Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Until they were pecked down by those claw-filled mutant birds.

So Xiaozhao and the team are now researching how to load drones with small firearms to specifically deal with airborne mutant birds or to suppress ground units with firepower.

This is an excellent idea and is the most important project besides improving the database and train terminal.

Director Xu is currently preparing as the Genetic Primordial, coordinating with Professor Ma and his team on preliminary data collection for train modifications and material testing.

The new materials since the apocalypse have caused a huge impact on the existing scientific system, but also brought many achievements.

Su Huan called up the drone’s interface, moving it slightly forward.

The lens happened to capture an armored personnel carrier cutting through the rain and speeding along the asphalt road.

A bright red fire truck and several heavy trucks followed behind.

Surrounding them were some small off-road vehicles escorting the flanks.

Now the armed train convoy has established its own mode of movement.

The armored personnel carrier leads the way, with the fire truck following to deal with emergencies like traffic accidents or collapsed buildings, while trucks, as transport vehicles, only carry goods, not people.

The other off-road vehicles were temporarily gathered; as long as there is a ”Power Supplier” in the convoy, vehicles can be easily started without keys.

Once the mission is complete, they’re abandoned on the spot.

However, this time they can be used for station construction.

Just as Su Huan was inwardly praising He Jie for not getting carried away this time, he suddenly noticed a giant Iron-Eating Tree being dragged between the two rear heavy trucks.

Its branches and leaves were lush, trailing rainwater and debris on the road like a broom.

Its size was even twice as tall as the adjacent truck.

”This guy... it’s suitable to be a hunter.”

Su Huan gritted his teeth.

...

”This Iron-Eating Tree launched a fierce attack on our forces, and was then shot dead by us!”

”Conductor, you know me, I’m a straightforward person and can’t stand bloodshed.”

He Jie said in a firm voice that cut through the rain curtain.

Even someone with the steady personality of Liang Kuan couldn’t help but clear his throat.

The armed soldiers around all kept straight faces, afraid to laugh out loud and risk being remembered by He Jie.

He Jie is now the instructor of their combat team.

Solely responsible for daily training.

If you mess up under Captain Lao Er, you might get criticized a bit, but falling into the hands of the old dog He Jie, it’s nine blows per second, and no teammates dare help you share.

Su Huan glanced at the Iron-Eating Tree cut in half at the waist, chuckled softly, and jumped down from its trunk.

Acid rain fell on his head and slipped down an invisible barrier to both sides.

Anyhow, no one died this time, and the transport mission was successfully completed, so it’s okay to spin a yarn.

The Conductor is quite accommodating.

”How much of the building materials we need are left in the warehouse?”

Su Huan asked.

He Jie, knowing the incident had blown over, breathed a sigh of relief.

”In two transports, we probably took only about a tenth of the total; the materials we can use occupy about two levels of the entire warehouse. I figure one more transport should about do it.”

He Jie flicked his finger, and a thick cigar was already in his mouth.

”The bullet workshop is lacking materials, isn’t it? This time I prioritized bringing back the brass.”

Su Huan kicked at the branches at his feet, ”Chop these branches down first, send the good ones to the train, plant the rest around the station, tie a red ribbon, mark them properly.”

”Hey, got it.” He Jie replied with a chuckle, then turned to Licking Rabbit with a stern face, ”Did you hear what the Conductor said?”

Licking Rabbit instinctively wanted to salute but hesitated, then lightly tapped his left shoulder with a clenched fist, ”Yes!”

Looking at He Jie, who mixed about like a rowdy soldier, Su Huan mused, ”Today, I plan to proceed with the final internal construction of the station, and incidentally, select passengers for training. Which task do you intend to take on?”

”Training?” He Jie’s eyes lit up.

Su Huan casually swung a branch cut from the Iron-Eating Tree, this one a tender green, about three meters long, with the front meter and a half being stiff and the tip sharp, akin to an oversized horsewhip.

When swung, the rain seemed to split like fabric being cut, with excellent heft.

Offhandedly, he explained, ”The crew group can basically cover the train’s operational needs. We don’t have many positions for ordinary passengers, so I’m planning to divert some. Those with combat potential will be selected to form the Armed Corps, and the rest will be integrated into the station, leaving fewer people on the train.”

This didn’t surprise He Jie, as the train itself already didn’t have enough space, and it made little sense to fill twenty carriages with ordinary people.

The standout talents in this period had already been gradually sorted and absorbed into the crew group.

The rest, placed in the station, could bolster its population and give these survivors work and a chance for survival.

After all, this is about establishing a new settlement, with more opportunities aboard than on the train.

Puffing a ring of smoke that pierced the surrounding rain, He Jie nodded, ”Then I’ll surely choose training, but with so many soldiers, how do you intend to command them? Will they all be under the combat group?”

Su Huan raised an eyebrow, calmly stating, ”I haven’t figured it out yet, but they definitely can’t all be under the combat group; the combat group consists of elite warriors defending the train internally. Do you think they should be classified with the later combat squads?”

He Jie frowned, ”A few hundred people, they’d eat up the combat squad to the point where it couldn’t move, and you wouldn’t be able to count on any combat strength then.”

”Then what?” Su Huan spread his hands.

He Jie glared, ”Wait, you’re asking me, and you’re the Conductor?”

Su Huan narrowed his eyes, ”Aren’t you willing to help ease the Conductor’s burden?”
