Lin Yue put on a smile as well because when it came to results, Li Taibai had killed two great insectoids, whereas Lu Ye had only killed one. It could be said that Thousand Demon Ridge had gained the upper hand. Only two great insectoids were left.

Just as Lu Ye and his Soul Clone were ready to destroy the remaining two great insectoids, they finally realised they were in danger. Initially, the eight of them had come to hunt their enemies down, but only the two of them were left in the end. They had no idea how things ended up this way.

Given how unintelligent they were, they couldn’t figure out the reason. At this point, they could only act instinctively. Upon realising they were in a perilous situation, they ran away in two different directions.

Lu Ye and his Soul Clone respectively ran after each of them. At the same time, Elder Wan and Lin Yue also charged forward in different directions.

They couldn’t interfere in the battle earlier because the two young men had collaborated seamlessly. Now that the two of them had separated, and it was obvious that the great insectoids were fleeing, they naturally had to do something about it.

Lu Ye and Elder Wan came together while the Soul Clone joined forces with Lin Yue. The fluctuations of Spiritual Powers were soon felt coming from their respective battles.

A moment later, Lu Ye’s battle ended first. After all, Elder Wan was slightly stronger than Lin Yue, so he had an advantage in a battle like this.

Following that, the Soul Clone also destroyed the last great insectoid. Only then was the epic battle considered over.

Lu Ye put his saber back into the sheath while the Soul Clone retracted his Sword Lights into the Sword Gourd. They turned around and glanced at each other with a distance of several hundred metres between them.

Considering the situation, Lu Ye reckoned that he had to say something. It would’ve been fine if no one else were around. The problem was that Elder Wan and Lin Yue were present. It would be weird if Lu Ye said nothing.

After some hesitation, he said slowly, “You are great.”

The Soul Clone put on a smile and replied, “You are great too!”

Lu Ye felt his eyelids twitching. It was even more awkward that he complimented himself in front of everyone else.

However, Elder Wan and Lin Yue felt it was two rising Stars appreciating one another.

This was only normal. Lu Ye and Li Taibai, both brilliant young cultivators, were extremely lucky to be equally powerful in the same generation. A cultivator’s journey was long and arduous. A competition between two people was better than being on one’s own.

Lu Ye cupped his fists. “I’m Lu Yi Ye of the Crimson Blood Sect. Thanks for the help, Fellow Cultivator.”

The Soul Clone saluted him back. “I’m Li Taibai, an independent cultivator. There’s no need to thank me. As cultivators, we have to destroy all the insectoids.”

“If there’s a chance in the future, I’d like to have a drink with you.”

“Sure, sure.”

Lu Ye said whatever came to mind, but he had no idea how to keep the conversation going.

Fortunately, Elder Wan ran his fingers through his beard and laughed. “It’s great to be young.”

Lin Yue shared the same sentiment, so she said in agreement, “You are right.”

“Since this matter is over, we should take our leave.” Upon finishing his words, Elder Wan turned around and flew towards Surging Waves Lake Pass. Lu Ye followed him closely.

On the other hand, Lin Yue beckoned to the Soul Clone and headed to Dark Moon Forest Pass.

Women were inherently curious. Even a Seventh-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master like Lin Yue was no exception. While on their way back, she asked, “Junior Brother, did you already know Lu Yi Ye before this?”

The Soul Clone quickly replied, “It was our first time meeting each other.”

“The two of you collaborated perfectly. I thought you were good friends with him.”

“I suppose we have a lot in common.”

What he had said was sensible, so Lin Yue wouldn’t doubt him. She didn’t think Li Taibai would lie to her. Moreover, one was from Thousand Demon Ridge, whereas the other was from the Grand Sky Coalition. It was unlikely that they were close friends.

“You two have similar figures and cultivations. When standing together, you two look like Brothers.” Lin Yue smiled faintly. It was apparent that she was in a good mood.

The Soul Clone thought they weren’t Brothers; they were practically the same person.

Lin Yue went on to say, “Anyway, you’re more handsome than Lu Yi Ye.”

Meanwhile, Elder Wan wasn’t so talkative. He only asked Lu Ye about what had happened. Lu Ye could easily deal with the situation by telling him the information he could share.

By the time they returned to Surging Waves Lake Pass, the battle had almost come to an end. Many soldiers left the Pass and formed different formations with the help of United as One Ward Nexuses. They quickly destroyed the remaining insectoids.

Lu Ye and Elder Wan had no intention of interfering in this matter. They only wandered around the battlefield to prevent any insectoids from fleeing. This allowed the soldiers to fight the enemies to their hearts’ content.

Around half a day later, all the insectoids were destroyed. Only then did the soldiers start cleaning up the battlefield and picking up the corpses of their companions.

Lu Ye approached Elder Wan and said, “Elder Wan, since this matter is over, I’ll take my leave.”

He had only left Grand Sky City this time for two reasons, but something went wrong and he was dragged into the insectoid attack. Now that the dust had settled, he didn’t need to stay.

Elder Wan was sending messages to someone, so he raised his hand to motion for Lu Ye to stop talking. Lu Ye patiently waited beside him.

A moment later, Elder Wan ended the conversation and glanced at Lu Ye. “Since there’s no leader in Surging Waves Lake Pass now, you have to be in charge of this place for now.”

Lu Ye was shocked. “Elder Wan, since you’re around, why would I need to be in charge of this Pass?”

Elder Wan explained, “I’m part of the Protection Force, so I’m not attached to any Pass. I’ll go wherever that needs my help. Since there’s a new task, I have to leave at once.”

“Ask another Divine Ocean Realm Master to come over, then. I’m only a Second-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master, so how can I be in charge of a Pass?”

Elder Wan looked at him meaningfully. “Although your cultivation is low, you are not weak. Stop being humble. All the places lack manpower now, so we don’t have anyone else who can take charge of this Pass. As such, you have to be the Pass Leader for now. All the soldiers are pleased to work for you. If another Divine Ocean Realm Master comes over, he may not have the same level of authority. You’re the most suitable person for the time being.”

“But I’m from the Ministry of Laws…” Lu Ye was still trying to get himself out of this situation. It wasn’t an easy task to take charge of a Pass. If he had a choice, he’d rather join the Protection Force so that he could move around freely.

“The Ministry of Laws is also part of the Zhou Watch. I’ve informed them about it, and someone will bring it up to Commander Qian. It’s decided, then. Since I have a task at hand, I have to leave now.”

As soon as Elder Wan finished speaking, he flew into the sky and disappeared into the distance.

Lu Ye watched him leave, feeling speechless. He had no idea how things ended up this way. He was asked to become a Pass Leader against his wishes.

Although the Soul Clone was a Deputy Pass Leader, Lin Yue was above him. He wouldn’t need to take the initiative to do anything if something major happened.

But it was different in Surging Waves Lake Pass. Since no one else was above Lu Ye, he was the most authoritative person in the Pass.

Yu Huang hurriedly approached him and cupped his fists. “Greetings, Pass Leader!”

[How did he find out about it? Well, Elder Wan probably told him about it. He’s quick to call me the Pass Leader.]

“What’s the matter?” Lu Ye asked.

Yu Huang fished out a jade slip. “These are the casualties of this war. Please have a look, Sir.”

Lu Ye took the jade slip and had a brief look. Following the insectoid attack, the casualties at Surging Waves Lake Pass weren’t severe. Around several dozen people died.

In the past, this number of casualties was nothing to a Pass. However, all the places lacked manpower now, so losing several dozen people was a big deal.

Lu Ye had no idea how to handle this matter. As he recalled the Soul Clone’s experiences in Dark Moon Forest Pass, he said, “Take the corpses back to Grand Sky City and publish obituaries. Also, ask the Sects or families behind them to retrieve the corpses.”

“Yes.” Upon receiving the order, Yu Huang turned around and left.

[It’s not so difficult.] Lu Ye thought.

Suddenly, he received a message on his Battlefield Imprint. He took a look and discovered it was Qian Wudang lecturing him.

‘Damn it! Why did you go to Surging Waves Lake Pass instead of staying in Grand Sky City?’

Qian Wudang was furious. The Ministry of Laws finally had a talented person. During the previous great conference, he managed to stave off the Commander of the Ministry of Military Supplies, Chao Ye, who tried to transfer Lu Ye to his Ministry. But now, Lu Ye went to Surging Waves Lake Pass and accidentally became the Pass Leader. It was only natural that Qian Wudang was incensed about Lu Ye having no regard for him.

‘I was just too bored, so I took a stroll and arrived at this place. Since I happened to come across an insectoid attack, I decided to lend them a helping hand,’ Lu Ye quickly replied.

‘Do you know Liu Yuemei is dead?’ Qian Wudang asked.

‘I’ve heard about it. How did she die?’

‘I was about to ask you that question. Did you kill her?’ Qian Wudang couldn’t be blamed for having this suspicion. He was aware that Liu Yuemei had hunted Lu Ye down back then despite being stronger and more authoritative. He and Tang Yi Feng had gone to rescue Lu Ye. Given the feud, Lu Ye had a reason to kill Liu Yuemei.

‘Stop pulling my leg, Sir. I’m only a Second-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master, whereas Liu Yuemei was a Seventh-Order Master. How could I even kill her?’

‘You couldn’t do that on your own. But what if you also had Li Taibai’s help?’

‘You know Li Taibai, Sir?’ Lu Ye felt his chest tightening. He felt that Elder Wan was quick to spread the news. After giving it some thought, he realised some things couldn’t be hidden. From Elder Wan’s perspective, there wasn’t a need for him to hide the news from anyone.

Lu Ye was only a Second-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master. If he wanted to take charge of a Pass, he needed to have some decent accomplishments. The deaths of those great insectoids were his achievements.

‘I’ve just heard about him. Also, I’ve been informed that Li Taibai had killed Liu Yuemei’s Son.’

It had to be said that those Divine Ocean Realm Masters in power could gather information quickly. It was no wonder Qian Wudang had such a suspicion.

Lu Ye and Li Taibai had some grudges against Liu Yuemei. Both of them had the power to destroy stronger enemies. Moreover, they could collaborate perfectly. If they had plotted against the unsuspecting Liu Yuemei, they could probably have killed her.

Also, it was too coincidental that Lu Ye showed up at Surging Waves Lake Pass at this point. It was only natural that Qian Wudang had such speculation.

‘I’ve never done that, Sir. Li Taibai and I didn’t know each other before that. It was our first time meeting one another today. Also, he’s from Thousand Demon Ridge. Why would I work with him to do such a despicable thing?’

He couldn’t admit to anyone that he had killed Liu Yuemei, not even to Qian Wudang.

‘You’d better believe what you’ve said!’ Qian Wudang had no intention of probing him further. ‘Anyway, you need to take charge of Surging Waves Lake Pass for now. After all, you happened to come across this crisis and showcased an incredible power. Perhaps the Zhou Watch will find someone to replace you. It’s also possible that they can’t. There’s one thing you need to remember. You are from the Ministry of Laws, and no one can change that.’
