“Why is that person here?” Lu Ye asked with a frown. His mind had been preoccupied by the abstruse third move of the Tyrant Blade Technique in the past few days, so he was somewhat muddle-headed now.

Yu Huang was torn between tears and laughter. “Sir, don’t you remember we asked for some resources the other day? The person from the Ministry of Military Supplies has come to pass us the resources.”

Only then did Lu Ye understand what was going on. “In that case, you can just take the resources from him. There isn’t a need to inform me about it.”

Yu Huang said, “Sir, he has come to our territory. As the Pass Leader, you’re supposed to go over and greet him.” It would’ve been fine if the other party didn’t mention Lu Ye. The problem was that Fu Yao had asked to see Lu Ye. It would be inappropriate if Lu Ye never showed up. After all, the other party was there to pass them the resources.

Lu Ye was puzzled. “Why would I need to greet him?” He was in charge of the Pass to protect the front line of Bing Zhou. On the other hand, those from the Ministry of Military Supplies were responsible for sending resources to different Passes and ensuring that the logistics were run smoothly. They had their respective jobs to do, so Lu Ye didn’t understand why he had to greet the person from the Ministry of Military Supplies.

Yu Huang replied with a helpless expression, “Sir, we’d… better not offend those from the Ministry of Military Supplies.”

Lu Ye couldn’t help but recall his experience when he went to the Ministry of Military Supplies with Qian Wudang’s token to get some resources. He had been to the Ministry of Military Supplies in Grand Sky City twice. Although no one made things difficult for him, they were not friendly to him either. They looked like they would lose some flesh by giving him the resources. Lu Ye realised what was going on and frowned. “What’s wrong with them? Do we need to get some beautiful female cultivators to keep the person company?”

Yu Huang explained meekly, “There’s no need for that. Those from the Ministry of Military Supplies don’t do things for their vested interests. They’re merely obeying their leader’s orders. As far as I’m concerned, these are the rules set by their Commander, Sir Chao Ye.”

Lu Ye furrowed his brows. “Fine. I’ll see him now.”

Yu Huang hurriedly led the way for him while giving him a heads-up. “There’s one more thing you need to know, Sir.”

“What is it?”

“We’ve requested too many types of resources in large amounts this time, so I don’t think they will give us everything. The resources he has brought are probably a small part of what we’ve asked for, but that’s sufficient for our Pass. Those from the Ministry of Military Supplies are not targeting us. The Zhou Watch is a big organisation, and those from the Ministry of Military Supplies are responsible for managing the resources. It has been tough for them as well. It’s their duty to be stingy. If they’re too generous, all the resources would be depleted, and they couldn’t explain themselves to everyone.”

“You’re speaking on their behalf now, aren’t you?” A laugh escaped Lu Ye.

Yu Huang sighed. “Although I’m not part of the Ministry of Military Supplies, I understand why they do things in such a way. They’ve been icy because they’re worried some people might get too close to the Ministry of Military Supplies and get resources unfairly. Although they’re bad-mannered in a way, they’re only performing their duties faithfully.”

“Alright,” Lu Ye replied lightly. They soon arrived at the Guest Hall and saw two people who were seated.

Upon registering Lu Ye’s presence, they rose to their feet. Lu Ye cupped his fists at the Fifth-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master. “Greetings, Cultivator Liu.”

Lu Ye didn’t know his name, but he had heard from Yu Huang that the person was surnamed Liu, and he was responsible for escorting the manager from the Ministry of Military Supplies.

Although he wasn’t responsible for sending the resources, he was a Divine Ocean Realm Master, after all. As such, it was fine for Lu Ye to greet him first.

Cultivator Liu sized up Lu Ye and put on a gentle smile. “I’ve heard a lot about you, Cultivator Lu. I’ve finally gotten to see one of the Two Geniuses of Bing Zhou. You indeed live up to your name.”

Lu Ye was startled. “Two Geniuses of Bing Zhou?” [I don’t even know I have this appellation. Since it’s the Two Geniuses of Bing Zhou, then the other person…]

Cultivator Liu guffawed. “I suppose you’re not aware of it yet, Cultivator Lu. Several days ago, you and Li Taibai from Thousand Demon Ridge collaborated to kill the great insectoids. Senior Brother Wan has told everyone about it. He said that he was engrossed in the battle that day, feeling that he was old while the new generation of cultivators had risen to prominence. You and Li Taibai are the Two Geniuses of Bing Zhou. It’s Senior Brother Wan’s acknowledgement of what the two of you have achieved.”

Lu Ye felt speechless, thinking that Elder Wan was such a big mouth. After giving it some thought, he reckoned that the appellation Two Geniuses of Bing Zhou was better than the Annihilator of Sects or the Three Banes of Spirit Creek.

He then replied humbly, “Elder Wan has spoken too highly of me. I was merely lucky during the battle that day, so I don’t deserve his compliment.”

Cultivator Liu said with a smile, “Don’t be overly humble, Cultivator Lu. Senior Brother Wan and I are on good terms. I had asked him about that battle, and I felt that if I were in the same situation, I wouldn’t have been of much help. This shows that even though you’re weaker than me, I might not be a match for you if we were in a life-and-death battle. Senior Brother Wan is good at identifying talents. Since he has said the two of you are the Two Geniuses of Bing Zhou, he surely isn’t mistaken. That’s why he has recommended that you take charge of the Pass. I’ve asked to come here to have a look at you, the rising Star of Bing Zhou. I’m glad my wish has come true. To be honest, I’m not comparable to you. When I was your age, I was only a Real Lake Realm Master. That’s embarrassing for me.”

Since the other party had been so polite, Lu Ye could only continue to reply humbly, “Many cultivators are working hard to increase their powers. No one can tell for sure how far one can reach on his cultivation journey. Although I’ve made some swift progress at the beginning of my cultivation journey, it’s possible that you’ll sail forward quickly in the later stage of your cultivation journey. I won’t be able to keep up with you by then.”

Cultivator Liu guffawed. “Thanks for the kind words, Cultivator Lu.”

Then, Lu Ye turned to look at the Real Lake Realm Master. “I suppose you’re Manager Fu.”

Fu Yao quickly saluted him. “Greetings, Pass Leader Lu. I’m a manager of the Ministry of Military Supplies, Fu Yao.” As he spoke, he untied a lot of Storage Bags from his waist and took out five. Following that, he held out two jade slips. “One of them is the list of items you’ve requested which we’ve approved. The other is the list of resources Commander Chao has asked me to bring to you. Please go through the items and confirm that you’ve received them.”

Lu Ye nodded and took the two jade slips. He went through the list of resources they had requested first and nodded slightly a moment later. Then, he looked into the other jade slip. Just as he had expected, there were a lot of Fire Spirit Stones and materials for making ward nexuses.

Yu Huang was anxious while standing beside him. He was worried Lu Ye would blow his top because they couldn’t get all the resources they had requested. His concern wasn’t unfounded. Lu Ye was young and proud, so he might be reckless sometimes. If he was furious because some resources were not given to them, they would offend those from the Ministry of Military Supplies.

When that happened, it would be harder for them to ask for any resources in the future.

Fortunately, Lu Ye didn’t show any signs of getting mad. After going through the lists, he dipped his head. “Nothing is wrong. How do I confirm I’ve accepted the items?”

Fu Yao replied with a smile, “You just have to leave behind a bit of your aura in the two jade slips, Pass Leader Lu.”

Lu Ye did as he was told and passed the two jade slips back to him.

Fu Yao took them and said, “Alright, then. I have to go back to the Ministry of Military Supplies and report on the completion of the task. Before I came here, Commander Chao had said that if you need any resources in the future, you can just tell us about it. We’ll prioritise your requests wherever possible. We won’t dismiss your requests.”

Lu Ye remained emotionless upon hearing that, but Yu Huang’s eyes widened in disbelief.

If not for the fact that he knew who Fu Yao was, he would’ve suspected whether the other party was indeed from the Ministry of Military Supplies.

Those from the Ministry of Military Supplies were known for being stingy, but they were so generous to Lu Ye now.

Even when Liu Yuemei was in charge of Surging Waves Lake Pass back then, she couldn’t establish some connections with the Ministry of Military Supplies. Whenever Fu Yao came to pass them the resources, Liu Yuemei would be present to take the items. However, Fu Yao had always remained dispassionate. Although he never pulled a long face, he never accepted any favour from Liu Yuemei either. As soon as he was done passing the items to them, he would leave the place.

As such, Yu Huang was puzzled as to what was going on now.

Fu Yao had kept a smile on his face the entire time, and he even said such a thing now.

Yu Huang had never heard that Chao Ye had anything to do with the Crimson Blood Sect. Moreover, someone like Chao Ye would never be in favour of any person or Sect.

“Please help thank Commander Chao on my behalf, then.” Lu Ye was bewildered as well. After he heard what Yu Huang had said, he thought those from the Ministry of Military Supplies would only give him a small part of the items he had requested, so he was well-prepared. Now, that didn’t seem to be the case.

“Since this matter is over, I’ll take my leave now,” Fu Yao said.

“You two must be tired from all the travelling. Why don’t you get some rest before leaving? I’ll ask someone to prepare a meal for you.”

Fu Yao said, “Thanks for your kindness, Pass Leader Lu. However, I’m swamped with work.” He patted the Storage Bags which hung from his waist. “Other than Surging Waves Lake Pass, I still have to go to seven to eight Passes. The deployment of resources is an important matter, so I have to be diligent.”

Naturally, Lu Ye wouldn’t force him to stay. He extended his hand and said, “I’ll see you off, then.”

After the two of them were gone, Lu Ye returned to the Guest Hall and saw Yu Huang looking excitedly at him while holding some Storage Bags. “Sir, what’s your relationship with Commander Chao?”

“Chao Ye?” Lu Ye shook his head. “I’ve only heard about him, but I’ve never seen him.”

“Why has he approved all the resources we’ve requested, then?” Yu Huang held up the Storage Bags, feeling that they were heavy.

He was the one who came up with the list, so he was aware of the types and amounts of the resources they had asked for. It could be said that the demand was outrageous, so he didn’t expect those from the Ministry of Military Supplies would approve it. He even felt that the other party would send someone over to reprimand them.

But it turned out that all the items had been granted to them.

Moreover, Fu Yao had been friendly to Lu Ye. He even said that Chao Ye had ordered that Lu Ye could come up with any request at any time, and they would prioritise his needs.

Yu Huang had been in this Pass for years, but he had never seen those from the Ministry of Military Supplies being so easygoing.

It was as if Chao Ye was treating Lu Ye like his Son.

If not for the fact that Lu Ye was a man, Yu Huang would’ve suspected that he and Chao Ye were in a secret relationship.
