Not Being a Trainer This Time

Chapter 266: Chapter 191: Grateful Hearts

After lunch, Naoki began arranging specific duties for the two Indeedee.

As the sister Indeedee had mentioned, the brother Indeedee excelled at housekeeping, managing the owner’s daily life, and organizing the household, so Naoki entrusted the management of the entire house to him.

The sister Indeedee, on the other hand, was skilled at cooking and taking care of Pokemon, so Naoki assigned her to look after the many Pokemon on the ranch.

Of course, this didn’t mean that everything would be left to the Indeedee; he would also cooperate and work together with them.

The work of the sister Indeedee was divided into the following two tasks:

1. Feed the Pokemon on the ranch when he is not there.

2. Utilize her magical ability to sense emotions to take care of every Pokemon on the ranch, promptly understanding their needs and troubles, and conveying these to him.

When Naoki explained these tasks to the two Indeedee, they exchanged a glance and promptly nodded.

It sounded quite relaxing!

Moreover, these tasks were inherently their responsibilities.

Seeing their expressions, Naoki suddenly remembered the unique trait of the Indeedee species.

Unlike Cyclizar who need to obtain energy through meat.

The source of energy for Indeedee is various positive emotions, happiness, gratitude, joy...

They use their horns to receive these emotions, converting them into their own energy.

Precisely because of this characteristic, whether domestic or wild Indeedee, they diligently care for humans and Pokemon, seeking joyous and grateful emotions.

Speaking of care, Naoki suddenly recalled something.

He looked at the two Indeedee and said, ”Oh, I haven’t introduced you to the Pokemon Tavern yet.”

”Indeed?”

The first time she heard this term, the sister Indeedee had a confused expression on her face.

The brother Indeedee beside her was also somewhat puzzled, looking at Naoki and waiting silently for an answer.

”As the name suggests, it’s a place for drinking and gatherings.” With that, Naoki turned around: ”Come, let me show you!”

The group crossed the lawn and came to the old house that had been transformed into a tavern.

Naoki pushed open the door and stepped aside so the two Indeedee could clearly see the interior arrangement.

”This is the tavern, though it’s not open for business at the moment.” Seeing their bewildered expressions, Naoki thought for a moment and asked, ”You know what a café is, right?”

The brother Indeedee nodded: ”Indeed.”

Naoki: ”A tavern is similar to a café, both are places for relaxation and gatherings.”

With his explanation, the two Pokemon immediately understood.

”However, my tavern is not quite the same as ordinary taverns.” Naoki’s tone was mysteriously secretive.

The siblings were unsurprisingly intrigued and turned their heads to look.

Naoki did not keep them in suspense: ”My tavern does not serve humans, only Pokemon guests.”

”Indeed?!” Hearing this, the two Indeedee widened their eyes in disbelief.

Serving only Pokemon... guests?

”That’s right.” Naoki explained the current situation of the tavern in detail.

After listening, the sister Indeedee’s eyes became increasingly bright.

She liked this place!

So when the tavern opened at seven o’clock in the evening.

After dinner, the two Machamp who swaggered over for a drink at the tavern saw the owner behind the bar welcoming guests had changed from Naoki to a never-before-seen Pokemon.

The sister Indeedee cheerfully greeted the two guests: ”Indeed~”

”Huh...?”

The Machamp were puzzled and couldn’t help but ask where Naoki had gone.

The sister Indeedee: ”Indeed!” (Naoki is doing housework with his brother! I’ll be hosting you today!)

Upon hearing this, the two Machamp were relieved; they were initially worried Naoki had run away and the place was closing down.

Seeing Naoki was fine, they ordered two Berry Juices as usual and sat down to chat.

Before long, Quaquaval and Growlithe also arrived.

Seeing the change of the boss, they were as surprised as the Machamp.

Indeedee patiently explained to them and prepared two drinks according to their needs.

During this time, the sister Indeedee noticed that Growlithe seemed to dislike the sweet and sour flavor of Berry Juice. She thought for a moment and then served a Berry Juice made from Cheri Berry.

This Berry has a spicy taste, which is very popular with Fire Type Pokemon.

Just as expected, Growlithe was pleasantly surprised to find that he preferred Cheri Berry Juice over regular Berry Juice!

”Woof woof!”

The Growlithe, finally having found something to its taste, excitedly expressed its gratitude to the Indeedee.

”Ah-yee~” The sister Indeedee had a gentle smile on her face.

Meanwhile, in the room.

Naoki noticed the brother Indeedee’s absent-minded look and said, ”If you’re worried, just go and check on her! I’ll handle the rest of the laundry.”

”Ah-yee...” The brother Indeedee was a bit hesitant.

Before coming here, they were taught by their parents to always work seriously for their master, without being careless, so he always strictly demanded that of himself.

But this was the first time he had been apart from his sister...

The brother Indeedee thought of his playful little sister and couldn’t help but worry.

After all, she’s just a three-month-old little Pokemon. Naoki waved his hand with a smile:

”Relax, don’t be so tense, if you want to go, just go. You can also see if the tavern needs any help.”

The brother Indeedee nodded his head gratefully, then turned and went downstairs. He jogged under the night sky to the brightly lit tavern.

His sister was safely standing behind the bar counter. Though she seemed to be in work mode, her attention was completely caught up by the chatting Pokemon.

The brother Indeedee breathed a sigh of relief, then calmly walked in.

”Ah-yee?” Seeing her brother arrive, the sister Indeedee was slightly stunned but then broke into a bright smile.

”Ah-yee!” she said, Brother, I like it here!

The brother Indeedee had never seen his sister so radiant.

He was taken aback for a moment, then stepped forward to help his sister with her tasks.

Late at night, after all the Pokemon guests had left, the brother Indeedee cleaned up the dishes and washed them with clear water.

The sister Indeedee, meanwhile, was briskly sweeping the tavern floor with a broom.

Tonight, the smile rarely left her face.

It seemed she had discovered the meaning of her existence.

”Ah-yee~” (Brother, this place is wonderful, those Pokemon are grateful to us~)

The brother Indeedee replied without turning his head: ”Ah-yee.” (Naoki is a good person.)

The sister nodded, adding, ”Ah-yee!” (The best human in the world!)

Just then, a beam of light shone from the door.

Naoki, who had been waiting for the two Pokemon, appeared at the door with a flashlight.

”It’s time to go back to sleep now!” Naoki said somewhat helplessly, as it was nearly midnight, way past normal closing time.

The sister Indeedee looked a bit embarrassed: ”Ah-yee...”

She had been chatting happily with the Machamp and Quaquaval and had lost track of time.

The two Pokemon quickly finished cleaning up the tavern, carefully closed the door, and followed Naoki back to their dwelling.

Naoki pointed to the fridge: ”There’s food and water in the fridge, if you’re hungry or thirsty you can help yourselves, no need to ask me, just treat this place like home.”

”Ah-yee~” The sister Indeedee nodded happily.

”Well then, good night.” Naoki watched them return to their room and then turned back to his bedroom to rest.

With the bedroom lights off, the whole ranch fell into silence.

Only the soft whispers of the two Indeedees could be heard.

The sister Indeedee cuddled up in her little bed, thinking about everything that had happened that day, too excited to sleep.

The brother Indeedee lay flat on the other bed, his sleeping posture serious and rigid. He lay there with his eyes closed, seemingly asleep.

But the sister Indeedee knew her brother was not asleep.

In a charming tone, she said: ”Ah-yee~” (Brother, I’m so happy today~)

The brother Indeedee responded: ”Ah-yee.” (Time to sleep.)

The sister Indeedee was curious: ”Ah-yee?” (Aren’t you happy?)

The brother opened his eyes and answered earnestly: ”...Ah-yee.” (I am happy.)

Only then was the sister Indeedee satisfied, as she cuddled the Substitute dinosaur plush Naoki had prepared for them, and softly murmured:

”Ah-yee!” (I wish I could live here forever!)

Hearing this, the brother Indeedee again thought of the Meowth in the manor who had been abandoned by the Trainer for being too weak.

He stared at the dark ceiling.

Naoki... surely wouldn’t abandon them, would he?
