Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 485: Volume 5, Chapter 77: Heaven’s Fury, People’s Resentment_2

As a division commander, he personally took risks. Such soldiers are the most iron-blooded, the most pure soldiers!

In future wars, Feiyang soldiers should put aside some pride and humbly retrain themselves. Use blood and undiscounted victories to earn others’ respect.

”General!” A combat staff officer’s report interrupted Douglas’s thoughts: ”Ninety kilometers east of Jiacuo, a large enemy armored unit has been detected. Preliminary estimates suggest it has the strength of a division. They are now moving quickly toward Jiacuo.”

”At this time?” Douglas frowned. The Stephen Group’s defeat at Jiacuo was already settled. The routed soldiers filled every road east of Jiacuo. At this time, what could the enemy armored unit possibly achieve by coming over here? It would only add chaos to chaos. No need to fight, just the panic of the fleeing soldiers could drive them back!

Douglas stood up and walked quickly to the central information platform, saying, ”Implement SkyNet monitoring on this unit, get the visuals on the screen.”

Under the operation of the combat staff officer, the visuals were quickly displayed. On the left side of the No.6 Resource Highway, less than three kilometers away in the hilly area, mechas surged like a tidal wave, rolling towards Jiacuo. Along the defensive positions on the No.6 Resource Highway, countless soldiers and a few mechas emerged from their positions, approaching the front of the armored unit.

Douglas and the military staff all frowned. No matter how they looked at it, the enemy’s actions were illogical. The armored unit rushing towards Jiacuo didn’t maintain any formation. No armored division would march in such a manner. Their front and rear distances stretched tens of kilometers in the jungle, scattered in disarray. Even fleeing routed soldiers would be better organized!

Moreover, in front of this armored unit, those infantry and a few mechas continually encircling them acted strangely, as if their purpose was to block this unit from reinforcing Jiacuo.

After watching for a while, no one could make sense of it. Suddenly, a combat staff officer pointed to the screen and shouted, ”Magnify this, look at that mecha!”

The image was magnified, and a Gazalin Standard [Holy Sword] 18 individual human-shaped mecha appeared in front of everyone. Watching this mecha leading the charge, changing directions sporadically, with energy bullets occasionally landing nearby, everyone understood.

The thousands of mechas spanning tens of kilometers were not reinforcing Jiacuo at all. They were chasing this [Holy Sword] 18. And the soldiers along the No.6 Resource Highway left their positions to block this [Holy Sword] 18 as well!

”What did he do?” a combat staff officer gaped.

No one answered his question. Because no one else knew what this Gazalin mecha had done to provoke such furious pursuit.

This armored division must know the situation at Jiacuo. Yet, they seemed to think that chasing this [Holy Sword] was more important than reinforcing Jiacuo.

The frontline command post was silent. Everyone was both puzzled and curious. Watching this mecha darting around under encirclement and interception, they felt tense yet intrigued.

”We’re in trouble!” that combat staff officer sighed.

On the central information platform’s virtual screen, two [Holy Sword] 16-B mechas from the front line had already intercepted the fleeing mecha. One against two, this mecha was already at a disadvantage, and the pursuing troops would soon catch up.

To everyone, it seemed this fleeing [Holy Sword] 18 had no chance to continue running. It would be caught and torn apart by thousands of pursuers, paying for what it had done.

On the screen, the two intercepting mechas charged at the [Holy Sword] 18 from left and right.

”I really want to know what this mecha has done.” the combat staff officer remarked, ”To be hunted like this, it must have done something outrageous.”

The two intercepting mechas rapidly approached the [Holy Sword] 18.

The [Holy Sword] 18 seemed to hesitate, slowing down a short distance before the intercepting mechas. The mecha’s body swayed, unsure of which side to break through.

Then... like a bolt of lightning. The [Holy Sword] 18’s hesitant steps suddenly turned into a high-speed dash. The speed was blindingly fast!

You could hear a burst of metallic clashes, rising and falling in an instant.

When the two intercepting mechas fell in near shambles, the [Holy Sword] 18 had already sprinted over a hundred meters.

”Wow!” Amid everyone’s extreme shock, the command post erupted into chaos. Everyone’s eyes widened, suddenly realizing that the pilot of this [Holy Sword] 18 was a supreme master!

”General! General!” A staff officer on the left side of the central information platform was loudly calling Douglas amid the commotion: ”You must come and see this!”

Douglas turned his head, first glancing curiously at the staff officer. The officer’s neck veins were bulging, and his face was abnormally flushed. He pointed at the virtual screen in front of him, breathing heavily: ”This... this...”

The staff officer’s strange appearance aroused much curiosity. The staff officers gathered around the central information platform all leaned over to look at his screen.

”This was just sent by the Nineteen Division,” the staff officer finally caught his breath. Yet, he still looked overly excited.

Everyone looked at the virtual screen. On the screen, a fatty was climbing into a [Holy Sword] 18. Hmm? That was the division commander of the Nineteen Division! Next, this fatty infiltrated the base. Then, the fatty slipped away from the patrol soldiers, pretending to head toward the maintenance workshop.

Some staff officers looked at another screen showing the still-fleeing [Holy Sword] 18, getting a faint inkling of understanding.

”Look! Look!” The excited staff officer’s sudden shout startled everyone!

Following the staff officer’s shout... the screen displayed a shocking scene.

The fatty, in broad daylight, under the eyes of all, among thousands of solemn and mighty mechanical warriors. Suddenly made a swift advance, the mecha rolled from the sky and stomped the speaking Gazalin old noble into a pulp!... and that foot even scraped the ground!

There was a rough gasp... everyone was completely dumbfounded! Such blatant murder in public, it was simply unheard of, unbelievable!

In the silence, a combat staff officer suddenly jumped up, pointing at the screen and shouted: ”That was in enemy territory!! Did you think the thousands standing around were pigs?”

The other staff officers also started clamoring, talking all at once: ”Too excessive.”

”Too insolent!”

”Too unreasonable!”

”Too rampant!”

”Damn it, now I know what this guy did to provoke such wrath!”
