saw the white-haired old noble who was speaking at the forefront of the gathering 39th Division, he piloted the mecha and charged up, crushing the old noble into a pulp in front of everyone!

The video ended there. Rek was stunned by this Fatty’s ferocity, and he stuttered and asked, ”Is he dead?”

A strange expression appeared on the short Leray colonel’s face: ”He’s on the run!”
