Chapter 1414: Unexpected Return

Still, what Noel didn’t expect was that, three days after Anna returned, Layla actually came back from the trip.

Even Noel didn’t expect for Layla to come back before he even attacked the third prince.

That was why he couldn’t help but wonder if this would impact his plan.

”Saintess? You have returned? Are you alone?” Noel looked around, not finding his mother, Dimitri, or Milfa.

Layla nodded. ”Yes. I have returned, Marquis. I’d like to thank you for your help. Only because of your help can I somehow reach this level.”

Layla had indeed become a spirit transcendence. Anna couldn’t help but examine her further, wondering if she could find out about what happened in the demon territory by examining the wound.

However, Layla waved her hand and said, ”You don’t have to worry. The reason I return this time is actually because of your esteemed mother.”

”My mother? Did something happen to my mother?” Noel panicked, thinking he had harmed his mother.

Layla smiled wryly, feeling overwhelmed by his intensity. She hurriedly explained, ”No. Please don’t misunderstand. I’m probably going to say something weird, but please listen to me to the end without interrupting.”

”I understand...” Noel let out a long sigh.

”Actually, your esteemed mother was the one in charge of the group. She led us around to kill some demons.

”However, she actually told us that she should be the first to become a spirit transcendence, followed by me.

”I didn’t really mind, and the other two didn’t seem to mind either. However, when we reached this level, she told me to leave the group together with her.

”I protested at first because I didn’t want to endanger the other two by leaving, but she said something weird... something like this is actually how we should reward the other two.

”While the journey was dangerous, she told me to get rid of any ancient demons at least within 20 km from that area before leaving.

”Once we were done, we would return. This way, the two of them could complete the journey without that high of a risk. Then again, there didn’t seem to be any ancient demons in that area.

”And those two should have no problem in reaching this level without needing a single ancient demon crystal, so the journey shouldn’t be that dangerous. It would just take a bit longer since they had to be careful.”

Noel was dumbfounded. At first, he wanted to get angry and scold his mother, but he soon understood why his mother returned. It wasn’t for them to get back and do their duty.

She just wanted to create a space for Dimitri and Milfa.

Noel facepalmed, seeing the absurdity of this plan. At the same time, he couldn’t really say anything.

Knowing Dimitri, he probably wouldn’t do anything. At the same time, Milfa should have a feeling for Dimitri. Isolating them like this would deepen their relationship.

For Dimitri, who always thought about work, hunting the demons would allow him to have a lot of time to not think about work.

Although he doubted something would happen between them, their relationship would probably become much better by the time they came back. No, they might even become a couple the next time he meets them again.

And it was all thanks to his nosy mother.

Even Noel didn’t expect that his mother would act as a matchmaker for them.

Noel could only sigh after knowing what had happened. ”I understand. Thank you for telling me everything, Layla. I’m sure you’re tired from your journey, so you should return to the temple first. At least Aurelia wouldn’t have to worry about you anymore.

”Stay for a couple of days here before returning to your headquarters. If you want to ask anything about being a spirit transcendence, you can ask me during that time.”

”Yes.” Layla politely lowered her head. ”Once again, I’d like to formally thank the marquis for granting me this opportunity. Thanks to you, the Moon Temple now has a spirit transcendence. This way, our missionary work will proceed much more smoothly.”

Noel nodded.

”In that case, please excuse me.”

Noel saw Layla off as she headed to the temple, while Anna couldn’t help but whisper in a playful tone. ”Something is going to happen between those two, right? Yes, definitely something is going to happen! Are they going to return with one more person?”

”...” Noel smiled wryly. ”What are you? My mother? You are exactly the same.”

Anna grinned. ”I mean, aren’t you the same as Dimitri? And now, you can’t leave me alone. Do you forget how passionate you were in the last couple of days? How much do you miss me?”

Noel’s eyebrows twitched. ”You need to clear your mind.”

”Heh.” Anna only had a smug smile. ”Well, if I’m going to clear my mind, you have to help me.”

”What are you talking about?”

”Sparring, of course. With my current strength, I might be stronger than you now.”

Noel snorted. ”Do you think you can just defeat me with that little strength?”

”I can. Haven’t I defeated you in the last couple of days?” Anna winked.

”...” Noel almost lost his composure. ”Fine. Let’s fight then. I will show you that even with your current strength, it’s impossible for you to defeat me.”

”Heh. We will see...”

...

While Noel and Anna headed somewhere else for their sparring, Layla had reached the Moon Temple.

”Saintess. Congratulations!” Aurelia looked happy because the person she admired the most had reached a stage that only a glimmer of people could reach.

”Hahaha. It’s thanks to Marquis Ardagan. Without his method, I won’t be able to reach this stage.”

”Is the technique that impressive?” Aurelia widened her eyes in surprise.

”Yeah. It’s that effective. However, no one in Moon Temple can use it. Although I can’t say all the details, it’s basically using your True Spirit Body to stimulate that stage.

”In our Moon Temple, who has a True Spirit Body other than me?”

Aurelia could only look down.

”But I reached this level because of that fake sensation, so this is a level that is built with a fake foundation. You won’t be able to get even stronger than this for the rest of your life.

”Of course, this stage is like a dream to everyone else, so they will probably be satisfied even if they can’t advance. Either way, treat it as if I’m talking to myself. We don’t want to provoke the Ardagan family.”

Aurelia nodded. ”I will pretend I don’t hear it, Saintess.”
