Counterfeit Hero

The half-uttered cry made the vanguard at the front of the squad immediately drop to the ground, reflexively reaching for the alert channel on his left hand’s Combat Assistance Device. Unfortunately, just as his hand moved in front of him, a fighting dagger whistled through the foliage, pinning him to the ground.

The jungle fell into a dead silence.

In front of the SkyNet screen, there was also silence. Even the battalion commanders directing their troops against the Desic Armored Division forgot the battlefield of earth-shaking artillery fire before them. Every person felt overwhelmed, mystified.

The ten-man patrol team was entirely wiped out by Fatty in less than thirty seconds, divided into two groups, from start to finish, not one of the ten patrol soldiers saw their enemy, nor did they have any opportunity to retaliate. They didn’t even have a chance to warn!

This was a perfect sniping, one against ten, perfect to the point of disbelief!

Fatty emerged from his hiding place, swiftly descended the hillock, and dragged the second soldier he had killed out of the bushes. Then, he stripped off the battle suit of this tall soldier, undressed himself completely, exposing his pale white flesh, and gazed at himself lovingly for a long while before finally putting on the uniform.

Nia spat and painfully covered her face with her hands. Her eyes sparkled as if she didn’t know whether to be angry or to laugh. After a long while, estimating that Fatty had put on the clothes, she blushed, then deleted that short segment of video from the information table.

As a reporter, Nia’s job was to record everything that happened on the battlefield through imagery. She couldn’t imagine how many admirers of heroes back in Leray Country would be instantly devastated if this footage was sent back.

That damn Fatty, how hateful!

Turning to Bonnie, she saw her standing there seemingly composed. Her left hand clutched her chest while her head hung low, her right hand’s delicate fingers covering her forehead and eyes. Upon closer inspection, a helpless blush crept across her face as well.

The massive Command Mecha walked among the retreating non-combat personnel, heading eastward. Behind them, artillery roared. The Nineteen Division and the 25th Division had already bogged down Desic’s vanguard units. Out of the four Infantry Divisions stationed at the Long Line Ridge Defense Line, two had been dispatched, now moving eastward to reinforce the Tanville North District, delaying the convergence of Desic’s armored forces from both fronts.

However, by this point, both the Nineteen Division and the 25th Division were at their limits, only able to harass and pin the enemy through successive roundabouts by different battalions. When Desic’s three Armored Divisions launched a full-scale assault on Tanville North District, this harassment would no longer be sustainable.

Like playing basketball, no matter how formidable a team is, without enough bench depth, relying on a few main players alone cannot hold out for the entire game. When the strengths of both sides are evenly matched, the side with more stamina and more excellent substitutes is more likely to achieve victory.

Ultimately, the Nineteen Division could not independently confront the numerous fresh troops of Desic. The slim hope was pinned on Fatty. At this moment, the battalion commanders and Bonnie couldn’t fathom what Fatty intended! He risked exposure to eliminate this patrol team, was it merely to disguise himself?

Fatty removed the Combat Assistance Device from the dead soldier’s arm, sat cross-legged, and took a repair mechanical arm from his backpack with his right hand, skillfully disassembling the device. A few minutes later, the device was reactivated. The rectangular screen showed the decrypted patrol task brief and task area map.

After carefully examining the task description and map, Fatty rummaged through the other bodies, confirmed his direction, and in just a few steps, increased his speed to the utmost, darting and leaping through the jungle at lightning speed.

Watching the electrifyingly swift Fatty rushing through the jungle, Bonnie, still stunned by Fatty’s easy decryption techniques, suddenly had an epiphany. Cross-referencing the patrol area map with Fatty’s running route, she finally realized! From the beginning, the sniped patrol team had already provided an easily overlooked piece of information to everyone!

The information was that the reason they left the high ground and were dispatched to patrol this forward region of the defense line was only one, which was the No.6 Resource Highway, ten kilometers away!

Because this was the rear of Jiacuo, an area under absolute electronic control by Stephen’s forces. Without the possibility of large enemy units appearing, soldiers were normally dispatched from the defense line to expand the alert range only when a transport convoy maintaining Jiacuo’s defense logistics line was passing through to guard against disruptions.

This detail, overlooked by everyone else, didn’t escape Fatty’s keen observation. Almost immediately, he made a judgment. Along his forward path, countless such patrol teams were distributed! To traverse the defense line, a Combat Assistance Device was essential!

Only by utilizing the information in the device could he deduce the current positions of other patrol teams, thus successfully avoiding them! More importantly, behind those patrol teams would be the area overlooked by Stephen Group’s SkyNet. This was Fatty’s best route to approach and cross the defense line!

Therefore, encountering the first patrol team, there was absolutely no reason for Fatty, proficient in exceptional sniping techniques, to let it go, a must-fight situation!

The clearer the understanding, the more incredible Bonnie felt. To make such an accurate judgment and calmly execute it in that fleeting moment required what kind of calmness and acuity? Fatty, it seemed, was a natural-born hinterland assassin! What on earth couldn’t he do?

Fatty streaked through the silent jungle speedily and soundlessly, seemingly tireless. His clumsy body was now nimble as a Spirit Cat, dashing and maneuvering through the dense forest hills, faster than a galloping horse.

Soaring Cloud Step, Grass Flying, Snake and Weasel Flipping, Eight Diagram Wandering, Wave Riding Skill, Shenxing Hundred Changes. Running in high spirits, Fatty employed these Qinggong techniques, enhanced with Little Pi’s technology, one after another, spectacularly shocking the people in front of SkyNet into speechlessness.

Several times, it seemed he would crash into a tree, but he turned at a right angle without losing speed. Several times, seeing high slopes and large rocks blocking the way, he lightly leaped over them with a spring of his legs. Through dense forests with nearly no gaps, he maneuvered swiftly through a few twists and turns.

”Qinggong!” a Combat Staff finally exclaimed, unable to keep it to himself. Gesticulating, he said, ”Chinese Kung Fu!”

Everyone exchanged glances. Though they all knew that the Qinggong of ancient China could possibly enhance running speed and agility, they thought roof-leaping and stepping on snow without leaving a trace were but legends. But everything before them offered no other explanation! Could it be that this Fatty, distinctly of Chinese descent, truly possessed the legendary Qinggong?
