Warhammer Divine Throne

The Holy Sword belonging to the Prince-Elector—Leg-Slicing Bite—is hanging at his waist.

Clearly, the person before us is the newly appointed Wolrich Prince-Elector, the lord of White Wolf City, Boris Todbringer.

”I didn’t expect it would be Your Excellency Boris coming here,” Laine remarked.

”What, not welcoming?” Boris’s face was full of resilience and straightforwardness.

”Yes, not welcoming. Who knows whether you and your knights will cause any trouble during the knights tournament. I’d rather you and your band of White Wolf Knights stayed in White Wolf City, and the Cheetah Knights all stayed in the Leopard Palace without coming out!” Laine said helplessly. Boris’s visit brought a whole regiment of White Wolf Knights and dozens of Cheetah Knights, along with several hundred followers. Judging by the scale of the diplomatic envoy, it was indeed too grand and elite.

Are these people truly here on a diplomatic mission, and not to make a show of power?

”Ah, there’s some situation, which isn’t suitable to discuss here. Maybe we can find a place to talk about it in a couple of days.” Boris’s voice was full of resignation: ”I envy you, becoming the Divine Chosen Champion. You’re now free of these entanglements. By the way, your father Norman is advanced in age, and Wagner the Grand Master thinks he should retire.”

”I think so too... See you later, Your Excellency Prince-Elector.”

”See you later, Your Excellency Baron.” With that, Boris Todbringer led the Imperial envoy into the city, the Imperial knights exuding a splendid aura that drew many of Brittania’s nobles and citizens out to watch, resulting in bursts of exclamations.

When Laine returned to his group, he found Amelia hiding fearfully behind Surya, revealing only a small head. It wasn’t until the Imperial envoy entered the city that the girl stepped out from behind the lady knight.

”Are you very familiar with this Boris Prince-Elector?” Francois was intrigued, thinking that Laine indeed had advantages in this regard, as he had connections with many forces in the Empire, truly swimming effortlessly.

”Not very familiar; we’ve fought side by side once, and we’ve seldom had the chance to meet. But Boris is indeed a respectable person.” Laine said with some sorrow and admiration: ”Boris is truly a resilient person. To speak of it, it’s a long story.”

”Then we can leave this intriguing story for tonight, for now, let’s settle down.” Francois motioned for the knights to enter the city first.

As one of the few Grand Dukes of this Kingdom, Duke of Winford had his own townhouse in Kulona. The townhouse wasn’t very large, but nearby was the Kulona Branch of the Holy Grail Knight Order, and slightly further away was the Holy Grail Cathedral.

Only the Duke’s family and people like Laine were eligible to stay here; others had to lodge at inns.

Francois’s legitimate son, Julius, had already arrived here early. This Kingdom Knight had recently traveled outside for a long time, seldom returning to Helunhilde, and like his father, he was also very interested in the knights tournament.

After enjoying a sumptuous dinner, Francois and Laine, and the others sat around the warm fireplace. The Duke’s family changed into casual clothes, with only Laine still dressed formally, leaning on the soft sofa, seemingly still organizing his thoughts.

Francois stroked his goatee, Surya and Julius leaned against their father sitting, while Amelia shyly sat beside Laine.

They were discussing the grand and subtle attitude of this Imperial envoy.

”The Empire sending so many people over this time is indeed a bit strange. But it indirectly shows one thing, which is that without the Holy Grail Knight Order, perhaps Brittania’s national power is no longer sufficient to compete with the Empire.” Francois’s eyes gleamed as he conveyed his thoughts to his children and Laine: ”Not long ago, you personally participated in the Kolesen Plain battle at Marinburg, and you should have more insights into this. That is, the alliance between Brittania and the Empire is beginning to shift under the leadership of the new Emperor Carl Franz Friedrich to become a coalition dominated by the Empire.”

”Indeed so.” Laine nodded, also having felt it.

”I’ve met the former Emperor of the Empire, Luitpold Franz Friedrich. He’s a benevolent and farsighted monarch, tending to use conciliation and indirect methods in his policies. Because of this, under the reign of Richard, who is also skilled at reconciling conflicts and coordinating relationships, the relations between the two countries were equal and intimate.”

Francois continued: ”But everything changed when Carl Franz took over as Emperor. The new Emperor is tough and filled with dominance, never ceasing to wage war from south to north since his accession, winning continuously. In such circumstances, Richard, with his weak character, more adept at using political means to draw in and control nations, naturally fell behind. The Kingdom was already in decline after the Dor Tower incident, and the Empire, under His Majesty Ludwig’s reforms, transformed into the world’s most powerful human nation. The new Empire has cast aside the corrupt political system and parasitic old nobles of the Old Empire, and the new military-nobility, which isn’t adept at both military command on horseback and civil administration off it?”
