His Beloved Treasure

Chapter 1713: Chapter 479: The Beginning and the End (24) (Part 4)

Just like that, she still fell for Jian Yan.

Xiao Wei ate quite a bit that night, and so did Qin Mu. Only Mu Yichen seemed to have a poor appetite, eating even less than the women.

Moreover, he was drinking.

Since Xiao Wei was pregnant and couldn’t drink, Qin Mu said she wouldn’t drink either. But later, seeing Mu Yichen sipping, she became anxious and also wanted to drink.

Mu Yichen glanced at her with his dark eyes, full of deep meaning, and continued sipping slowly.

Qin Mu couldn’t stand it and put down her chopsticks.

”Let me take a sip!”

Qin Mu said as she reached to take his wine glass. Mu Yichen didn’t mind and, once his hand was empty, placed it on the table, watching Qin Mu ”take a sip”.

”That wasn’t just a sip, you drank the whole glass!”

Xiao Wei said.

Mu Yichen thought so too, but he was sparing with his words and remained silent.

After drinking, Qin Mu smiled and instinctively looked at Mu Yichen, but his deep gaze made her heart tremble. She then softly asked him, ”Should I pour you another glass?”

”Alright!”

Mu Yichen agreed.

He wasn’t keen on eating at night, preferring to have a couple of drinks instead.

So, Qin Mu got up again to pour him some wine.

After dinner, it was still snowing outside. Xiao Wei wandered around the living room, occasionally standing by the window to look outside, even hallucinating that Jian Yan was standing there.

But when a car passed by and its headlights illuminated the window, the illusion vanished.

Xiao Wei’s eyes couldn’t help but grow teary. If Jian Yan didn’t come back soon, she was worried she wouldn’t be able to let him be the first to see their son, as her due date was already here.

Deep in her heart, she yearned for Jian Yan to return when she gave birth, hoped he’d be there in front of her, hoped he’d be the first to hold their child.

After dinner, Mu Yichen cleaned up the kitchen and went back to the room to handle emails on his phone. Qin Mu stayed on the sofa with her drawing board, sketching until Xiao Wei sat down, prompting her to look up, unable to avert her gaze.

Xiao Wei’s eyelashes were damp with tears.

”What’s wrong?”

Qin Mu asked softly.

The living room was devoid of other noises, so their conversation, though quiet, was perfectly audible.

”I miss Jian Yan!”

Xiao Wei didn’t hide it.

Qin Mu’s eyes shifted as she set down the drawing board, moved closer to sit beside her, and gently hugged her, squeezing her shoulder.

”I understand; when a woman is pregnant, she especially wants a man by her side. Particularly when about to give birth, she wants the child’s father there, right?”

Qin Mu asked softly.

Xiao Wei gave a bitter smile, lowered her head in acknowledgment, and twisted her hands tightly together.

”I was like that when I was pregnant with Huanhuan too. Even though I was working non-stop at the time, I couldn’t fall asleep during those quiet nights! Xiao Wei, it will pass, and when he comes to love you, you’ll realize that all this waiting was worth it.”

Qin Mu continued.

Xiao Wei looked up at her, seeking comfort from her eyes.

Meanwhile, Mu Yichen, who was about to go downstairs to get something, paused at the stairway corner. Maybe the house was too quiet without the sounds of their children playing and laughing, making every sound all the clearer.

”Even I found my love, Xiao Wei, and you certainly will too. Waiting for someone can be very painful, but once you have it, you’ll cherish this relationship and this man even more.”

”Was it like that for you and Mu Yi?”

”Yes! When I was pregnant, I didn’t know if he loved me. I thought he was just taking care of me because he’d watched me grow up and didn’t want another man to claim me first, so he did. It took me many years to realize my place in his heart.”

Qin Mu smiled at her, feeling no waves in her heart as she spoke.

”But you were childhood sweethearts! And Jian Yan and I...”

Xiao Wei, lacking confidence, lowered her head again, biting her lip, and didn’t continue.

”In love, time spent together and age don’t matter, have you forgotten? The feeling of being together forever without knowing what’s truly in his heart, that’s actually a kind of luck! Ever since I was young, I admired him but didn’t dare confess, watched him be pursued by other girls, saw other women drink with him, saw so many women confess to him, saw him lead other girls in front of me to provoke me. But Jian Yan wouldn’t do those childish things, right?”

Mu Yichen stood on the stairs in his pajamas, hands in pockets, quietly listening to his wife calling him childish. At first, he felt a bit upset hearing those words, but afterward, he was incredibly calm because, indeed, those days were quite childish. So he just stood quietly on the stairs.

Xiao Wei didn’t say anything further, just sat quietly next to Qin Mu.

”We’re not waiting for Jian Yan to come back now; we’re waiting for the baby’s arrival!”

Qin Mu gently placed her hand on Xiao Wei’s raised belly, speaking softly.

Xiao Wei also looked at her belly; as soon as Qin Mu’s hand touched it, the baby gave a couple of kicks, bringing smiles of joy to both women.

——

Mu Yichen didn’t go downstairs, and when Qin Mu returned to the room, she didn’t see him on the bed. Turning her head, she saw he was standing against the wall. Puzzled, she blinked at him, a bit flustered, but still tried to speak: ”Well, tonight I have to sleep with the pregnant woman!”
