When Lu Ye was done sending messages to Qian Wudang, he furrowed his brows.

Considering the situation, he had no choice but to take charge of Surging Waves Lake Pass. Just like what Qian Wudang had said, Lu Ye happened to come across this incident and showcased an incredible power.

Elder Wan must have recommended that Lu Ye take charge of the Pass. Otherwise, a Pass like this could never be led by a Second-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master alone. However, the recommendation of an Eighth-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master from the Protection Force carried some weight.

The job wasn’t so unacceptable for Lu Ye. It depended on how he regarded the matter.

Even if he returned to Grand Sky City, he would have to continue making Explosive Fire Spirit Stones and United as One Ward Nexuses. He could just do that here. Moreover, with Qian Wudang so far away from him, he was unrestrained and could have more time for himself.

Considering all that, he reckoned that staying in Surging Waves Lake Pass was better than returning to Grand Sky City.

Certainly, as for how long he would have to be in charge of this place, it depended on how the Zhou Watch mobilised people. If they could find someone to replace him, he would be able to leave this place sooner. If they couldn’t, he would have to keep staying here.

It wasn’t a big deal anyway. The only thing that concerned him was Qian Wudang’s speculation about Liu Yuemei’s death.

Qian Wudang might have only brought it up for no reason. It was also possible that he felt Lu Ye might have killed Liu Yuemei. Either way, Lu Ye was indeed the murderer.

If not for the insectoid attack, Lu Ye could have fled the scene after ending Liu Yuemei’s life, and no one would have suspected that he killed the woman.

Nevertheless, after the insectoid attack broke out, he couldn’t turn a blind eye to what was happening at Surging Waves Lake Pass. He could only do his best to help. The truth was that if he hadn’t arrived at the Pass at the most critical moment, the place would have been occupied by the insectoids. If that had happened, many soldiers would have lost their lives.

Qian Wudang was someone in power, so he had access to information that most people had not. That was why he formed such speculation. However, it was a score that couldn’t be settled as there was no evidence. Also, even if Lu Ye had indeed killed Liu Yuemei, it didn’t matter to Qian Wudang.

Such speculation was dangerous for Lu Ye, though. Since Qian Wudang had formed such speculation, it meant that other people like the managers of the Sky Origin Clan and powerful cultivators close to Liu Yuemei might have the same suspicion. As such, Lu Ye had to keep his guard up.

Anyway, as long as Lu Ye denied it, no one could hold him accountable. It was indeed inconceivable that a Second-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master could kill a Seventh-Order Master. It would only remain speculation.

Unbeknownst to Lu Ye, an old woman had left Heavenly Gate Canyon and was furiously charging towards Surging Waves Lake Pass.

The old woman was none other than Yu Huajin, an Elder of the Sky Origin Clan as well as Liu Yuemei’s Mother-in-law.

Although she was old and frail, she was a Ninth-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master. A few years ago, she wasn’t so feeble yet. However, following a major incident several years ago, she was devastated and became dispirited.

She was severely impacted because her only Grandson was killed.

It could be said that her entire life had been miserable.

Her Husband lost his life not long after they became married. He wasn’t killed. It was just that he failed to make it to the Divine Ocean Realm. His Divine Soul was damaged, and his Spiritual Power turned into chaos, which caused him to explode and die.

She became a widow at a young age. Fortunately, she was already pregnant at that time. After giving birth to her Son, she raised him while going through a lot of hardship. Her Son grew up to be a successful person. Initially, she expected her Son to become a famous figure throughout the entire Jiu Zhou so that their family’s reputation would be boosted. In the end, he was killed in front of many people because he disobeyed Feng Wujiang’s order.

When the news came, Yu Huajin almost went mad. However, she knew she was significantly weaker than Feng Wujiang, and the Crimson Blood Sect was prominent at that time. As such, she could only keep the bitterness and resentment to herself.

Although her Son was dead, she still had a Grandson.

Her Grandson had a good aptitude, so it was worth nurturing him with plenty of resources. To prevent anything from happening to him when he was growing his power, he was sent to Surging Waves Lake Pass, which was under Heavenly Gate Canyon. After all, his Mother was the Pass Leader there, so he would be well cared for.

Unfortunately for Yu Huajin, her Grandson was killed several years ago.

Although the murderer got his retribution quickly, her Grandson would never come back to life. The Tan Family’s bloodline was broken. She and her Daughter-in-law were the only ones supporting the family.

It was for this reason that Yu Huajin was devastated and fell ill. When she recovered, she was still a Ninth-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master, but anyone could tell that her vitality was on the decline. If she got into a fight, she couldn’t fully activate her power as a Ninth-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master.

Such a thing would only happen to Divine Ocean Realm Masters who had lived a long life. Their days were numbered as their age increased, which caused their heritages to be weakened. As such, they could no longer fully activate their powers.

But such a thing shouldn’t have happened to Yu Huajin because she wasn’t old enough for her power to weaken.

Ever since her Grandson died, she had rarely contacted Liu Yuemei. That was because every time they contacted each other, they would recall those heart-breaking experiences.

The day before, she was astonished to learn that Liu Yuemei was dead.

Her Husband, Son, and Grandson were dead, and now, even her Daughter-in-law was no longer around. Much to her dismay, an old woman like her was still alive.

She even felt she was such a jinx that everyone around her would eventually lose their lives because of her.

She had no idea how Liu Yuemei was killed or who the murderer was. As such, she felt powerless to avenge her death.

Still, some news had reached her. Although she knew it was unlikely to be the case, she needed to vent her frustration. That was why she left Heavenly Gate Canyon and headed straight to Surging Waves Lake Pass. She was worried a certain someone would have left if she arrived late.

For a dying old woman like her, evidence wasn’t needed. Even though it was just a suspicion, it was a good enough reason for her to end that person’s life.

She had decided to go to Surging Waves Lake Pass to kill Lu Ye first. Then, she would head to Dark Moon Forest Pass to destroy Li Taibai. Although her power had weakened, she was still a Ninth-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master.

When she saw that someone was blocking her way, she retracted the Conveyance Light with a dark expression.

The moment the person saw Yu Huajin, he sighed. “I knew you’d do this.”

“Why are you here, Senior Brother Zhao?” Yu Huajin asked. She was familiar with this person. He was from the Sky Origin Clan and was now a member of the Elder Council in Grand Sky City. It could be said that he was an important figure.

Moreover, they weren’t just disciples of the same Sect. When they were young, he had developed some feelings for her. After Yu Huajin lost her Husband, he went on to take care of her for many years. However, as they grew older, they naturally parted ways.

Their relationship was illicit, even though many people from the Sky Origin Clan were aware of it.

Zhao Cheng glanced at Yu Huajin with a conflicted gaze, feeling that time had been unkind to the woman. It was disheartening to see that the woman, who used to be the most beautiful woman of the Sky Origin Clan back then, had become so old and frail.

Although he was old as well, he wasn’t as feeble as Yu Huajin.

He understood that the woman had suffered a lot of setbacks over the years, and her life had been miserable.

Realising something, Yu Huajin donned an icy expression. “Are you here to stop me, Senior Brother?”

Zhao Cheng sighed. “Junior Sister, you cannot kill Lu Yi Ye!”

When he received the news, he instantly knew that Yu Huajin would make an irrational move, which was why he waited for her here. Now, it seemed that his concern turned out to be true.

He was probably the only person who understood Yu Huajin the most in this world.

“Why?” Yu Huajin glanced at him in puzzlement. “What does he have anything to do with you? Why are you protecting him?”

Zhao Cheng replied, “Don’t get me wrong, Junior Sister. I have nothing to do with that young man. However, he’s important now, so you can’t kill him.”

“He’s only a new Divine Ocean Realm Master, so how is he important? Why can’t I kill him?”

Zhao Cheng knew that he couldn’t stop the woman if he didn’t provide an explanation, so he could only say honestly, “Have you recently requested some Explosive Fire Spirit Stones and United as One Ward Nexuses for Heavenly Gate Canyon?”

Yu Huajin had no idea why he suddenly brought up this matter, but she still replied patiently, “Yes.”

“Let’s not talk about Explosive Fire Spirit Stones for now. What do you think about United as One Ward Nexuses, Junior Sister?”

“They’re indeed wonderful things. With the ward nexuses in possession, the soldiers’ collective power could be increased by 30 per cent,” Yu Huajin replied, and she soon realised what the man was trying to say. “Senior Brother, are you implying that those two items have something to do with Lu Yi Ye? Does he make them?”

Zhao Cheng felt the woman wasn’t so foolish. He nodded and said, “Yes, he makes those items. It’s a top secret that only those who had attended the great conference are aware of. Deputy Coalition Leader Pang has ordered that this matter be kept a secret, so no one else has heard about it. Now, you should understand that Lu Yi Ye must be protected at all costs in this situation.”

Yu Huajin was in a state of disbelief. Explosive Fire Spirit Stones started appearing several years ago, but the supply gradually stopped. United as One Ward Nexuses had recently been invented, and it was universally acknowledged that they were incredible items.

When Yu Huajin saw the ward nexuses, she wondered which famous artificer had made them. She had asked around but couldn’t find the answer. Much to her surprise, they were made by Lu Ye.

Since Zhao Cheng had said so, she naturally wouldn’t doubt him. At that moment, she fell into a dazed state.

Suddenly, she was engulfed in a sense of iciness. Since she was in shock, she couldn’t react swiftly. Zhao Cheng was unaware of what was going on either. It wasn’t until some Spiritual Power was felt fluctuating that he charged forward in shock.

But the next moment, he stopped in his tracks, looking vigilantly and anxiously at the person behind Yu Huajin.

Yu Huajin stiffened at once. Due to the sharp pain, even her hunched back had straightened. She looked down at the blade that had stuck out from her chest, finding it unacceptable. Even though she was a Ninth-Order Divine Ocean Realm Master, she was still unknowingly ambushed.

When she expanded her Divine Ego and discovered the aura that she was so familiar with and vigilant against, she said through clenched teeth, “Nian Yuexian!”

She had been competing with the woman for many years and had suffered a lot of setbacks. Even though she didn’t see her face, she could still instantly recognise her aura.

At the same time, Zhao Cheng exclaimed, “Please don’t hurt her, Cultivator Nian!”
