System vs Rebirth

Chapter 1416: Noel’s Trick

”Thunder God’s Possession, first stage, Heaven Wrath.”

The lightning sparked all over her body. This was Anna’s trump card without the use of True Spirit Body.

Although she rarely used it, the strength was not far from that of a True Spirit Body. If she used this technique while she was in her True Spirit Body, her strength would skyrocket.

No, she might be equal to him who had two True Spirit Body.

That was why, whenever they fought each other, there was no clear winner. After all, Anna had the help from the original Anna, who was willing to follow her in exchange for a new body in the future.

Unfortunately for Anna, this was not a fair fight in the first place.

Anna shifted his stance down as though she wanted to utilize her speed to close the gap between them in an instant.

The moment she leaped, Noel slashed down, unleashing a strong sword strike.

Anna would avoid this normally, taking advantage of her speed to dodge most of Noel’s attack. But today, she planned to crush Noel so that he couldn’t be so smug anymore.

She gathered all her energy into her sword and struck the sword strike from Noel with all her might.

In her mind, she would slash through this ability and reach Noel in an instant, taking him by surprise. It might not be enough to defeat him, but she would gain the upper hand this time.

With that thought in mind, she rushed forward while hitting the sword strike.

However, reality didn’t go according to what was on her mind. Instead of getting cut, the energy from the sword strike suddenly erupted as though it refused getting cut down.

”!!!” Anna widened her eyes in shock. ’What is this energy? It shouldn’t be this strong? How can it be so robust that I can’t even cut it down? Noel doesn’t seem to be using the transcendent path for that attack... this is weird...’

Anna couldn’t comprehend what was actually going on.

Now that she had failed slashing this attack, she was stuck.

”Hehehe...” Noel suddenly appeared next to her.

”Not good!” Anna used her other hand to reach for him, but Noel simply stood there and grasped her hand and held it as firmly as possible.

Her hand was filled with lightning, but for some reason, it couldn’t pierce through the layer of spiritual energy protecting Noel’s hand.

”I got you now.” Noel smiled. ”I win, right?”

”...” Anna gritted her teeth.

”You must be thinking that you can slash my strike and reach me in one go instead of going around after being confident with your new strength. However, you won’t expect that you actually can’t cut that strike.” Noel smiled.

Anna couldn’t help but notice something. She asked, ”How can your energy be that powerful?”

Noel shook his head helplessly. ”Unfortunately, I can’t explain it to you.”

”...” Anna furrowed her eyebrows. It was normal for Noel to share his insight with her, but the fact he couldn’t say it wasn’t because she shouldn’t know it, but because he had to remain silent for some reasons.

And what was that reason? It wasn’t that hard for her to find that reason. In the end, this robust energy made Noel stronger. And for Noel to get stronger meant he would become closer and closer to the spirit king stage.

In other words, the reason for this growth might be related to the king stage. Of course, Anna had also experienced the black box that Noel’s ancestor left behind.

That was why she realized whatever the reason, it would be related to why Ardagan didn’t give any clues to Noel about the king stage. And Noel couldn’t afford to give that clue to Anna as well.

Once she understood that reason, there was no need to act up. It was clearly Noel’s way of protecting her. At the same time, this sparring match was none other than his way to guide her to this king stage.

In the end, it looked like Noel had got the clue from the fight as well, since he guided her this way. If not, Ardagan would probably stop him.

To prove her theory, Anna couldn’t help but ask, ”Have you become a spirit king?”

Noel shook his head. ”Not yet. I still have a long way to go.”

”I see...” Anna nodded in understanding. She was indeed correct. In other words, she just had to stay silent and observe it. Maybe she would be able to come up with a different answer.

Ardagan remained silent the whole time. This was something he had never seen before. In the past, Margaretha stayed at spirit transcendence rank the whole time, so Alexander never taught her about it. At the same time, Margaretha was too busy with all the office work, so Alexander never really had the chance to walk side by side.

However, Noel was different. Noel managed to maintain a healthy balance between office work and his training. In the end, his strength was assisted by his system, and the territory had a working government based on those pillars.

Noel was different from Alex, allowing Anna to reach this stage as well. That was why Ardagan thought that these two might be able to become a spirit king together.

Of course, Ardagan didn’t expect that the pillars that Noel’s father formed during his reign would actually help Noel to have more time for his training. Without those pillars, Noel would have a slower progress than Anna even with the help of the system.

If the two ended up working together for the office work, they might not progress fast enough to stop the incoming demon king.

That was why Ardagan chose to silently support them.

Still, Noel had won. He couldn’t help but tease Anna with a smug grin. ”But you don’t forget you have lost, right?”

”...” Anna’s eyebrows twitched. She really wanted to slap him for tricking her, but both of them were scheming against each other, and she just happened to lose. So, she pouted, ”A win is a win. However, just one sparring match is not enough. You have to accompany me during the whole day. I will accept the penalty during the night...”

”Hehehe. Sure.”
