Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Three precise shots landed directly in front of their feet.

Sparks flew off the steel floor.

Wan Hao stumbled back a step, only to see a nimble young man pull himself up with a rope in two steps.

Xiaoma let out an excited low growl, ”Brother Xiao, we caught a big fish!”

A worker following behind Old Yuan and another person stepped forward, his muscles bulging under his blue uniform, and threw a fierce punch at Xiaoma, but Xiaoma dodged it. However, he still underestimated the worker’s strength and was directly knocked into the wall beside him.

The second grappling hook flew up.

Lu Xiao, holding an assault rifle in one hand, climbed with the other.

In a few swift moves, he charged up, swinging his assault rifle forward.

Two crisp clashes rang through the air.

Two white marks appeared on the rifle’s body.

Another worker, using the same tactics, rushed at Lu Xiao, but Lu Xiao wasn’t as inexperienced as Xiaoma in combat. He tossed the assault rifle behind him with a backhand move and took down the worker at close range, rescuing Xiaoma in the process.

Old Yuan and Wan Hao used the opportunity to continue running forward.

Just then, the corridor bridge in front of them was suddenly twisted into a spiral by some immense force.

Accompanied by the creaking of metal, the unfinished car bodies and the metal on the surrounding walls fused into a slope.

A boy in a wheelchair slowly rolled up the slope.

With rolled-up sleeves and bangs just brushing his eyebrows.

With a hint of seriousness in his eyes, he said, ”I won’t hurt you, don’t run forward. There’s a sniper outside who doesn’t know the situation inside. You’ll die if you go out.”

(Xiaoba)

Old Yuan and Wan Hao exchanged a glance, their eyes showing a trace of fear.

The threat posed by the boy with a youthful face was even more intense than that of the burly man behind them!

”Bang!”

Liang Kuan stomped down on a semi-finished vehicle dangling on the production line, and with a tiger leap, sprang onto the high platform. With a single hand, he pulled, and with a teeth-grating sound, a shield was torn from the wall.

A faint heat wave spread from his bulging muscles, his voice steady, ”Do you still want to fight?”

Old Yuan turned his gaze to Wan Hao, who gave a bitter smile and shook his head.

Their firepower was inferior, their military quality was lacking, even their level of evolution couldn’t compare.

The opponent could fearlessly charge into a den of hundreds and wreak havoc.

Fight?

For what reason?

The hundreds of workers below had already been subdued by soldiers, with the leader sneering at them with two heavy machine guns in hand.

He knew all too well what those things could do to a human body.

Without hesitation, he said.

”We surrender.”

...

He Jie hadn’t even had time to count the battlefield before receiving a report from a vigilant soldier that the fight had attracted a swarm of zombies.

He could only leave the rest to Chief Conductor Hu and Lu Xiao’s squad.

Hu wasn’t a combat personnel, but an auxiliary member for recruitment tasks and battlefield merit statistics for this mission.

He himself led a group of soldiers, along with Xiaoba and others, back outside the building to hold off the zombies.

Hu expertly shook the roster and shouted, ”We are an armed train, we need some skilled workers, now let a leader come out and connect with me.”

The crowd hesitated for a moment, subconsciously looking up at Wan Hao and Old Yuan who were trapped above.

Wan Hao stared in a daze at the man below wearing a dark blue linen shirt, tentatively asking, ”Translator Hu?”

Upon hearing the voice, Hu looked up in surprise, not expecting to actually see an acquaintance.

As a translator, he often attended high-end events, having a wide network.

But he’s just a high-level employee, unable to compare to the real capitalist sharks, or even this business tycoon in front of him.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been unknowingly swept into the apocalypse.

However, this man in front of him, if remembered correctly, focused on maritime business; venturing inland was already unusual.

Why on earth was he at a nondescript automotive manufacturing plant?

Though curious, Hu had little time and had to press down his questions to handle the task at hand.

With an acquaintance, the next steps would be easier.

Wan Hao and Old Yuan came clean, revealing that the entire automotive plant had over 3,000 workers. Post-apocalypse, some went home, and half of them had a falling out and left to fend for themselves.

Altogether, over 800 workers remained, with 2,100 people total including families, mostly residing in the residential area behind the factory.

The 800-plus workers were also dispersed across different workshops to avoid drawing zombies and monsters by gathering.

Additionally, they had three submachine guns and six tactical pistols, scavenged from a nearby law enforcement bureau.

Including the two of them, there were a total of 210 Evolvers.

According to Su Huan’s order, all these 2,000-plus people were to be taken away in one go.

Normally, a large bus could carry around fifty people, under special circumstances, maybe around eighty.

But for over 2,000 people, they’d need roughly twenty-seven buses.

The factory only had ten buses, leaving a gap of seventeen. Fortunately, this was an automotive manufacturing plant—cars were plentiful if nothing else.

They collected dozens of smaller vehicles and, along with a dozen freight trucks, managed to assemble a large convoy.

The workers, puzzled, began the relocation.

Old Yuan, Wan Hao, and Hu stood a bit further away.

Finally, Hu had the time to ask his question, ”Chairman Wan, why are you here?”

Wan Hao sighed, tugging at Old Yuan beside him, ”I won’t say much—this is my college mate, a friendship spanning decades. This factory is his, and now the two of us count as your captives. In light of our past ties, can you give me a clue? I’ll accept whatever’s decided, live or die.”
