Chapter 1407: Panic

”Congratulations, Demon Banner Army!”

”You finally did it.”

”Congratulations!”

The moment the Demon Banner Army returned, they were greeted by a parade. The news of the Demon Banner Army pushing back the Supreme Devil Organization and destroying their headquarters had been spread to the kingdom.

The people couldn’t help but cheer. Even if it wasn’t exterminating them, this was the biggest achievement the Demon Banner Army had made against the organization.

That was why people were cheering for them.

The entire fort was brimming with energy, looking at the heroes who just returned from their mission.

Oscar raised his hand as if telling them the Demon Banner Army was strong. Shale and Clara smiled while waving their hands to greet the people, while Drente remained stern.

Other knights experienced it in their own way. Some tried to make themselves look cooler, while some remained calm because they knew it was just destroying their headquarters, not exterminating them.

Still, a celebration is a celebration. The festive mood spread all over the fort. People were hoping that Oscar could finally get rid of the Supreme Devil Organization, not realizing that this organization was built by the royal family.

When the celebration came to an end, Oscar, who had returned to his office, suddenly received a visitor.

The visitor was a middle-aged noble. He took out a scroll with the royal seal on it while stating, ”Commander Oscar Vorthes, receive the royal decree!”

”...” Oscar stood up first and walked past his table. He was prepared for this royal decree. The royal family would definitely be in a panic because they were worried Oscar had evidence of them dealing with the organization.

It was something they had to stop from spreading at all costs. Hence, they had to keep the Demon Banner Army right away. Because of the relationship between the royal family and Noel, there was no way they were willing to bring Noel back to the capital again.

In addition, the agreement had clearly stated that the Demon Banner Army would be the one receiving everything inside, so they first targeted Oscar.

Oscar then fell to one knee and lowered his head.

The noble opened the decree and stated out loud, ”Commander Oscar Vorthes has done a great job of dealing with the Supreme Devil Organization. To reward you for your hard work, you are summoned to the royal palace, as the king shall reward you personally.”

”...” Oscar closed his eyes for a moment. It was clear what the royal family was trying to do. They wanted him to leave this place so that they could find all the documents they had gotten from the headquarters and somehow erase them.

If Milfa were here, the documents would definitely be safe. After all, such a thing wouldn’t escape Milfa’s eyes. There was no way she would allow them to erase the evidence. In fact, she probably had created several layers of protection already.

However, without her around, the defense of the Demon Banner Army was low. This was the best chance for them to find the documents.

Unfortunately, Oscar couldn’t do anything. If he didn’t receive this royal decree, he would be in trouble.

Although they had destroyed the headquarters, the strength of the organization still remained. He might even face the Tower Association and the ten Arbiters. The Demon Banner Army might be big, but they were not strong enough to fight against them.

Even Noel was avoiding a direct confrontation with the Arbiters.

Oscar opened his mouth. ”I accept. Oscar Vorthes would like to thank His Majesty for the honor. I shall depart tomorrow morning.”

The noble nodded with a serious expression. Normally, people would head to the capital city right away, but the noble was also waiting for his reinforcement to arrive before they could do anything. Hence, it was fine if Oscar waited for two or three days before leaving.

The noble didn’t expect that the situation would reach this point. The people from the royal family were scratching their heads the previous day.

...

The previous day.

”Big news. Big news!” A soldier rushed into the hall and hurriedly fell to his knees.

”Ei. Why are you acting like that? Do you know we’re discussing an important matter right now?”

”Big news.” The soldier didn’t say anything. Instead, he just stated what was actually going on. ”The Demon Banner Army and Marquis Ardagan have pushed back the Supreme Devil Organization and crushed their headquarters! They are now returning to their respective city.”

”!!!” People dropped their jaws as though they couldn’t believe what they had just heard.

Although these two were strong, the Supreme Devil Organization was supposed to give them a hard time. No, if they had a head-on clash, there was no telling who would win.

Yet, for some reason, the Supreme Devil Organization was defeated by them.

”What’s going on? Have they managed to exterminate the organization?!” Duke Raymond acted as if he was righteous, but actually, he was panicking inside.

If it was an all-out war, it would be a disaster because that meant there would be a record of their agreements seized by these people.

At the same time, all of them had heard about their cooperation before Noel and Oscar departed, including their deal.

So, they wanted to know what had just happened.

”No. According to the report, the Supreme Devil Organization had fled from their base before their arrival.”

”...” The people’s expression turned grim.

Before they said anything, Duke Raymond waved his hand, saying, ”We’ve received the report. Return to your position!”

”Yes, sir!” The soldier just returned.

”This is bad!”

”This is really bad.”

”What are we going to do now?”

”What did they get from their headquarters?”

”We need to find out what they got.”

”We have to prepare for another attack against the Marquis...”

”No. We can ignore the marquis for now since there’s already a written contract between them that he would be giving everything to the Demon Banner Army.”

”We should focus on the Demon Banner Army first. Marquis Ardagan should know that revealing that information might spell doom for this kingdom, while Commander Oscar might not know anything.”

The people were panicking, not knowing what to do.
