Chapter 1423: The News That Shocked The Kingdom

”You... You...” Lucas gritted his teeth and shouted back, ”Do you understand what you’re doing right now, Wendy? Do you remember that you are the third princess of this kingdom?

”Duke Lorelei! Aren’t you a person with integrity? You are a neutral person who won’t switch sides no matter what. How can you assist my sister?”

Duke Lorelei shook his head. ”I still am. However, my integrity lies in my desire to see the future of this kingdom. But look at us now... Your Highness, Lucas... You have seen everything about this kingdom.

”His Majesty has ruled the kingdom for a short while, but where is this kingdom heading?

”There is nothing but a ruined kingdom if this continues. Surely, as the prince, you won’t say you don’t understand any of this, right?

”The central government has been betraying its people and the vassals who have pledged their loyalty.

”The east has become so lawless that the people over there are suffering every day. The north has been united, but it has always been seen as a thorn.

”And last but not least, the west, who have remained neutral until now, has become another eyesore to the royal family.

”In just a few short years, the kingdom has become so divided like no one has ever seen before.”

Lucas gritted his teeth. He definitely couldn’t deny it. The kingdom was heading down the path of ruin. If this continued, it wouldn’t be weird if the kingdom disappeared or changed its owner.

Lucas slapped his chest and hurriedly said, ”That’s why I’m going to change it! I can change this kingdom to be stronger. As long as you help me, I can definitely set this kingdom on the right path.

”The only thing that stops me from doing anything is the marshal. As long as you help me, I can definitely change this kingdom!”

Duke Lorelei shook his head. ”What have you done until now? Trust is not something that should be given so easily. Trust is something you need to earn.”

”Are you telling me you can trust Wendy more than you can trust me?”

”Yes.” Duke Lorelei nodded without hesitation.

”Why?” Lucas clenched his hands into fists. ”She is nothing but a puppet princess! She is just a doll. There’s no way you can put your trust in someone like her.”

Duke Lorelei shook his head helplessly.

”How ignorant you are, Brother! He can trust me because I have shown I can be trusted. How about you? Have you done anything worthy, Brother?

”If you don’t even know that I have been preparing all this the whole time, do you even know anything at all?

”What? His Majesty sending you here is nothing but to make you a scapegoat. He wants you to die so that he can launch an assault on the western lords in the name of rebellion. Once he takes care of the western lords, he will absorb them and use that strength to go against the northern lords.

”In other words, you are sent here to die.”

”What?!” Lucas was utterly shocked. There was no way he would be sent here to die. How could that be? He was the second prince.

In that instant, he realized why he was sent here. If he died, the ones who benefited the most were both the king and the crown prince. This meant no one would pose any more trouble to the succession of the crown prince. Meanwhile, the king also had a justification to absorb the western lords.

Once this was over, the royal family would have the strength to take down the northern lords and absorb them to a certain extent. This was the true motive of the king.

”You don’t know about it? Of course, you don’t know about it. When His Majesty sent you here, what was going through your mind?

”If you came to this place, would you be able to convince the western lords to follow you to fight against the crown prince?

”If that was indeed true, what had you prepared? Do you know anything about the western lords? Have you prepared something that will allow you to gain their loyalty?

”You must be thinking that you can use me to get some information. And if necessary, you would use me as a bargaining chip, right?”

The second prince was tongue-tied. Everything she said was correct.

”Then what about you? I won’t die like this! I won’t die! Even if I die here, you won’t be able to escape, Wendy! You won’t be able to become the next sovereign.

”You are just a woman. Our father likes our eldest brother too much. That’s why there’s no point in killing me here. Instead, how about this? You can help me. Once I become the next king, you will definitely benefit a lot.”

Wendy simply stared at him coldly, as though all that promise never entered his mind. She walked closer and closer as though it was time to end the conversation and kill him.

”No. Wait a moment. You win! I will become your subordinate and pledge my loyalty to you. I can make you the next sovereign! I’m much more useful if I’m alive.” Lucas desperately persuaded her, but her expression remained unchanged.

”If you want to help me, there is indeed a way.”

Lucas’ face lit up, thinking he could survive this time.

However, Wendy suddenly took out a dagger from behind her and stabbed him in the chest.

”Wha—!” Lucas spat out a mouthful of blood and looked down, seeing the dagger that pierced through his heart. He was in utter shock.

Wendy looked at him coldly and said, ”I remember how harsh you have treated me all this time, Brother. I could let it go this whole time, but I can’t forgive people who are trying to destroy this kingdom.

”That’s why... If you want to help me, there is a way to do it. You have to become my ticket to go back to that cold palace.” And the only way to become the ticket was to die.

”You...” Lucas was staring at her in disbelief.

Duke Lorelei closed his eyes helplessly as he waved his hand, using his spiritual energy to push him and the carriage to the bottom of the cliff.

And this was the time the kingdom heard news that would shake the entire kingdom.

The second prince, Lucas Ve Lenfenth, died.
