Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 278: Volume 4 Chapter 44 The Boiling Federation

”No way! You can’t go on this mission!”

In Leray Central Television, under the elite media of Wallar, the deputy director of the show ”Hero,” Clemenceau, firmly shook his head and said to Nia.

The blond-haired Clemenceau was a popular movie star in the Leray Federation before the war broke out, known for starring in romance films and was quite favored by some female fans.

After the war broke out, no one paid attention to the soft, tearful, and clingy romance films anymore. Clemenceau’s popularity declined, and he decisively made a series of maneuvers, eventually landing a position as a deputy director in the production department of Wallar’s hit show ”Hero,” occasionally guest-hosting as well.

Besides leveraging the high ratings of ”Hero” to maintain his popularity, Clemenceau shrewdly used the opportunity to merge his image with the war, collecting material and preparing his image to transition into starring in war hero films. With just one movie, he believed he could make a comeback. Recently, investors began approaching him to reconnect with a few war-themed films, which was a good omen.

”Cut it out! Clemenceau, I tell you, I must go this time!” Nia, already out of the Air Force, still liked wearing her female pilot uniform. Hands on her hips, eyes wide open, and fiercely demanded, ”Are you going to give me the war correspondent permit or not? I tell you, if you dare not give it, from today onwards, you won’t have a moment of peace!”

Clemenceau raised his handsome face, flashed a charming smile, and passionately said, ”Nia, do you know how important you are to me? Even if it meant dying right now, I couldn’t bear to see you go to such a dangerous place!”

Nia shivered, helplessly covered her forehead, rolled her eyes, and said: ”Clemenceau, stop reciting movie lines in front of me! Whether I go to dangerous places or not has nothing to do with you. Haven’t the places I’ve been to before been dangerous? Which front haven’t I visited? It’s my job!”

”It’s other people’s job too.” Clemenceau shrugged, feeling frustrated that he couldn’t entice this beautiful and fiery female pilot. To know that previously, just a wave of his hand would bring countless beauties flocking to him. Yet Nia had turned him down countless times.

”I have no control over others. I’m the ace war correspondent here, and I will go!” Nia crossed her arms, raised an eyebrow, and insisted relentlessly.

”No way!” Clemenceau, looking very principled, lowered his head to organize the materials on the desk.

”Are you sure?” Nia said coldly.

”Sure... What are you doing?” Clemenceau looked up to see Nia holding something resembling a grenade, and panickedly exclaimed.

Nia looked at Clemenceau’s panicked expression with contempt in her heart. Why was it that both feared death, yet that Fatty seemed so lovable, while this guy was so disgusting? ”The entire ’Hero’ crew knows what I’ll do, and you don’t?” She turned gracefully to the office door, opened it, and waved the grenade, threateningly, ”Let me go or not?”

Clemenceau felt like he was about to wet himself, and furiously shouted, ”How dare you! I’ll demote you, I’ll report you, and you won’t go anywhere!”

”Try it!” Nia pulled the pin out of the grenade and tossed it in front of Clemenceau before swiftly shutting the door.

With a ”bang” muffled sound, Clemenceau’s terrified scream echoed in the room, and countless heads peeked out curiously along the corridor of the TV station building. Nia stuck out her tongue and made a face, holding the door handle: ”It’s just a tear gas grenade, why scream so miserably?”

The heads immediately retracted once they saw it was Nia.

”Nia?” Caleb, holding a news copy, happened to pass by and seeing Nia’s actions and expression, immediately knew this girl was up to no good again.

As an operation staff member who was rescued back together with Tian Xingjian, Caleb had always admired Tian Xingjian deeply. Since the prisoners underwent psychological treatment and were reassigned, Caleb felt far removed from the war; the only thing connecting him with his past was his work with the ”Hero” program team.

”Clemenceau won’t let me go to Mezrich!” Nia beamed at seeing Caleb, still gripping the door handle tightly, despite Clemenceau banging away from the inside.

”You mean to Lieutenant Tian’s place?” Caleb smiled faintly, casually pulled out a war correspondent permit, and handed it to Nia: ”Why bother with this fool? If you want to go, I can make it happen. If you go to the General Logistics to find General Pete, he can specially approve you to take a whole group of journalists using the military personnel’s journalist identity!”

Caleb was well aware of the matters between Nia and Tian Xingjian. Among the prisoners of war, that chubby Special Soldier Company Commander was the symbol of that period, a benefactor, and a grateful memory not to be forgotten. If it were others, Caleb might reprimand them in his capacity as the military’s appointed director of the ”Hero” program for causing trouble. However, for Nia, and also Meiduo, Caleb and all the prisoners of war unreasonably protected them.

”Let me!” Caleb gestured to Nia, taking the door handle from her.

”One, two, three...” Caleb felt the force pulling on the door from inside and suddenly let go, ”thud,” the forceful Clemenceau ended up falling flat on his back with all four limbs facing up.
