Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Ten kilometers away, He Jie, who was frantically shooting zombies, suddenly stopped.

He tore off the ammo belt from his neck and turned around, looking suspiciously in the direction of the base behind him.

The soldiers beside him saw that something was off and quickly asked loudly, ”Officer, what’s wrong?”

He Jie shook his head, suspecting he had misheard.

How could there be a roar of a mutant beast from the base? He had clearly cleared all threats within a five-kilometer radius.

The two hundred soldiers under his command were forming a crossfire web, sweeping through a large number of Corpse Puppas on the plaza. The sound of gunfire and the zombies’ howls mixed together. He must have misheard.

He lifted his light machine gun and fired again.

The metallic flashes and the torn limbs and blood were the scenes he loved the most.

Then, the faint roars sounded again.

He Jie shivered violently.

Something’s not right!

He immediately shouted, ”Cease fire!”

The soldiers around him hesitated for a moment. The zombies were almost upon them now. Why call for a ceasefire at this moment?

Seeing that no one was executing the order immediately, He Jie’s temper flared, and he roared angrily, ”Cease fire, all of you!”

His furious voice dominated the scene.

Instantly, the two hundred guns fell silent.

Only the chilling cries of zombies remained, as a Night Demon clung to the wall and charged upward.

”Boom!”

A metal shield, broad as a door, flew by.

Severing its leg, embedding deeply into the cement wall, the Night Demon staggered as it landed. A sturdy figure followed closely behind, like a rabid silverback gorilla, stomping on the shield. With a low growl, the cement shattered, and the shield crashed to the ground.

And it crushed the Night Demon on the ground into a pulp before it had a chance to escape.

Blood splattered from beneath the shield, like juice squeezed from a medium-rare steak.

Liang Kuan picked up the shield, leaped twice, and landed on top of the armored personnel carrier at He Jie’s feet.

”What’s wrong?”

He Jie pointed towards the base and asked, ”Old Liang, can you hear any roars from over there?”

Liang Kuan focused and listened for a moment, then shook his head. ”My senses aren’t as evolved as yours. I can’t hear anything.”

He Jie glanced at the zombies about to be completely wiped out, his nostrils flaring as he fiercely commanded, ”Retreat!”

Upon hearing the order, the soldiers did not hesitate and rushed towards the vehicles.

The sound of doors slamming shut was incessant.

Engines roared, tires screeched against the ground, and the off-road vehicles shot out like arrows released from a bowstring.

But the zombies, taking advantage of the ceasefire, surged forward, surrounding the convoy from all directions.

”I’ll leave it to you, Old Liang!”

Liang Kuan turned with his shield and said, ”Alright, I’ll cover the rear!”

...

In urban road conditions, how long does it take to cover ten kilometers?

He Jie had the answer: four minutes and twenty seconds.

The accelerator was above 120 the entire time; letting it drop even a bit was disloyalty to the train captain!

When He Jie’s convoy returned, they saw the five-meter-tall giant bear clawing at the top of the wall, trying to haul itself inside. Its massive behind was wobbling, and it roared maniacally, eager to devour those humans who had pained it.

Yu Yue was directing the combat group soldiers to set up a multi-layered defense behind the wall.

”Boom——”

The wall’s thinner area couldn’t hold up the bear’s weight, breaking through a gap, and stones tumbled down.

The giant bear, shedding its earlier clumsy posture, now glared menacingly. One claw gripped the breach, while the other swiped rapidly at the soldiers shooting at it from the side.

”Quite cunning!”

Su Huan raised his eyebrows. The thread-like flow in his hand had already transformed into an extended, serrated spear. Infused with one-tenth of his energy, the electric spear appeared atop the giant bear’s head in an instant.

The sky and earth flashed briefly in hindsight.

A sound like thunderclaps ensued.

Lightning flickered frantically across the bear’s fur; the stench of burning filled the battlefield.

The claw extended toward the soldiers froze in mid-air.

A moment later, the giant bear let out a heartbreaking wail, earth-shattering, even drowning the thunder.

The eight-plus-meter giant bear fell straight backward to the ground.

The gunfire in the field paused.

That god-like power left everyone in shock and awe, making it hard to put their feelings into words as they watched the unremarkable train captain on the city wall.

In just one strike, it killed such a powerful mutant beast?

Is this truly the train captain?

Looking at the fallen giant bear, Su Huan was also briefly surprised, but quickly came around.

This simpleton was only pretending to be dead!

Though he didn’t know much about bear habits, he did understand Tier Two mutant beasts.

Unless he compressed all his energy into the electric spear, there was only a slight chance of directly electrocuting the giant bear into unconsciousness.

Even if his current energy level exceeded Tier Two, it was useless.

To decisively kill a physically dominant mutant beast, the total energy had to reach at least Tier Three levels.

Watching the returning convoy from afar, Su Huan smirked, leaned over the edge of the city wall, and shouted to He Jie below, ”Captain He is back from the wild. Help me drag this bear back, would you?”

”Bang!”

He Jie slammed the car door shut, swallowed as he looked at the bear, as large as a small hill.

Even though the opponent was dead, the savage and ferocious aura still made his heart race, giving him a strong sense of crisis.

He looked up at the train captain.

But the captain’s expression had already calmed, now showing an air of indifference.

Behind him, brakes screeched one after another, Liang Kuan, too, jumped down from his vehicle, carrying his shield, with a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes as he looked at the giant beast before them.

Yet He Jie trusted his instincts. He muttered in a low voice, ”I feel this thing isn’t dead yet. Stay alert!”

The soldiers, treating the situation as if facing a formidable foe, clutched their guns as they cautiously surrounded the giant bear on the ground.
