Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 458: Volume 5, Chapter 62: Putting All Eggs in One Basket

Exchange the Mecha!

Each Mythical Soldier’s expression was somewhat unnatural. Being pushed to such an extent by the Leray people was unprecedented in the history of the Mythical Army.

This was a complete defeat, a total loss both in terms of strength and spirit.

The comrades behind him were desperately blocking the pursuit of that Magic Beast. They could only delay for a short while. In the frenzied slaughter of that Magic Beast, amidst the surging rage of the Leray Ninth Generation Mechas, one batch after another of the Vajras that turned back to fight never sent any word again.

Reinhardt’s hope of escaping this battle was very slim. At this moment, the idea from his loyal guard was, in the eyes of all Mythical Soldiers, undoubtedly pointing out a humiliating but somewhat hopeful path of survival for Reinhardt at the most dangerous moment.

After exchanging Mechas, who would know which Vajra Reinhardt was in? By the time the Leray people caught up with Apollo, Reinhardt would have already blended into the countless dispersed Vajras and escaped!

However, would the proud Reinhardt walk out of his Mecha? Every Mythical Soldier remained silent, looking complicatedly at the equally silent Apollo. The scene appeared somewhat strange.

Reinhardt quietly looked at his loyal guard, his eyes flickering.

He could call out the names of each of his loyal guards. Like everyone else, this guard, named Jack, came from the small southern town of Guise.

Guise, Reinhardt’s hometown, was a small city with his statue standing erect and taking pride in him. The youth from Vibo there were his most loyal and fervent followers.

Jack’s loyalty was beyond doubt. This was not an insult but a suggestion in a desperate situation. Exchanging Mechas, at this nearly hopeless moment, was undoubtedly the most effective method!

Under the gaze of the Mythical Soldiers, Reinhardt finally made a choice. He slowly opened the cockpit of his Mecha. Now was not the time to play the hero. He knew that after pushing Boge out, he no longer had to worry about anything.

All that mattered now was to stay alive by any means necessary and to seize victory by any means!

Starting the Vajra, Reinhardt took a deep breath, looking at the silent and indifferent Mythical Soldiers, trying hard to suppress a deep-seated sense of humiliation. He licked his lips with difficulty and said in a relaxed tone: ”Ancient China has a saying, ’A true man can bend and stretch.’ One day, we will make those Leray people pay a hundredfold price!....”

”General!” A Mythical Soldier interrupted his unconvincing explanation in a cold tone: ”The enemies pursuing us seem to have retreated.”

”Retreated?” Reinhardt lowered his head and looked at the red markers gradually moving away on the Mecha radar. Then, looking at the Vajra he was driving and the silent Mythical Soldiers around him, he suddenly felt a rush of blood to his head, his face burning as if he had been slapped hard twice, stinging with pain.

***********

”Why is my fate so bitter?” Fatty’s eyes sparkled with tears, his teeth biting his lips hard. His shoulders twitched, his body shaking like a large piece of tender white jelly that had been slapped and wobbled.

On the SkyNet satellite map in front of Fatty, a Desic Giant Transport Ship had already landed at the edge of the Ono Forest, less than a hundred kilometers north of Tanville, near Prisk. Tens of thousands of Desic armored units, supported by Space Fighters, were continuously crossing the empty outer defenses of Prisk, advancing towards the city of Prisk.

Another battle report, just transmitted by Bonnie, indicated that three Desic Armored Divisions, including the Desic Hunter Mecha Group, simultaneously launched an attack on the Tanville North District. The Independent Army Infantry Divisions stationed there suffered heavy casualties.

The Desic people, who had been holding back, finally made their move. Their appearance was undoubtedly a heavy blow to Fatty, who was nearing the climax of pursuing Reinhardt.

The departure of the Expeditionary Army Fleet gave the Desic landing troops a near-unobstructed chance. If not for the Independent Army’s land-based fighters holding them back, they could have directly landed in the Prisk city area!

Even so, a distance of over a hundred kilometers and an outer defense line only manned by an Independent Army Infantry Division posed no challenge for the two landing Desic Armored Divisions.

According to Fatty’s calculations, if the Nineteen Division and the 25th Division didn’t immediately return to help, the two airdropped Desic Armored Divisions could penetrate Prisk’s city area within just ten hours. If the Tanville North District was breached, the three Desic Armored Divisions would block the path between the Nineteen Division, the 25th Division, and Prisk like a gate. By then, the five Desic Armored Divisions would dominate Prisk’s interior and exterior amidst weak resistance, and both the eastern and western combat zones of the Expeditionary Army would face an imminent disaster.

Thus, Fatty could only order a withdrawal with tears in his eyes. Even if Reinhardt had been driven to the brink, he no longer had the time to pursue him. The priority now was to withdraw his armored forces back to Prisk and establish a defense line before the Desic Armored Divisions in the Tanville North District cut off the road between Long Line Ridge and Prisk.

The Leray people began their silent retreat. The forward pursuing units slowed down, sweeping left and right to clear remaining enemies, while the rear units gradually disengaged from the battlefield and moved towards Prisk at high speed. They had to race against the two Desic Armored Divisions to set up the last defense line before Prisk’s outskirts were breached.
