Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 281: Revised: Volume 4 Chapter 45 A Mutual Destruction?

”Lord Jian, how do we proceed?” The question came from a platoon leader of the Freedom Front riding Fatty’s [Hurricane], named Jiasier. When Tian Xingjian first arrived at the base, Jiasier had once challenged him and lost decisively in a direct confrontation. Since then, he had held great respect for this seemingly gentle and plump emissary.

Since Tian Xingjian had completely subdued these unruly Freedom Fighters with his own strength, he had grown much closer to the warriors. Even though the contact had been brief, Fatty’s free-spirited and slightly cunning nature, combined with his book ”Enemy Rear Raid Rules,” was enough for the Freedom Fighters to affectionately call him ”Lord Jian,” according to Chuckna Clan’s customs.

”Take them east first...” Fatty pointed at James, Bonnie, and several captured nobles, as well as the just-released Tou’er and others, ”After ten kilometers, turn south. We can only go on foot now. Although we have taken over the prison’s defense system, I have not yet managed to take control of the entire SkyNet System....”

”Do you think with such an exposed operation you can escape the Mythical Army’s pursuit?” Bonnie stared coldly at Tian Xingjian, sneering, ”With no more than a reinforced battalion at your disposal, how far do you think you can go? Idiot!”

”How far I go is none of your goddamn business!” Fatty snapped, somewhat exasperated. To be honest, he had little confidence in this escape plan—his only leverage was having captured James!

”Keep babbling, and I’ll strip you down and throw you back to Reinhardt!” Fatty threatened viciously.

Fatty knew that this jailbreak had deviated from the original plan from the very beginning.

Sidney’s role had become insignificant at the start of the coup; no faction would care about a Prince who had been locked up for decades. If they continued to follow the original plan, all the suffering they had endured would have been for nothing.

At that moment, he saw an opportunity to change the entire course of the war. With a soldier’s special intuition, he couldn’t let such a chance slip away. But after deciding to capture James and changing the plan, he found himself in even deeper trouble.

Like an impetuous gambler, knowing the hole card was a big one and holding the chance to draw another, he couldn’t resist drawing the card only to find out that playing the hand wasn’t as easy as it seemed.

This wasn’t the first time Tian Xingjian had done something like this. In essence, he was an impulsive person. Just like the last time he rescued prisoners of war, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision. Moreover, this bastard was vain and liked to show off. His nature dictated his random decision-making based on where the situation was darkest.

Fatty neither had deep or long-term strategies, even though he might appear composed. He was a typical fearless ignoramus. When he realized he was in trouble, it was an endless cycle of fear and regretful tears, but he would invariably act on impulse in the heat of the moment.

Listening to Fatty’s shameless threat, Bonnie snorted coldly and turned her head away with a look of contempt, muttering, ”Filthy and shameless idiot Fatty, you’re just leading these people to their deaths! In the end, you won’t be able to save anyone!”

”Honestly, it’s the first time I’ve found you so annoying! It doesn’t match your image of beauty and wisdom at all,” Tian Xingjian said with keen interest while looking at Bonnie.

”Get lost, Fatty, stay away from me. You make me sick just looking at you,” Bonnie felt extremely uneasy under Fatty’s coercive gaze, gritting her teeth as she spoke.

”You’re trying to provoke me!” Fatty continued to stare into Bonnie’s blue eyes.

”Do you deserve it?” Bonnie’s tone remained strong, but her eyes involuntarily flickered away.

”I know what you’re thinking!” Fatty leaned close to Bonnie, ”Your mind must be in turmoil, right? Reinhardt turned out to be James’ illegitimate son, and he betrayed James, and also betrayed you. You must find it hard to accept this reality.....”

Bonnie glared coldly at Fatty’s despicable and hateful face. If her eyes could kill, Fatty would have been chopped into pieces already.

Master psychologist Tian Xingjian continued to analyze without feeling the slightest bit, ”So, your mind must be very complicated right now. The smart and beautiful you, always high and mighty, look down on everyone but Reinhardt. Yet now, you’ve found out that you’ve been captured by someone you utterly despise, and Reinhardt is far from perfect.”

Fatty whispered in Bonnie’s ear, ”You must want to vent, want to scream and shout, wish it were all a nightmare. Unfortunately, you have to keep your composure and calm, relying on attacking me to vent your inner anger and fear. You’re trying to seal yourself up with a hard shell so no one sees your fragility.....”

”You hate me, hate Reinhardt, and hate James. Your faith has collapsed, and you feel incredibly foolish. Your former life has turned into a mirage in the face of harsh reality.... Let me guess, you wish someone could hold you and let you cry on a safe and sturdy shoulder. You wouldn’t even care who that person is... Maybe you want me to hold you...”
