Chapter 500: Chapter 214, Time for Healing_2

No one knew how the injured and immobilized Laine finished his dinner. It was only when the moon reached its zenith that the cold atmosphere in the room was broken by Mogiana’s voice. The Lake God Witch sat at the head of the bed, and since there was no one else in the room, her voice rare carried some emotion and warmth: ”It’s not that I’m making things difficult for your maid. The truth is, your maid, Miss Amelia, is of unknown origin, weak in faith, and quite mysterious. She was actually able to infiltrate the Holy Grail Cathedral using her own strength. I’ve rearranged the guards just now.”

”She... won’t harm me, and that’s enough. Who doesn’t have some secrets? I have a few guesses about her identity... but this matter isn’t urgent right now. She is neither a Chaos Creature nor an Undead; she’s just a poor girl who has suffered misfortune and hardship, homeless.” Laine tried to persuade Mogiana. The Lake God Witch was a Divine Chosen Great Mage of Holy Sanctuary strength. Offending her could cause Amelia significant trouble in the future. In this country, even the King’s power is not as great as that of the Lake God Witch.

”Let’s gloss over this matter, I have something to tell you.” Mogiana had just gone out for a moment, and when she returned, she had changed into new clothes. Under her long gray nightgown adorned with countless Golden Iris patterns, a pair of crystal-clear white silk jade feet was exposed. Her slender and rounded ankles were small and cute, and the small feet wrapped in white stockings gently swayed before Laine’s eyes.

These white stockings were made from unicorn fur, a luxury item one cannot buy even with a thousand gold pieces in the Empire.

”Speak.” Laine actually felt a bit like resting, but he knew that if Mogiana came to talk to him at this time, it must be something important.

”The Merciful Goddess Church’s Archbishop is missing.” Mogiana handed over a piece of parchment and let Laine look for a while: ”We found traces of fighting and spellcasting in the Merciful Goddess Church’s headquarters. Obviously, the Archbishop was attacked by some powerful entity and then captured.”

”This is... cough cough, this is very strange. I remember that the appearance of the Nurgle Demon Army was due to the Merciful Goddess Church discovering the lost formula for the plague cure?” Laine was very puzzled, attempting to understand more information.

”Yes, the reason the Nurgle Demon Army appeared was because the Merciful Goddess Church discovered the cure for the plague, so the Archbishop, accompanied by many Priests and Temple Guards, went to the sanatorium for experimentation, ultimately attracting the attention of the Nurgle Demon Army.” Mogiana nodded, her face full of confusion: ”But the development of events is quite bizarre. You defeated the Great Nurgle Demon and banished the Nurgle Demon Army, but at that moment, the Archbishop mysteriously disappeared, and there were also serious problems with the plague cure formula.”

”What kind of problems?” Laine asked curiously.

”When the Archbishop returned to the Merciful Goddess Church headquarters in Kulona, she took the parchment recording the formula into a secret chamber and didn’t come out for a whole day. The guards of the church opened the chamber at the risk of their lives, but both the Archbishop and the parchment were gone, leaving only signs of a struggle and the aura of Undead Magic.” Mogiana picked up a dossier, continuing: ”We searched the entire city for a whole day, even using my spells to search, but found nothing. The search continues, but I think...”

”The Merciful Goddess Archbishop may have met a grim fate.” Laine’s voice sank.

”The Merciful Goddess Archbishop is not a Priest skilled in combat.” Mogiana nodded, her delicate eyebrows knit tightly: ”But she is very good at defense. Even with only Legendary Middle-tier strength, I couldn’t take her by surprise and capture her in one move, indicating that the attacker’s strength was beyond imagination.”

”...What about the formula for the cure? Was it preserved?” Laine’s breath was growing weak; he was tired.

”Several Priests and physicians claim they memorized the formula, but after writing it down, none of the versions are completely the same.” Mogiana pulled out another piece of parchment, smiling with some exasperation: ”If not for the appearance of the Nurgle Demon Army, I would almost suspect the followers of the Lady of Mercy orchestrated a large-scale scam.”

”There must be a connection behind this... just my lord, I think I need rest.” Laine wished to think through the causes and effects of these events, but his body was reminding him it was time to rest.

”Hmm, rest, Lady’s Champion, you are tired. Heal well!” Mogiana gently brushed Laine’s face with her hand, and some magical whisper made Laine close his eyes. He quickly fell asleep.

After confirming that Laine was asleep, Mogiana unhappily rubbed her golden eyebrows. Much had happened in the past two days, and the Lake God Witch had not actually recovered from the fatigue of the great battle.

Setting multiple spell seals and restraints, Mogiana took out a pillow and put it on the other side of the four-poster bed, laid down the Golden Crown and Golden Waistband, covered herself with the blanket, and the room returned to silence.

........

In the following days, Laine remained in bed for recuperation, and his little maid Amelia was allowed to take care of him. This made Amelia very happy, and the girl looked after Laine with meticulous care, while Mogiana went to the Lion Ring Giant Racecourse to preside over this year’s knight tournament.

”Ah! Laine, open your mouth!” Amelia, dressed in a white ladies’ blouse and red plaid skirt, was feeding Laine a spoonful.
