Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 483: Volume 5 Chapter 76: So It Was You!

Fatty was indeed on the run.

Even though he considered himself quite a legendary Fatty, under the pursuit of thousands of Mechas, he could only run away.

”What a mess!” Fatty was in tears, sobbing until he was weak all over.

He had completed the seemingly impossible task of assassinating Stephen. The dangers along the way had long worn away his desire to stay longer.

Just thinking about that shot still made Fatty fearful. In fact, when he was hiding in the mud, he embarrassingly peed. Half of it was due to holding it in, and the other half was out of fright. At that time, the Patrol Team was just fifteen meters away from him.

Fifteen meters, that barely counts as a distance! That was practically right under their nose! Fatty still didn’t understand why he took that shot, why he was so foolish!

Could this be the self-inflation that comes with a bit of skill? Fatty wanted to slap himself hard; it was simply an unforgivable mistake!

Even if his hand speed was over seventy, even if his stamina was better and he was faster now. No matter how powerful, could he take down an entire division?

Fatty felt he must thoroughly reflect on the change in his mindset.

He warned himself never to do such things again. Stay low-key and humble; only then can one survive longer. The matter of killing Stephen must also be kept secret. Otherwise, if others find out and next time tell him, ”Fatty, go assassinate Sobel,” wouldn’t he wet his pants right there?

The past is past, and Stephen is already dead. The days ahead should be easier, right?

This is a string of cause-and-effect relationships. Without Stephen, as long as Feiyang’s Armored Division isn’t too lousy, Jiacuo can be taken down.

With Jiacuo’s battle ultimately failing, the Stephen Group absolutely couldn’t stop the unstoppable Expeditionary Army; their collapse was irreversible.

And the Independent Army, led by two old foxes who knew the nobles well, could transform under the banner of democracy or Prince George, coercing, enticing, and dividing the nobles’ forces under Stephen’s command.

The eastern advance of the Desic Armored Forces also lost its meaning. Holding Plisk and clinging to the Reinhardt Group was their best choice. If they insist on moving east, they’ll end up with a bloody clash against six elite Feiyang Armored Divisions.

The Nineteen Division relaxed, the Mezrich Battle was victorious, and the Freedom Front had a broader development space, while Fatty felt no responsibility anymore.

Thinking of this, Fatty felt that if he retired and returned home now, it would be the pinnacle moment of his life.

When he took out two patrolling soldiers who came to him, and grabbed a Mecha, Fatty indeed thought this way. His greatest desire at that time was to quickly leave this hellhole and shamelessly hang out with Bonnie or Nia, seeing if there’s any chance to take advantage and heal his emotional wounds.

Unfortunately, everything took a different path from his ideal after the damned communications channel issued a recall order. Excited team members rushed over, inviting him to return to the base with loud calls. Cold sweat broke out on Fatty, and if not for acting quickly to sink the two corpses into the mud, he would have been exposed!

Ventriloquism worked once more. After impersonating Allen, pretending to look for Sergeant with everyone for half a day. Fatty finally settled the identity recognition in the communications channel, then used the Sergeant’s voice to declare another urgent matter. Everyone happily returned to the base.

The base was already in chaos. Everyone was worried, as if the heavens were about to fall. Search teams, transport convoys, and patrol teams came and went. As soon as Fatty entered the base, he couldn’t be happier. This situation was extremely favorable for him slipping away quietly.

Finally, finding an excuse to repair the Mecha and separated from the patrol soldiers, Fatty drove the Mecha, pretending to head towards the logistics department’s repair workshop.

When passing the arena, things started spiraling out of control.

The 39th Division’s more than six thousand Combat Mechas, thousands of various vehicles, hundreds of logistics Mechas, were densely packed into formations, gathered in the huge arena, listening to a speech by a noble old man.

This noble old man, Fatty recognized him. He was Stephen’s uncle, the most powerful noble in the Gazalin Empire, Grand Duke Victor.

Seeing Stephen dead, Victor could still gather the 39th Division for mobilization; Fatty was somewhat unhappy. Later, upon hearing Victor’s words, Fatty became even angrier.

Victor said, ”Prince Stephen is not dead, nor is his life in danger, only slightly injured, now undergoing treatment...” The rest was a blend of situation analysis and encouragement.

Fatty didn’t listen to the latter part. He was filled with anger at Victor’s blatant lies. He felt his hard-earned efforts had been shamelessly twisted. After all the painstaking effort and immense risk, his achievements had been blotted out by that old man’s casual remark, making Fatty so aggrieved he was in tears.

Who would have guessed Victor’s later words were even more vicious? He angrily condemned the assassin’s despicable actions through every loudspeaker in the base and announced that the assassin would become the public enemy of the Gazalin Royal Family, Gazalin Nobles, and even the entire Vibo Clan.

He waved his arms, swearing that regardless of the ends of the earth, he would capture this despicable assassin and make him pay the heaviest price! He even offered such a great reward that Fatty felt like turning himself in, and declared that the bounty was used to establish a foundation.

This internationally backed foundation meant that even if the Gazalin Empire was destroyed and the Howard family disappeared, it would carry out an eternal hunt order in the days to come!

Heart pounding with fear, Fatty could endure no longer, feeling both aggrieved and enraged. Thinking of the sadness, anger welled up from his heart, giving him the guts.

Gritting his teeth with a hand speed of seventy per second, he maneuvered the Mecha to dash over from 200 meters away, stomping down on Duke Victor who was speaking eloquently. The massive mechanical foot of the 18-ton Holy Sword Mecha instantly squashed Victor into a bloody pulp.

Immediately, Fatty sprinted away!

This was arguably the most audacious public murder in human history, stunning every soldier, officer, general, and noble present, leaving them dumbfounded and their scalp tingling. A commander delivering a public address to thousands of Mechas was stomped dead like a rat by a Mecha that suddenly jumped over.

By the time everyone returned from staring dumbfounded at the gory mess on the stage, Fatty had already dashed to the base entrance. The brief shock of the Mecha Warriors and all Mechas being in non-combat mode provided Fatty with escape time. However, the sentry Mecha at the door and unfamiliar paths shortened this time.

Thus, in the ensuing escape, the near-crazed 39th Division, with hundreds of Advanced Mecha Warriors, chased Fatty closely.

For the Howard family, the campaign could no longer continue. The Duke’s son Ritter issued an all-out pursuit order. All stationed troops at Christers Army Base and all armed forces along Fatty’s flight path joined in this unprecedented massive chase.

As a result, appearing in the SkyNet monitoring of the Nineteen Division was a breakdown-inducing scene. Fatty piloted the Mecha, fleeing wildly at the front. Behind, hundreds of Mechas pursued relentlessly. Further back, thousands more Mechas surged over the hills. In front and on the sides, countless infantry and armored forces abandoned their positions and swarmed in under unified command.

These, for Fatty with a hand speed now at seventy-three, weren’t lethal. His speed was far higher than his pursuers, and the eastern mountainous area, jungles, and hills offered him ample space to flee. However, even with Ritter putting all his forces into pursuit, it would take some time to deal with this swiftly fleeing Mecha.

The greatest blow to Fatty came from a small oversight. After all, this Mecha belonged to the Stephen Group. Though Fatty used Allen’s identity recognition to access and alter the Mecha Control System, he did not know the Mecha had an internal monitoring system.

When hundreds of electronic Mechas simultaneously monitored and communicated with the Holy Sword 18 Fatty drove, he was oblivious until Ritter’s voice appeared in his ears, realizing his intrusion into the enemy’s command system had shown images of himself piloting the Mecha!

Ritter said, ”So it’s you!!!”

Upon realizing it, Fatty sucked his lips into a tiny cherry-like shape, anxiously shouting into his eyes, ”It’s not me!”

This kind of denial naturally had no effect. His face had been exposed under the clear sky. This enraged Fatty to no end. After locating and crushing the internal control system’s camera, Fatty cried bitterly.

Life couldn’t go on.

Weekly promotion chart is actually quite simple, y’know. If everyone tops a few votes on Sunday night, at least it’ll stay within the top ten on Monday or Tuesday, right? Then keep it up and it likely won’t drop out easily. No more nonsense, once the monthly votes are in the top ten, I’ll show some sincerity and try to write more, with occasional double updates.
