Chapter 255: Volume 4 Chapter 33 Betrayal (13)

”Your Majesty, the Special Security Force of the Royal Investigation Bureau, led by Prince Bruce, is launching an attack on us...” Bonnie got straight to the point as she walked into the room.

”Dear Bonnie.” James turned away from the window: ”Look, I know what’s happening. Don’t worry, what you need to do now is to fend off their attack and wait for reinforcements.”

James’s expression had regained its composure and calmness, but the twitch at the corner of his eye betrayed his inner anger: ”My son is attacking their father, and I don’t know who to trust anymore.” He smiled, an indescribably peculiar smile: ”But I trust you. The Mythical Army has always been trustworthy, hasn’t it?”

Bonnie was stunned for a moment, then nodded, ”Yes, Your Majesty. I am fulfilling my duties.” She turned to look at the silent Philip and hesitantly said, ”Communication has been cut off. My people are certain there’s a powerful interference source on the prison watchtower. They are currently in contact with SkyNet, trying to get assistance. However, I’m a bit puzzled; the nearest garrison is less than thirty kilometers away. They should be aware of the situation here. But...” She glanced at her watch and continued, ”It’s been thirty minutes now, and there’s no news.”

”Oh?” James looked at Bonnie seriously and said, ”Continue.”

Bonnie bit her beautiful lips and uncertainly said, ”If someone dares to attack Your Majesty, I can’t imagine what else they wouldn’t do! I suspect how many people are actually involved in this coup. Right now, I only have the strength of a battalion. If reinforcements don’t arrive within six hours, we’re... without hope.”

James gave Philip a strange look and asked Bonnie, ”What about Reinhardt?”

Bonnie shook her head, ”I haven’t been in contact with the Legion Commander in recent days. All I know is that four days ago, he was still in Biekelan.”

James squinted his eyes and said slowly, ”So, you don’t know that Reinhardt left Biekelan yesterday?”

Bonnie was surprised, ”Is that so? I’ve been here these past days and haven’t received any news.” She visibly breathed a sigh of relief, ”If we can contact the General, that would be ideal.”

James shook his head, ”No, your analysis is very reasonable. With just the few people from the Investigation Bureau, my two beloved sons wouldn’t dare to launch a coup without a solid basis. Placing our hopes on Reinhardt is not a wise decision now.” He lowered his head in thought for a moment, then asked Philip, ”When should the fleet that executed the air-dropping mission to Lucerne return?”

Philip, admiring James’s keen insight, slowly replied, ”It should have been three days ago.”

James’s eyes were shining, ”But, we haven’t received any news about the fleet’s landing on Mezrich, have we?”

Philip remained silent; apparently, he didn’t need to answer that question.

”Very well.” James smiled slightly, ”I sent the troops loyal to them to the front line, and they used this opportunity to transfer back, launching a large-scale coup. The plan is thorough.” He walked back and forth with his hands behind his back, slightly amused, ”How could I not have thought of it? The transport ship can send troops to Lucerne, so it can naturally send them to Mezrich too!”

Bonnie looked at James, unable to accept such a theory for the moment. She also couldn’t understand how, if the situation was indeed as the theory suggested, James could still manage to smile!

”However, they seem to have forgotten that I am the ruler of Gazalin.” James laughed heartily, ”Every minute, every second in my Empire, countless people want to overthrow me! Wouldn’t I prepare something!” He slowly took a silver metal box from his pocket, twirled it between his fingers for a while, then handed it to Bonnie, smiling, ”Look at the emblem on it.”

Bonnie took the box in puzzlement and looked at it, surprised, ”This is the emblem of our legion!”

James shook his head and laughed, ”It looks similar, doesn’t it? However, it’s not the emblem of the Mythical Army; it belongs to the Miracle Army!”

Bonnie and Philip exchanged puzzled glances, both seeing a hint of confusion in each other’s eyes. Did the Gazalin Empire have another Miracle Army?

James looked at their surprised expressions and laughed heartily, ”Every year, so many soldiers retire from the Mythical Army. Have you never wondered where they all go?”

The retirement system for soldiers of the Mythical Army is one of the most unreasonable systems in the Gazalin Empire. These battle-hardened soldiers are the most coveted choices for grassroots officers in ordinary combat units. Yet, no unit has ever managed to get even a single retired soldier from the Mythical Army.

These soldiers, too, did not return to their hometowns to lay down their arms and return to the fields; instead, they became logistics staff directly under the Royal Family. They lived a well-off and leisurely life, working day to day.

Seeing Bonnie and Philip somewhat enlightened, James sat down on the sofa and laughed, ”The predecessor of our Mythical Army was just a logistics unit, so making logistics their retirement has become our tradition.” His smile was slightly eerie, ”But would we waste the experience and combat power of these warriors?”

”Remember, the strength of a person lies in how many secrets he possesses!” James’ lips curled into a slight arc, and he laughed out loud, ”In Gazalin, I am the one with the most secrets!”

”This box is not a signal transmitter but a signal receiver. As long as it’s over fifteen minutes and the Miracle Army can’t connect to the signal feedback from this box, they will rush to the location where the signal disappeared at the fastest speed. Whatever they encounter along the way, they will kill without hesitation! By now, they should be on their way. Or...” James took the silver box from Bonnie’s hand, smiled, opened it, and turned off the switch inside, ”This way, it’s more secure.”

Fully focused on listening to James, a relieved smile spread across Philip’s face, yet his fingernails had deeply sunk into his palm.

At this moment, from the direction of the inmate quarters, there suddenly came the dense sound of gunfire and artillery. A transport ship bearing the royal insignia slowly landed on the open ground in front of the inmate quarters.

”Are you saying that ninety percent of the guards in the inmate quarters have been shot dead?” Tian Xingjian standing by the window, incredulously turned back to ask.

Elliot nodded by the side and said, ”We have carefully collected intelligence about the prison; there are over five thousand six hundred prisoners, and the number of guards and wardens is about one-eighth of the number of inmates, which means there should be more than seven hundred people. I just counted, a total of six hundred and eighty wardens and guards have been killed here. The recently dispatched Army and Mythical Army are all positioned around the fighting arena; the inmate quarters aren’t their controlled area.”

Fatty fell silent, ever since the guards charged into the inmate quarters, he noticed the numbers were far more than expected! Observing for such a long time, there was no movement outside the inmate quarters, the attack from the Freedom Front that was supposed to launch from the north hadn’t been implemented as planned, while the southeast direction was ablaze with action!

If what Elliot said is true, then the current situation can only have one explanation! That is, there has been a change in the Gazalin Empire! The Freedom Front delayed or even canceled the operation for some reason! Now, the only ones that can be relied upon are themselves! As long as they take control of those four empty-looking surveillance towers and the control room above, control the air defense and information systems, establish contact with the Freedom Front, or let the transport ships in, everything can be under their control!

Tian Xingjian scratched his head while looking at the desolate surroundings of the inmate quarters and the four surveillance towers seemingly occupied by Ghosts and finally couldn’t hold back anymore. Anyway, the action has already started; if they can’t escape this time, he absolutely has no hope of survival! Rather than this, it’s better to risk it all!

Of course, the one risking it all is definitely not himself.

Fatty suddenly jumped at the window, ran downstairs with a look of joy, waved his hand all the way, shouted excitedly, ”We did it, we did it! Hurry up and take action, quick, quick!” He grabbed Sidney’s son, Leonardo, and commanded, ”You immediately take your group to take over the two surveillance towers to the east and north.” Then turned to the group from the Military Department and said, ”You guys, hurry up and take over the surveillance towers to the west and south!”

After saying this, Fatty turned and clapped his hands, shouting to the Freedom Fighters spread around, ”Assemble! Everyone assemble!”

Sidney puzzledly approached Fatty and said, ”Mr. Tian, you mean...”

Fatty, enraptured, waved his hand and laughed, ”Our people have successfully occupied all around; now they are blocking the Imperial Army’s offensives from the fighting arena over there, we must support them! As soon as the transport ship lands, we will have succeeded.”

While talking, Fatty activated the remote control in his hand, a huge blast was heard, a bomb assembled with compressed energy blocks and automatic patrol probes inside a prison cell exploded! The entire inmate quarter shook like a mountain; after the thick smoke cleared, a huge hole had been blown in the prison cell wall.

Fatty turned and saw Leonardo and others still hesitating without moving, with a genuinely urgent expression, he shouted, ”Move quickly! What are you waiting for? If you miss this chance, you can’t escape and you still want to survive?!”

Leonardo and others seemed to awaken from a dream, hurriedly agreed, grabbed their guns and charged out.

Fatty joyfully watched the cannon fodder heroically rush forward, whispered to Elliot beside him, ”Bring two people, follow them behind, I estimate”

Sidney, being seasoned, always felt something wasn’t right, mouthed to call out to Leonardo to wait, but was immediately embraced by Fatty, who covered his mouth. Fatty viciously whispered in his ear, ”To seek freedom, can it be done without a little sacrificial spirit? If you dare to shout, I’ll sacrifice you first!”
